  1. I hear what you are saying but Women's hockey, and women's sports in general will never take off. The only reason that half of the womens college sports exist is due to the equal opportunity laws governing college sports. The only reason pro leagues like the WNBA exist is because the NBA forces NBC to carry the womens games as part of the deal to get the men's games. You can't force people to watch something they don't want to watch. Whether right or wrong, the only reason that women's sports get any recognition at all is the "yea baby" factor (Anna Kournikova, the Olympic curling team that put out the suggestive calendar, scantily clad women beach volleyball players, etc)
  2. Actually, guys like Pat O'Leary and Marc Ranfranz would argue with you about guys never getting kicked to the curb in D1 college hockey. Others leave UND on their own when they realize that somewhere else may be better for them (Alexander, Possein, Yurecko, Byuglein, etc). Maybe Finley would do better in a different situation where he could better utilize his size, like joining a basketball team. (..........drum rim shot in background)
  3. At the same point in their careers, I would take where Matt Greene was at versus where Joe Finley is at now. You may be right about the fights, or lack of fights, but Matt Greene would take a guys head off if he came across the blue line with his head down. Sure he would take the occasional elbow penalty because of it, but it was intimidating. Finley doesn't seem to have this same fire. Being 6'7" and 250, this is what he MUST do since he obviously is not out there for his offense. UND already has enough Dmen that stand around in front of Lamourex playing patty cake with opposing forwards. Knock those opposing forwards on their butts Finley!
  4. You're right. I would be really scared of the way he just stares down people that he is mad at. I mean the guy has been in zero real fights since coming to UND so for all we know, he could be a total wussy. Actually, all I would have to do is dress up in a Badger uniform. That way I wouldn't have to worry about him hitting me.
  5. If they don't care about puttin a quality product onto the ice until March, I guess there is no reason for people to fill that arena Oct through Feb. That system has worked in the past but this year it will be even harder to pull off. If the Sioux think that they will get an at large bid they are crazy. The NCAA made a statement when they screwed the football team in playoff seeding. The NCAA will do everything in it's power to deny the Sioux a playoff spot unless the Sioux have a "wow" record. That is not going to happen.
  6. He was selected to the National Team the same way that certain guys win the Gold Glove Award in baseball. They have one good year (In Lee's case it was good high school years), and keep winning the awards later on name recognition they built that one year. Goal 1 last night: Lee's brilliant finesse style of play could not move a Badger guy out from in front of the net. Goal 4 last night: Rather than cream the guy in front of the net, Lee elects to go wtih the finesse style again. Goal Badgers.

    Lee

Dmen are supposed to take care of the defensive side of the house first and foremost, any offense is a bonus. It doesn't matter if you average one or two points a game if your turnovers/misplays lead to one or two goals going into your own net.

    Lee

When a team drafts a guy 9th overall, they need him to be a standout, not just a solid player. Lee has a long way to go before he should be mentioned in the same breath as Matt Carle. It may possibly happen in the future, but not right now. On the other hand, I think that the Oilers got a steal getting Chorney with the 36th overall pick. If I could only pick one of the current Sioux Dmen to come back next year it would be Chorney. The guy is just solid and he doesn't seem prone to turnovers and indecision like Finley or Lee.

    Lee

My bad, although I still ask the question, happy with him as a 9th pick?

    Lee

Question #2: Are the Senators happy with his progression, or lack there of it, as a number 6 overall pick. Lee is a good college player but has done nothing so far to indicate that he was worthy of that pick. Obviously things can change but I can't imagine him getting a chance to leave after this year.
  11. Central seems to have a down year talent wise but Bina is a solid coach that will not allow the team to be less than middle of the pack.
  12. Is the West down this year? Central is pretty clearly the 4th best team in the East right now and they handled Minot 4-1? Or is Minot not the team to beat in the West this year?
  13. I actually respect the job that Hakstol has done getting the team deep into the playoffs two years in a row. The problem is that I don't get to see those road games in person. The home games I do get to see. One of these years the old "let's turn it up in February and March" isn't going to work. Win the games you should early in the year and you give yourself some breathing room later on. Plus, this team better wow people with their record or get an auto-bid because the NCAA will not pick UND for the National Tourney unless they absolutely have to. Just look at the hose job the football team got in seeding.
  14. Agreed. Also, playing at home is supposed to be an advantage. This team seems to stumble alot at home. Must be chasing too much tail around campus.
  15. Good point.
  16. Yeah, I guess I can see how three days notice isn't enough notice when it takes all of 8 hours to drive to Omaha. Some local stations televise city bowling tournaments of all things and WDAZ is too cheap to pick up a playoff football game.
  17. That's odd, most of the WDAZ sports broadcasts that I see look like they were grab n go type productions. It's not like WDAZ has 15 different camera angles like on Monday Night Football.
  18. Even Rich couldn't screw up with unbelievable talent like Guldseth. Maybe they should start playing the entire Men's BB games at halftime of the women's games that way they wouldn't have to worry about all of the fans leaving?
  19. U of MARY BESC 7 p.m. MAYVILLE STATE BESC 4 p.m. BEMIDJI STATE BESC 7 p.m. DICKINSON STATE BESC 8 p.m. at Mary Bismarck, N.D. 7 p.m. MINOT STATE BESC 7 p.m. at Bemidji State Remember when UND would win these games by 30 points? Now they will be lucky to go .500 during this upcoming stretch of games. UND has a long way to go to get to where NDSU Men's team is at. Let's see, NDSU is competing closely with Texas Tech, Minnesota, and beat Wisc. Meanwhile, UND is losing to Moorhead and Concordia St Paul. Where is another Scott Guldseth when you need him?
  20. The dreams of an undefeated season come crashing down.
  21. I would have been there in support of UND protesting against the protesters, but I had to work.
  22. And the Gophers copied the old Minot High hockey jerseys, so what?
  23. If the women's hockey team was converted to men's basketball, maybe we could beat Minot State and Bemidji State.
