  1. Being able to tie your shoelaces without drooling all over yourself first. Seriously, I don't think that most coaches (the same coaches that vote for Mr. Hockey) care about GPA. Almost every team has those one or two players that the team depends on but are as dumb as a box of rocks. Funny thing is that most coaches always find a "way" to keep those players eligible.
  2. Go Magi? Please, that team is already starting to get that tickle in their throat in anticipation of choking again in the first round of state next year.
  3. And I suppose that when RR beat Fargo Shanley 16-0 in the Regionals, "the better team did not win". Seriously, Williston should be commended for a great effort, but you can't get 11 shots on goal in 51 minutes of hockey and be the "better" team.
  4. RR fans/players/alumni should feel privileged to have you as a spokesman.
  5. Or if Grafton hadn't had a bullsh*t penalty called on them with one minute left in a semifinal game maybe things would be different too.
  6. How good can the kid be if he couldn't get his team to state playing in the west?
  7. Note to Coach Dean Wilson: Take your pompous a$$ and your rent a player, and go I-29 south ASAP.
  8. Don't be fooled. The gap is huge. If they do put up 4 or 5 in a period, it will just reinforce that point. Bismarck Century benefits from the fact that South is basically already looking ahead to the Championship matchup with RR. Century can only make a close game of it if South is looking ahead (which appears to be happening somewhat). However, the talent gap is huge.
  9. Better not put him on the third line, he might quit.
  10. I have often wondered that too. They have the $300,000 house with a three stall garage. In that garage, you have brand new Yukons and Navigators. Probably a new boat too. Then there is still money for trips, eating out all the time, etc. Alot of times, the wife doesn't have to work in these wealthy families. If someone is making an honest living or making good investments. good for them, they have earned it, that is America. That being said, something tells me though that inheritance and increasingly credit card debt must be playing a role.
  11. The economics of raising children these days is way different than it used to be. These days, most families need the mother and father to hold down full time jobs just to pay living expenses. Given this situation, any kids need to have child care ($500 a month each?). This adds up quick. This doesn't even begin to figure in college expenses
  12. Tony had an extremely tough job this year. Any coach would have a rough time if his star player decided to be a quitter a couple games into the season. Hats off to Tony for trying to make the best out of a bad situation. The JV Central team seemed to do okay this year so maybe a little help is on the way.
  13. Please read again. In addition to numbers, I cite additional reasons why his career was a disappointment. If you don't score, you should fill a role or provide some intangibles. Did he play on PK? No. Did he take important faceoffs? No. Did he get under the skin of the other team? No. Was he the team tough guy? No. With the exception of about the last 10 games or so of his career, was he known as a defensive stopper? No. I don't remember him ever being a Captain either. Need more of a foundation? His career was a disappointment. It happens.
  14. Pretty weak examples. Fabian is built about like Massen was and doesn't have anymore skill, HOWEVER Fabian's non-stop work ethic has earned him a spot on the penalty kill. I don't remember Massen playing a single shift on the PK. McMahon was superb defensively and a very skilled face-off man. I don't recall Massen taking many must have face-offs at the end of games. Prpich was the agitator and tough guy (when needed). I don't recall Massen filling either of these roles. Comparing Massen to the defensmen is ridiculous since as far as I know, Massen never played a shift at Dman while at UND. Massen was brought in to score. He for the most part didn't. He might be a nice guy, maybe things went on behind the scenes that we don't know about, but the bottom line is, he had plenty of icetime while at UND, and was still a bust, plain and simple. Numbers aren't everything, but in this case I think they are a fairly accurate representation of a career.
  15. Oh yeah, I remember now, that was the guy that went 2g 5a 7pts in 39g that year. Pure domination. My bad.
  16. It is still a longshot, but Central could hardly have asked for a bette scenario to go to state, playing West Fargo and Devils Lake (more than likely).
  17. Current stats as of today: Keith Ballard 47gp, 4g, 12a, 16pts, -1 Travis Roche 34gp, 5g, 9a, 14pts, +8 Comments?
  18. Massen? Was that the guy whose picture was put on a milk carton rather than in the media guide during his 4 years at UND?
  19. Porter kind of reminds me of Brad Defauw. Big, strong, hustle, but not necessarily a ton of points. The only difference being that Defauw somehow found his way into being drafted first round (not his fault). Porter is what he is, a solid to good college player that probably will find a spot in the AHL
  20. Wouldn't Wahpeton do better if they just picked the fattest kid in the school, strapped goalie pads on him, and made him lay down in the crease? Then they could teach the football team how to skate, clump them around the net, and just have them hack and push the opposition around as much as possible? Sure they would play the entire game down 5x3, but playing 5x5 hasn't exactly panned out for them over the last......ohhhhhhh say 50 years?
  21. Going from men's hockey coach to women's hockey coach would be equivalent to trading in your Cadillac for a Hyundai. Yes, they both are cars, but one of them provides a much higher level of enjoyment/entertainment.
  22. Clash of the Titans! Seriously, you would think that Wahpeton would have a decent team once every 15 or 20 years just by pure chance.
  23. I like Chief Packett's quote in the Herald, "It was a confidential meeting." Yeh right, like he was there giving power play pointers to the team.
  24. One has to wonder who ratted these guys out. It seems odd that Grand Forks PD would be doing a "spot check" of Judy's Tavern on a Sunday night.
  25. Not that it really matters since these were minor offenses, but nothing is ever truly off your record. The court gets rid of records but the PD or Sheriff's office will always have a record of it. Just a FYI in case you ever apply for any jobs where a background check is needed.
