  1. Seems like a simple three component process to me. 1) If the Big Sky doesn't sponsor it, there is no need for North Dakota to offer it, save for mens hockey of course. Goodbye Women's hockey, and M&W Swimming & Diving. 2) If the Big Sky doesn't require it, there is no need for North Dakota to offer it. Goodbye Soccer and Softball. 3) Fully fund every scholarship in all women's sports to address Title IX concerns. If that still falls short, then you look at keeping Soccer and/or Softball.
  2. Well here is how I feel about the whole conference affiliation thing. I am a life long resident of North Dakota that is pushing 40 years old. I've spent the majority of my life watching UND piss pound all three of NDSU, SDSU, and USD in more than one sport. I appreciate the challenge and the "unknown" that the Big Sky offers. The fact that the MVFC has been dominated by NDSU & SDSU since they joined tells me all I need to know about the "quality competition" offered by the other members of that league. Seriously, SDSU sucked for 100 consecutive years until they joined that conference........ And if you ask me, being in the Summit for the rest of our sports would be even more intolerable than being stuck in the MVFC for only football.......
  3. But aren't there only like 10-15 teams in the whole nation? Drop women's hockey, its awful to watch and a terrible investment. Get rid of swimming and diving and men's golf too. The athletic department would be far better off.
  4. The thing is, UND doesn't need them to do any favors regarding league membership. We have a league. A great league with great members. A far superior conference to the Summit/MVFC.
  5. Hypothetically speaking, how many of those games would you come to the Sioux Center for? There are 10 DI games on this year's schedule, which ones are you planning on being at? The program could use your dollars just as much as your "input".........
  6. Don't know much about the kid and I don't follow recruiting for any sport very closely at all. But I am pleased that UND apparently got one of the top in state recruits. IMO, UND should always make a serious effort to get at least one of the top North Dakota kids to come here every single year.
  7. I have always said I would like to see names on the backs of jerseys. Makes it easier for the casual fans to identify with players. If I had a nickel for every time a neighboring fan asked me "which one is Santiago/Hardin/Rattell/Treanbeth/Anderson/Grossman/Hendrickson/Dressler/etc...." I'd be a wealthy guy. At the very least I think the road unis should have the player names on the back......
  8. Unless the football team loses a game because of this logo, I am fine with it being on the helmets.......... So ready for the season to start.......
  9. I like to say THANK YOU to the UND Athletic Department and to REA Inc. for getting together and footing the bill for this much needed upgrade to the basketball arena. It looks great to me......
  10. I think Idaho already tried it and now they are in the Big Sky.....
  11. Forget about adding sports. There are several others that should be cut. Baseball and golf are a good start.
  12. UND BASEBALL: UND opens the door to try and save program Does this have any real chance of succeeding? UND is much better off long term without baseball IMO............
  13. Don't get me started on Mayville State and Valley City State. What of substance do either of these schools offer that aren't offered at UND and NDSU which are just an hour away?
  14. Am I way off base to say that we may have an embarrassment of riches at the RB position?
  15. Mine is terrible too
  16. Bottom line is baseball should have been cut years ago. Women's hockey should be next. Whether or not the state of ND is flush with cash, or running a deficit and demanding cuts, UND is better off without these sports.
  17. I am not a "big time" donor, nor am I a former athlete. So I suspect my "access" is the same as any other average Alum/Champions Club Member. In the 7 or 8 years he's been here, I've probably emailed him half a dozen times, and he's replied to every one of them within a day. One time he even sent me a hand written note when I voiced my concerns over the direction of the football program. I've sat next to him on a football charter and shaken hands with him at a basketball game. Pretty confident he wouldn't know who I was if I ran into him tomorrow, but in my experiences with him his communication skills are just fine. My biggest complaint about Faison is how long he's left the men's basketball program fall into the pits. But with all the budget cutting going on by the higher ups above him, maybe that is why Brian Jones appears to be finding himself in the rare circumstance of entering a season with only one year remaining on his contract? As just some rube on a message board though, I am not 100% sure how to quantify great qualities of an AD, but I would point out that Faison handled the break up of the WCHA about as well as could possibly be expected, he got UND into the Big Sky (which rejected multiple other former NCC members), he got the High Performance Center built, he's raised the football budget to be competitive within the Big Sky, he's overseen a national championship in hockey. Seems like he hasn't completely run this place into the ground.................... His predecessors biggest accomplishment was doing 50+ push-ups on the sidelines at football games. Did that make Buning a great communicator?
  18. I commend Faison for this. Baseball should have been dropped 8 years ago. I know I sound harsh, but no amount of "fundraising" put on by the Thome family would ever come close to stopping the bleeding within the athletic department that sponsoring baseball caused.......

    2016 Season

I believe this is the last season of the ROOT Sports contract. The thing that irritates me about the deal is that they were originally supposed to cover men's basketball games too, up to 12 games per year, plus the conference tournament semis. Would be nice to have a TV partner that would cover the basketball tourney.
  20. IMO, it is a horse a piece between WDAY or KFGO as to who the Fargo affiliate is. Both are heritage stations with big signals that have a lot of listeners. I don't think UND sports are ever going to be a big talker on locally hosted Fargo talk shows, simply because they are Fargo based with mostly Fargo listeners, hence all the Bison talk. Radio FM Media must have put out major coin to get the rights away from KFGO. Seems like a major downgrade to me as far as listener-ship and signal quality, but as someone else said this is largely mitigated by online options these days. KFGO will continue to talk Bison, just like WDAY has ever since they lost the contract, but I think it will be significantly less. Personally, I prefer WDAY to KFGO as our affiliate simply because of the way they treated UND in the last round, tearing up our agreement halfway through the deal to get NDSU. Plus, I appreciate that WDAY airs the Coache's Show and also airs basketball & volleyball games from time to time. KFGO never did that and they have way more stations to work with. As far as a larger talk-show presence for UND, the best place to start IMO would be to come to an agreement with KNOX in Grand Forks and make them the flagship. They are the only talk station in GF, and they don't talk much UND sports because it would basically be advertising for their competition. They have an awesome sports guy in Ryan Cunningham who would do a great job and love to talk and be involved with UND sports I am sure. Other than the coaches show, the only local UND radio talk happens between 6 and 7 AM on Tim & Swyg right after they read the GF Herald over the air and right before they discuss Swyg's lawn issues. Even as little talk UND gets in Fargo, it is honestly not much more in Grand Forks, because they keep making Clear Channel the flagship and they really have no talk presence at all.
  21. Weber is a 15 seed, will play #2 Xavier in St Louis.....
  22. As someone who has been very critical of Jones the last few seasons, I give him a ton credit for this season. Given how far into the ground he ran this program last season, the turnaround this year is quite remarkable. The problem is, I still feel that a season like this one is pretty much the ceiling under Jones. It would be quite difficult to fire him considering how the team performed this year. But I also don't feel this year's efforts warrants an extension. I would like to see Faison make him play out the final year of his contract and see how next season goes. IMO, UND has already been extremely patient with him during his time here. There is not a single other DI school that is going to offer him a head coaching position. Show more improvement next year and earn a long term extension.
  23. Again I ask, did Avants foul out? Because Avants makes layups......
  24. And I should also add that Senglin was unbelievable.
  25. Game lost by missed free throws and missed lay ups.......
