  1. Rather than Nodaks as an option they should have just taken the stance “We are Nodak”, then they could have created the logo suggested and/or use Nodak on the jerseys. To me, that would have been unique because how many teams are referred to by one thing. Kind of like many people referring to Ohio State as “The Ohio State” rather than Buckeyes.
  2. I think they didn’t want that because by default they would be referred to by the old nickname.
  3. To that end, for Nodak, you could get input from many of the cultural groups that make up North Dakota and create a spoked logo encompassing the elements those groups feel are representative of their culture.
  4. I agree with this wholeheartedly, so maybe the committee should have put up Hawks as a sacrificial name that could be changed after a few years when the faithful saw how bad a nickname could be. Of course you would always have those that would never let go, but you would get some to accept a better, unique name with something synonymous with the state of North Dakota. If you could come up with a multi cultural logo for Nodak, that would demonstrate the state’s Scandinavian, Native American and other ethnical backgrounds, it would encompass all the groups that make up the population. It could show a pride in the region rather than a negative perception of a state considered flyover country. “Let’s play Nodak hockey” would mean something because it would be tied to the hardworking groups tied to the state that work together to make the state unique.
  5. Still mad at the committee that didn’t even adhere to their own criteria. In what world is Hawks unique?
  6. What Broten was here?
  7. That, and you would think he would be looking to round out his two-way game. Don’t think of PSU as a team that is known for that.
  8. Schlossman said that Denver was going to defer him another year.
  9. We definitely will see early whether there is a major change if we keep hearing how they need to be ready to play. I prefer to think they got in more players that are known for their work ethic and that the new coach will sit them if they don’t adhere to that ethic. The nice thing about all the depth they are obtaining is that he can do that without fear of skill drop off. I for one am anxious to see these new studs, but just as much what guys like Menghini and Gordon add. Very excited about Menghini, as we have seen him and his ethic with Duluth.
  10. I’m guessing no. Being 17, he will have a huge learning curve. Besides, you have two guys that have an offensive leaning. Guessing they might put Zmolek with one of them to let them use their abilities with him being a super solid defender. Could have both of them on the power play I would think.
  11. You know when we make significant progress because you will again see the hate for the coach by our rivals. Didn’t see that much with Berry. Already see some expressing displeasure that they have to watch UND playing with a bunch of Canadians. What will they say if Saskatchewan and Alberta join the U.S. Seriously, they can’t make up their mind if they hate the overage teams more or those with Canadians. Now they are whining about 17 and 18 year old Canadians? I would say their delusion means they are concerned we will be a force in college hockey again. Come on Chyzyk, bring in Carter Bear to drive them closer to the edge.
  12. We need those guys that play an extra year of juniors to offset the guys that might only be a year or two. Need to keep the classes halfway balanced.
  13. Need guys that grow and stay 4 years too though. Don’t want too many one or two years and done, or we might end up without the hardware like other blue bloods. Is nice to have our name in the conversation with elite players though. We needed that just to reestablish the North Dakota brand. The next step is proving it on the ice though, getting back to our work ethic.
  14. Could come down to who is responsible both ways. Probably be some rotation as well until they get a feel for who can handle different roles, and their learning curve.
  15. We got our CHL guy, and a huge bonus beyond that. Can’t wait to see the next surprise. Once again a new coaching staff has injected excitement and hope into a UND program. Hopefully this reverses the apathy that took over the program.
  16. Carter, yeah that would be nice if the eligibility issue could be resolved.
  17. No, you’re right, we’re getting at least 2, and way better than decent!
  18. If this indeed comes to fruition, I really like the blend of our lineup next year with the veterans, the transfer players and the incoming recruits. If Jackson can get the guys playing the brand of hockey he wants, it could be a lot better year than people expected. Hopefully there are still some surprises to come.
  19. It's one thing to say I don't think UND will land any high end CHL talent, it is another to say matter-of-factly it isn't happening. Obviously I am glad the coaches aren't so defeatist.
  20. Smugness absolutely deserves a little crow!
  21. The Wild obviously thought he had some talent. Not everyone gets drafted.
  22. You no doubt would have a problem telling Wes Rydell his house would need to be sacrificed. By the time the water came, and we saw what it was really going to do, it was too late. Remember, the forecasts were completely wrong on how high it would get. You can only depend on the information you are getting at the time, but of course Mr. Hindsight has the answer to everything -- after the fact.
  23. To that point, could that be the very reason we got Will Zellers? I know he decommitted after BU recruited another top draft pick candidate.
  24. If you look at the box score, J. Christ finished the hat trick with the overtime winner for Muskegon. Too bad we didn’t recruit him, as if he can walk on water, no doubt he would be great skating on it!
  25. Yeah, and for the longest time schools bit the costs of traveling to Alaska just to keep them viable. In the age of NIL and big money, I don't see NCHC schools wanting to spend extra money on expensive travel for a team that could be a drain on the league in more than one way.
