Well we've already seen how unique we became with the monitor pegging us as RedHawks per Brad's blog.
-
Would like to see a secondary logo with the wings on the right incorporated into Hawks as the "W". I think they want a few different logos, so that could go on t-shirts and the main logo on jerseys.
-
Probably not, it makes too much sense to do something like this to appease the ruffled feathers. Very much like the concept and effort put into this. A tweak here and there and you might actually have something "unique" in the world of bird nicknames. The problem with concepts like these is that it tends to get hopes up, that will ultimately be dashed by the "people in charge".
-
It would be interesting if they could incorporate a hawk as the "W" in Hawks on a jersey.

I wasn't questioning his intelligence, nor do I think they should be doing that with the hockey players, although there is a big difference between book smarts and common sense. (See the actions of Kelley for confirmation of that). I just find it funny that the poster was questioning intelligence based on what they say, or don't say about a nickname.
-
So Ausmus should have fell in line with the Common Man mantra -- "Fighting Hawks is a great name. Best name in all of college sports. It will give us the same pride of culture that Sioux did!"? They are just as disappointed as most fans, only they didn't go off like most fans did. They just said it wasn't their choice, just like Kelley and others like Dave St. Peter did.

There are plenty of hockey players that have given back to the University. And supporting the hockey program in turn supports the University as well. There are a lot of alumni that wouldn't be nearly as interested in the University after they left campus if they weren't able to keep an identity with the University. For many that is the hockey team. Maybe they can hire a consultant to let us know how much of an impact that is. Much rather support the sporting programs than some of the academic elite that got us where we are today, and others that have given the University a bad name with their disgusting criminal behavior.
-
A few people give their opinion without ripping into the selection and you question their intelligence. Maybe I should question the intelligence of the football player that was on the committee. What is it about the definition of "unique" that he and the committee don't understand. I thought that was self explanatory Say what you want about how UND hockey ties itself to the Sioux nickname and culture more than other teams, but it seems to have worked much better for them than it has for the other programs, and they are playing at the top level of competition.

Kind of like the old Al Gore philosophy of do what I say, not what I do type of scenario. We want you to follow this criteria, but we'll do what we want as far as advancing any of these.
-
So basically you have come to accept the name and things remain the same for you.
-
To top this all off, the radio guy commenting on the press conference said it is the name he wanted because we kept the "Fighting" and he liked some of the logos he saw online.
-
It is what is it. At some point we will all be defending it, especially to those varmint lovers to the south. It still makes me laugh that they can make fun of any nickname when they are a rodent a level below the gerbil, and one that is meant to be exterminated.

Patrick plays for Brandon close to home, but at one point he said his dream was to play for the Sioux. Just goes to show how things can change.

http://www.tsn.ca/get-to-know-them-patrick-liljegren-in-2017-1.389307 Would have been nice to get James Patrick's nephew, but maybe they can get Tolvanen who is projected 5th for 2017, to go with Mismash at 13th.

Yeah, and Illinois took the Bison lightly to begin with and then took over when they realized they could lose the game. If they start out hard, they blow the bison out.
-
No doubt they all have some pretty good skill. Just saying unless you are really elite, it might be better to hold off on projecting someone until they have faced stiffer competition because let's face it, UND can get a lot of recruits that develop later because of their name in the college hockey world and facilities. Cakebread produced early on in his USHL career, but not so much later. Even though I understand why, most people have written off Cakebread, and he is even younger than Bowen. I will always be in favor of having a little flexibility to bring in the late developing player, transfer, or mind changers, like Gaudreau, Pecararo, or Conway, even though I don't always like the circumstances involved in them "changing their mind".
-
Dixon Bowen isn't exactly lighting up the scoreboard in that league, and he is older than Cakebread. That said, some guys are going to be more role players both in the BCHL and at the next level. That is what I expect Bowen will be. Remember after the Minnesota High School Hockey tournament a year or so ago how many were imploring the coaches to sign three or four players from EGF? Dominating at the High School level is far different from the BCHL and even more so the USHL. I think the coaches are wise to hold off in a lot of cases because there are a lot of good players that become available that develop later. Tucker Poolman and Johnny Simonson come to mind.
-
He should be able to gauge interest by all the home games this year. I would say whatever we got last home game, add 1000 fans to that.
-
It makes it a lot easier to bid when you can actually get enough fans for the bid to be borderline break even.
-
Wouldn't that be a perfect scenario for most of the people here that don't think any of the choices are good? We can go down this path for a few years, then start fresh when the protests come. Next time don't have PC representatives on the committee, and maybe we can narrow it down from the start with the stakeholders, with only unique names.

I overheard a girl in the Sioux Shop at the game last night pointing to a jersey and saying with delight "next year there is going to be a little birdie on this". Then she asked her boyfriend if he was going to vote and he said no. She said you have to vote. Would certainly be interesting to see all the demographics when all is said and done.
-
I just don't think that many more people will vote. Most are far beyond nickname fatigue, and the only way Hawks gets ousted is twofold, needing almost all Nodak supporters and a lot more voters this time around.
-
Yeah, out of all else that went on, I was really impressed with that line. While JJ hasn't scored yet, I like how he uses his speed. He also seems to be very responsible defensively. It seemed like they played more than Simonson, Gersich and Wilkie, or maybe I just noticed them more.
-
I think the North Texas logo is a lot nicer than this one.

I said he was being disingenuous with his rant on Teddy Roosevelt, and it turns out he was.
