With how inexact of a science recruiting is, I wouldn't call it irrelevant. It will definitely be a less heralded class when they sign, doesn't mean that the players won't develop into more than quality players.
-
You are really avoiding answering why YSU deserved to be in the playoffs.
-
I was referring to seedings for playoffs. And since this one game was obviously the measuring stick for the Big Sky as a whole, it still doesn't explain how giving up less yards and playing SDSU much closer than YSU did means NAU shouldn't have been in the playoffs but YSU should have.
-
YSU (one of the teams that was "left out" of the playoffs) lost to SDSU 42-13 in Youngstown the last week of the season but yet the Big Sky is terrible and overrated because their 3rd or 4th team in lost 26-7 to very next week to the same SDSU team while playing without their head coach? Not sure what NAU did in the 2nd half (wasn't able to watch), but I'm not buying the conference strength/weakness correlation from this game.
-
You know what is embarrassing? Blowing a 27 point lead late in the 3rd by giving up 40 unanswered points. Do you think by beating NAU and then ripping on the Big Sky as a whole, it makes that epic choke job sting a little less?
-
Hitting the sauce a little hard during the game or what? I was only able to watch the first half so I have no clue why NAU came apart in the second half. Has Sumner played an average game this year? The games I've seen of his seem to all be not real great, which makes me think that his "average" isn't all that good. We heard how he was going to come in and carve up UND's defense at the beginning of the year and when the coach's put the ball in his hands, it almost cost SDSU the game.
-
Interesting. Would think that decision would be up to the new coach but makes sense for the short term for sure.
-
Not arguing that. Pointing out there are issues with comments Pelini has made adding some off field issues as well. Not a comparable situation to Hak.

When Hak starts talking in the media like Pelini does, then you have a valid comparison.

UND vs Cal Poly (Oregon Tourney Day 1, 11/29)
jdub27 replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Using history as an indicator, I guess we can count on another second half collapse by Saul's team then? And how do you figure that Santa Clara is much better than Cal Poly? Both teams are 1-3. UND played flat out terrible yesterday against a good defensive team. Edit: Santa Clara was picked to finish 8th out of 10 in the West Coach and Cal Poly was picked to finish 3rd out of 9 in the Big West. West Coast is a stronger conference, but Santa Clara is no where near the class of that conference. So again, not sure what you're using to come up with Santa Clara being much better than Cal Poly. -
Y'all got a real infatuation with UND. What's your prediction on yardage and points put up by NAU on a vaunted MVFC defense this afternoon?

UND vs Cal Poly (Oregon Tourney Day 1, 11/29)

So Santa Clara was NDSU's super bowl then? They clearly overlooked UND. Or was Western Michigan since they overlooked Saint Mary's and SMU? -
Would give them a chance to even the overall series which currently sits at 1-0 in favor of UND.

UND vs Cal Poly (Oregon Tourney Day 1, 11/29)
jdub27 replied to SWSiouxMN's topic in Men's Basketball
Box score only says 11 minutes, but it sounded like Hobaugh was out there quite a bit tonight, maybe it was just more towards the end. Looking at the box score, minutes were spread pretty evenly between 12 guys. Jones tried about everything he could. Hopefully just one of those nights where things don't go right. I wouldn't be surprised to see teams throw more zone defense at UND until they show they can handle it. -
The Herald's list has 5-6 additional names.
-
He was the first to put out the list but the Herald has been requesting the list as well. Tweets from Tom Miller indicated that Marshall's application hadn't been submitted when they had got their list the day before McFeely put his out. Wayne Nelson just put out an article from the Herald as with a few additional names on it and some additional commentary. A couple of the interesting new names include: -Michael Kelly, former head coach of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL. -Robert Ianello, wide receivers coach/recruiting coordinator at University of Kansas of the Big 12. He was also the interim head coach at Notre Dame in 2009.
-
While I only follow him occasionally, it seems when he does comment, they seem made more to rile up one fan base or another. Or maybe I just happen to catch his comments at the wrong time?
-
First sentence: UND is no more "spoiled" than what goes on down in Fargo. Tom Miller was very critical of the football team this year. There has been multiple instances of Caillou not reporting on something that has appeared in "other" sections of the Fargo Forum. Both schools get pretty favorable treatment from their hometown paper, as is the case almost everywhere. Second sentence: Agree, McFeely is not an NDSU lackey, he is critical of their program as well. In fact I don't even know if Bohl will do interviews with him anymore (or at least quit for a while). His schtick is to have the unpopular opinion. Do you think he really cares who gets hired as UND's next football coach? Or do you think he knew that by publishing the list first, he would get a bunch of page clicks. And making comments along the lines of "who would even want the job anyway" just furthers his agenda of stirring the pot. The Herald had requested the list the day before and is making new requests often. The Athletic Department is fully aware that this was going to happen and was prepared for it. My guess is it was related to his comments he made, not the posting of the list itself. Again, he's just trying to generate page clicks for himself. How often does he actually comment on UND athletics?
-
Maurice Dayton has also applied per McFeely. Currently the secondary coach at Southern Miss, spent the previous two years at Coastal Carolina as the assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach. Coached special teams and defensive backs at South Carolina State prior to that.
-
I'd guess he has a short list of candidates that he is hoping apply or that he knew would apply, probably similar to something he has for almost all sports. I'm sure other qualified candidates that also apply will get a strong look as well. Faison is a smart guy, someone won't get overlooked just because he didn't think they would apply or he hadn't thought of them previously.

No worries, it is well known that Revisionist History is a core requirement at FU.
-
The Herald is also filing the same open record requests. They had filed one recently but the Montana assistant coach hadn't applied yet. McFeely just happened to release the list he had.
-
Maybe sooner....

Not to let facts get in the way, but here' are the last 5 years tournament seedings (since NDSU has been eligible). 2013 - SDSU - 13 and Montana - 13 2012 - SDSU - 14 and Montana - 13 2011 - Oakland - 13 and UNC - 15 2010 - Oakland - 14 and Montana - 14 2009 - NDSU - 14 and Portland State - 13 The Big Sky has been higher twice, the Summit once and the same twice. And Oakland isn't in the league anymore.
