  1. It had been speculated before on here but Schlossman just tweeted that Charlie Pelnik is no longer committed to UND which is probably best for both sides. Brad E. Schlossman ‏@SchlossmanGF 10m10 minutes ago Cowichan Capitals say that D Charlie Pelnik is no longer committed to UND. He was one of UND's youngest commits at age 15.
  2. We have seen some media predictions for the NCHC this year but how about some fan predictions, mine are: 1.North Dakota 2.St.Cloud State 3.Miami 4.Duluth 5.Western Michigan 6.Denver 7.Colorado College 8.Omaha Rookie of the year:Nick Schmaltz(UND) Defenseman of the year:Jordan Schmaltz(UND) Goalie of the year:Zane McIntyre(UND) Player of the year:Jonny Brodzinski(SCSU) Coach of the year:Dave Hakstol(UND)
  3. Omaha lost their exhibition last night 4-0 to NAIT. I know it is only an exhibition but Minnesota played this team and beat them 5-0 it could be a long year for Omaha.
  4. With the chemistry Caggiula and Schmaltz had last night I would be very surprised to see them split up and I like having the two most talented forwards on the team on the same line.
  5. Looks like he is a defenseman and has played for Grand Rapids bantam AA the last couple years. He was drafted in the USHL futures draft by Dubuque.
  6. I thought Sanderson was decent brought some speed and seemed to be around the puck quite a bit when he was on the ice. I was a little surprised at Poganski's quickness for his size and thought he was decent along the wall. Also looked like he wasn't afraid to go to the net but I'd like to see him play a little more physical and think that will come as he gets stronger. I thought the MacMillan line created some good chances in the first period controlling the puck in the offensive zone but after that didn't create all that much but I'm not too worried about those guys.
  7. I think Poolman will be the odd man out Friday night but wouldn't be surprised to see him Saturday for somebody. As for the forwards I'd guess we see pretty much the same lineup as tonight but with St.Clair replacing Sanderson for Friday.
  8. Some thoughts after 1 exhibition game: -Nick Schmaltz is as good as advertised probably the best hands since Oshie and really seems to have some great chemistry with Caggiula -There will be competition for the 5th/6th D spot all year but I liked the physical game that Ausmus brought tonight and hope we see a lot of him this season -Love the way the d-men aren't afraid to jump up in the play and the offensive threats we have on the back end -Overall team speed seems to be very good maybe the best it has been in a while -He didn't have a whole lot of tough stops but Zane looked like he picked up where he left off last year and Johnson looks to be the backup at least for now and was solid in his 1 period of work -I liked the increase movement on the powerplay and think that could be a big area of improvement this year -I think there are probably 8 forward spots locked up(MacMillan,Parks,OD,Caggiula,Schmaltz,Johnson,Pattyn,Gaarder) and the other 4 spots will be a consistent battle but I liked the way Chyzk, Murphy, and Poganski played tonight.
  9. I know it is only 1 game but Schmaltz brought a lot of things tonight that Grimaldi never did. Schmaltz seems to have a lot more hockey sense and is much better at waiting that extra split second for things to open up rather than trying to force something. The only thing that Grimaldi has over Schmaltz is he is a little bit quicker skater.
  10. IMO yes and it isn't all that close.
  11. Jensen robs Nick Schmaltz again and has made some real nice saves since he has come in keeping the game a lot closer than it probably should be.
  12. J.Schmaltz from N.Schmaltz and Mattson on the 4 on 3 powerplay.
  13. You get an idea just how good Nick Schmaltz's hands are with a catch and move like that.
  14. The top 2 lines have looked pretty solid so far and definitely skilled. One thing that stood out to me in the first period was the team speed it seems like at least a few guys have gained a couple steps since the end of last season.
  15. It is on Midco but will not be televised on FCS as they are still working on a deal.
  16. That was my first thought with Olson sitting as well and I believe Hak has used this as a punishment in the past as well.
  17. A little surprised to not see Olson or Simonson in there and to see Sanderson in but I kinda wonder if part of the reason Olson isn't in is a little punishment for the drinking citation. Also an interesting defensive pairing of Thompson and Panzarella together.
  18. Wow must have been some great defense being played in that one.
  19. #8 UCLA lost to Utah so when the weekend of college football was done 5 of the top 8 in the AP poll lost and 11 teams in the top 25 lost.
  20. Nebraska throws an interception Michigan State will hold on.
  21. Total meltdown by Sparty to even let this get close and they came very close to giving up a TD on that last play.
  22. Arizona State wins on a Hail Mary over USC so by the AP poll #2 Oregon, #3 Alabama, #4 Oklahoma, #6 Texas A&M, #14 Stanford, #15 LSU, #16 USC, #17 Wisconsin, and #18 BYU have all lost this week while #19 Nebraska is losing to #10 Michigan State in the 4th and #8 UCLA trails Utah 14-0 in the 2nd quarter at home so we could end up seeing 11 teams in the top 25 lose this week.
  23. Florida State will probably be #1 in both polls already were #1 in the AP poll.
  24. Yeah this is what many figured to be the top 2 lines but it will be interesting to see who the other 2 are tomorrow and who doesn't play. I'm still thinking Pattyn-Gaarder-Olson and Simonson-St.Clair-Poganski while Chyzk and Murphy are the ones who end up being out but there are a lot of different combos Hak could put together with these 8.
