  1. Either way, Bubba stated the OC was going to have significant input into the hiring of the OL (and now WR coach). I'm not sure why you'd be up in arms about a "hand-picked" candidate. That's how pretty much how hiring an assistant coach goes. They will still get applicants that don't have previous connections with but guessing when you're job is on the line, you're going to go with someone you feel you can put your trust in rather than a completely unknown commodity.

    2018 Season

I'm being realistic with getting him the ball on the plays that were actually called (with that being a separate argument that we agree on). McKinney getting the ball on a jet sweep was effective pretty much all year yet we didn't run it a single time against PSU. The frustrating thing is there were quite a few of the plays that everyone was clamoring for being called against NAU (play-action, screens, TE passes) but it didn't matter since NAU was in the backfield the whole game.
  3. While I'm not sure why it's not posted, you can lay off the conspiracy theories. There are various state hiring laws that have to be followed. If I had to guess, Danny has a few people in mind and he's in contact with them, feeling out their interest. Once he has an idea who might be interested, the postings will made and tailored to make sure those people are qualified to apply.
  4. Likely adding 2 more. Can't go wrong with 3 early home games for tailgating.

    2018 Season

Not saying I disagree, particularly a jet sweep or two against PSU, but he was 5th on the team in touches behind Brady, John, JJ and Wanzek.
  6. Agree on the D2 game, just being selfish for an extra week to tailgate likely early in the season. Possible on the budget thing, but you're basically paying $100K in 2019 for a free home game in a future year instead of paying at least 1.5x in a later year to get a home game. Like I said, I get the reasoning they are using, just don't personally agree with it. I just hope we aren't sitting at 6-5 at the end of the year wishing we would have had one extra D-1 win to add to the win column.
  7. I get their reasoning, I just don't agree with it, especially with the upcoming schedule. Getting another OOC D1 game that is winnable could mean quite a bit come selection time.
  8. I'd take both to have an extra home game next season. First choice of course would be the away half of a home/home with a decent team to set up a return home game in the future. Still dumbfounded they are pretty much set on 11 games instead of 12 next season.
  9. Mentioned by @geaux_sioux (possibly as a quasi-joke), but I actually wouldn't be surprised to see this name come up. https://rmucolonials.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1094&path=football
  10. Wonder what Jody is in Nashville for....
  11. So the OC gets no credit when they are getting those 5+ yards a carry, only when they don't? Guess I"m not following that logic. Obviously the ability to not do it at the end of the year cost him his job but the OL and run game were both working well the first half of the year. Don't know what the underlying issues are as the season went on, but the guys who's job it was to figure it out and fix it, couldn't and are looking for new jobs. Plenty of blame to go around in the ISU game, especially when the defense gives up 597 yards. If UND doesn't fumble into the end zone in the first half, that game ends differently.
  12. Take a look at the actual stats. The offense's identity was the running game and that was working well (and those numbers don't adjust for QB sacks that are included in rush yards). It didn't start to go off the rails until Weber and never recovered. MVSU - 518 yards, 6.5 yards/play (293 rushing, 5.9/carry) UW - 301 yards, 4.6 yards/play (182 rushing, 5.5/carry) SHSU - 376 yards, 5.1 yards/play (187 rushing, 4.2/carry) ISU - 469 yards, 6.0 yards/play (245 rushing, 6.1/carry) UNC - 474 yards, 6.2 yards/play (351 rushing, 5.8/carry) UM - 536 yards, 6.9 yards/play (282 rushing, 5.3/carry) SSU. - 604 yards, 8.8 yards/play (480 rushing, 9.1/carry) Weber - 321 yards, 5.6 yards/play (105 rushing, 3.8/carry) Idaho - 335 yards, 4.3 yards/play (172 rushing, 3.7/carry) PSU - 222 yards, 4.0 yards/play (122 rushing, 3.1/carry) NAU - 192 yards, 2.7 yards/play (83 rushing, 2.0/carry)
  13. Significantly different than forcing a change or doing something Bubba was against. Of course it was discussed with Chaves, no one has claimed anything different and I don't think a coach is going to let people go without discussing it with his boss. But there was no ultimatum or taking the choice out of the head coach's hand and forcing him into something. Hell, the offense was actually running pretty well through the Sac St game and then cracks started to appear against Weber, who is a good defensive team. Despite some issues, not sure how anyone could have really argued for a change until after Idaho at the earliest and that was when they were shorthanded and still on a path to the playoffs. For the record, I fully support the changes made and were the exact ones I predicted when the season ended.
  14. Yeah, this narrative isn't accurate. The call was Bubba's, the AD isn't micromanaging the staff of his head coaches, he's letting them own their decisions.
  15. I don't disagree but since you want to get into detail about the game situation, then you need to take into account the odds off UND actually converting those 2 yards with how the game had been going to that point and how the defense had been playing. The O-line was being pushed backwards the whole game and the QB/RB were being met by multiple defenders in the backfield pretty much every snap. I'm not saying I agree with the decision to punt (I would have used whatever 2 point conversion play they probably had in their back pocket) but I also see why the coach had zero confidence in actually converting on it and opted to punt considering NAU had 1 first down in their last 8 possessions.
  16. Right or wrong, when you feel like your defense has a better chance of scoring than your offense, sometimes it is OK to punt. That issue has hopefully been addressed. UND attempted 14 4th down conversions this year, I'm thinking the conversion rate of 36% is why he opted to punt more than some care for.
  17. Yes. Bubba said the OC will have considerable input on the hiring of OL (and presumably now the WR coach). Will be interesting to see what names come up.
  18. 3 years experience coaching WR's and currently on staff at D1 Robert Morris. Not unrealistic at this point...
  19. Or they can use their redshirt year to sit out if they want to transfer. Double edge sword.
  20. Quickly has become one of my favorite sports to watch in person. Non-stop action. Helps that we've been above average for the most part.
  21. Looking at that honestly and given the estimated salary, which on that list do you think is actually realistic? If you can get an FBS position coach, they will have to come from a G5 school and that's a stretch. Experience in play calling will likely be questionable but still might see one or two. Unlikely to pull an FCS coordinator. Position coach is more likely here and will be a chunk of the pool Might be able to find some DII coaches that are making less and willing to move up. Getting some young DII coordinators is probably the sweet spot and very plausible. Just want to set some realistic expectations on what the candidate pool might look like. I could be completely wrong, but that's how I see it. Doesn't mean there won't be good candidates, just means it might not be the pool some expect.
  22. It's a tough to sell WR recruits on playing for a run-first offense? Wanzek was a diamond in the rough and I'm pretty confident Maag was an absolute steal is and is going to be an absolute monster the next few years, you know, assuming they can get him the ball.
  23. Exactly. He has 3 years left on his contract, which means he probably 2 years to show some tangible, consistent success or he's out of a job. I don't think he's taking this hire lightly.
  24. I voted and paid for a Wellness Center that I have never stepped foot in. Everyone was aware of the cost and build out time but there was support because it was a betterment for future UND students. No different than this project.
  25. How about 2001-2006, which is how long he was OC there? Bubba specifically cited how tough his offenses were to play against for one of the reasons he was hired. Again, it didn't translate for whatever reason, but it was the experienced, outside blood that you seem to be pushing for. Didn't have D-1 experience, but unless you're looking to move a position coach from a D1 school to your OC, it probably isn't going to happen (and there is a candidate that fits that bill already on staff). Regardless, I'm starting to get the the feeling that you aren't going to be happy regardless of who gets the position.
