  1. The herald writers are apparently under a different assumption then as the question was asked in the weekly chat last week if UND actually had to pick a new nickname or not and they said no but they believe the school will to try to bring in more $$$. The school has to move on but fans of the Fighting Sioux don't and there will be plenty who never will and even when there is a new nickname much of the fanbase will refer to the teams either still as the Fighting Sioux or UND.
  2. College hockey athletes at any university drink alcohol but evidently at UND people really like to turn them in and punish them for some reason. A lot of times at other places people might turn a blind eye to this kind of thing and let it go because these guys are athletes and they wouldn't want to cause any problems for the athletic teams instead at UND we have people who want to turn them in and think they can make a name for themselves by turning athletes in because they are athletes.
  3. Former UNO defenseman Nick Seeler is transferring to Minnesota, would think he will have to sit out this season.
  4. Can't link it right now but saw in the Herald this morning that Trevor Olson and Cam Johnson were cited for underage drinking August 23rd.
  5. Garrett Wait of Edina just committed to Minnesota. Had heard there was a strong chance that he would end up there but was still hoping that Hak would somehow be able to land him.
  6. I agree with you on Olson and Simonson and really think Olson could step right into the Rodwell role with Pattyn and Gaarder and maybe even add a little more offense to that spot. I think Poganski will have a learning curve to deal with but with his raw talent and skill I think he will definitely get a good chance to stick in the lineup. With the increased depth I could see OD or Chyzk having a tough time getting into and staying in the lineup at times. Right now I'm thinking that Ausmus and Poolman will probably rotate in and out similar to what Ausmus and Thompson did for most of the season last year.
  7. Zane tweeted out a pic of his new helmet design if anyone wants to get a look at that. Zane Gothberg @ZanoInsano_29 · Aug 15 New helmet for the upcoming season. Concept design came from Patrick Roy's old Candians themed helmet… http://instagram.com/p/ruR_wgF5gH/
  8. Maverick Hockey ‏@UNO_Hockey 1h Defenseman Nick Seeler leaves Maverick hockey. http://OMavs.com. http://www.omavs.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=795013&SPID=135111&DB_LANG=C&ATCLID=209607634&DB_OEM_ID=31400 …
  9. I said nothing about UND football in my post and I follow the football program casually. Sioux hockey is #1 for me but as for other sports like football, basketball, baseball, etc I am a Gopher fan first and foremost so I'm pretty sure they have racked up some FBS wins over the years.
  10. A win over Penn State who finished 7-5 has no value? The Gopher football program is on the rise and these aren't the same type of teams that NDSU was fortunate enough to defeat.
  11. Not a big fan of people doing that but if you look at the twitter page of a BCS type recruit you will see plenty of it. I believe it is supposed to be some type of NCAA violation but fans of every BCS team do it and I don't think I've ever seen a program penalized for it, most recruits love that kind of attention.
  12. The simplest reason is because its a Big Ten school. UND and NDSU won't win many if any recruiting battles with Big Ten schools. Like I said if he gets more big time offers like a Nebraska or something that may change things but as of now I believe Minnesota is the only big time program to offer him.
  13. Ryan Burns @RyanBurnsGI · 14h #Minnesota @CoachPatPoore just offered Fargo (N.D.) South running back James Johannesson (@TheRealJJ4) after a great camp last Saturday. Would think Minnesota now becomes the favorite to land Johannesson. It sounds as though he also had a good camp at Nebraska and if he gets that offer it could change things.
  14. Should have beat them last year but they will be a lot tougher this year. Their star player Banham didn't play against UND last year and they have added a couple nice pieces in a graduate transfer and a freshman who basically rewrote the record books for MN high school basketball. They should be a tourney team and a pretty good test to see where UND stacks up this season.
  15. I believe the Vikes open up camp in Mankato on Friday.
  16. Looks very similar to the Ralph especially the players lounge.
  17. Niskanen to Washington for 7 years $40.25 million!
  18. Chicago reportedly signing Brad Richards to a 1 year $2 million deal and I'd think another move would have to be coming from them considering they're already over the cap. An already tough central division has gotten even tougher this off-season with the moves that have been made by those teams so far.
  19. After watching Moulson with the Wild it just didn't seem like he fit well with the and I didn't want him back unless it was at a pretty good discount. A little surprised and confused to see Iginla get a 3 year $16 million deal from Colorado as he just doesn't seem to fit with the type of team they had last year and have been building the past few years.
  20. Why? I think it is a real good move as it really helps adding another goal scorer and they didn't tie themselves up long term to him. I know Buffalo had to spend a lot of money just to get to the cap floor but 5 years $25 million and a no trade clause for Moulson and 3 years $4.5 million seemed like a lot for a 4th liner like McCormick.
  21. Think that is a good move for him just seemed like he was never a fit with Columbus.
  22. Wild get Vanek on 3 year $19.5 million deal that includes a no trade clause. Vanek reportedly turned down more money and years from others to join the Wild.
  23. A lot of money being tossed around early on. The Blues land Stastny with a 4 year $28 million deal. Edmonton seems to just be giving money to whoever will take it with a 5 year $20 million deal with Beniot Pouliot and a 4 year $14 million deal with Mark Fayne. Former Sioux Brad Malone should have a good chance to be an NHL regular as he signed a year deal with Carolina.
  24. The Wild beat writer Michael Russo wrote in his latest article that the Wild aren't going to make an offer to Niskanen. I think they wanted him on a shorter term like 3 years and he can easily get a 6 or 7 year contract from someone. Russo mentioned Tampa Bay and Washington as destinations that make sense and I think Detroit has him pretty high on their list as well.
  25. My guess is Vanek and Willie Mitchell to Minnesota and that Niskanen will get the biggest deal of all the free agents.
