  1. Minny NIL kept Snuggerud, our's isn't quite up to speed yet
  2. This seems the appropriate thread, after the federal injunction yesterday its practically college program malpractice toward its athletes to not embrace every NIL collective conceivable. Embrace it or become a farm team in short order. This is largely a football issue, luckily our fanbase rules hockey so this should actually helps us
  3. It’s definitely not NIL, there is a cap, and for hockey fans the team will see only a fraction of the $. It won’t compete with Michigan’s NIL for the top players but it’s a very good thing and it helps, well done UND. I’ll set up a revolving donation. The article put the worst possible slant on charitable collectives, but the big ones like Ohio State’s are run very well and will comply with IRS rules. I donate and never planned to deduct. The Texas collective already has a disclaimer about deductibility Since there’s little interest in a UND collective our players will need to do it on their own. Players with a lot of social media followers should monetize it. There’s a lot of businesses that would pay UND hockey players monthly, including car leases, for various forms of advertising—social media, billboards, …
  4. I ran this through the pretentious gobeltygook filter. Do I need to explain the blindingly flawed logic here.
  5. I’ve never seen a buyout that wasn’t backed by booster money.
  6. Oh it can be fixed, and in a big way. The same Big advantages working against us now can be emulated logarithmically at UND, and make us a monster program. We, as in the fans, boosters, and administration, have to demand excellence.
  7. This isn’t directed at you but this shows how far behind many are in understanding nil. From a non profit standpoint, caveman days billboards cost me $900/mo. What is a local star player’s 10-50k engaged social media followers worth? Answer, whatever the market bears. If someone Is paying a kid 1M to sell air then they will answer to the IRS at deduction time. So I have zero concerns about “laundering”. Regarding charitable collectives, they are run by BODs well known to the community and are open to IRS audits and have IRS rules, such as the pay must be in line with services. That’s regulation by current laws if a UND charitable collective asks a highly visible, marketable enrolled athlete to raise awareness for Anne Carlsen, Development Homes, or Community Foundation via events, appearances, fundraisers, social media etc, is that worth $10-50k? Yep. Can they openly say they will only work with UND athletes? Yes they can. Can the school help athletes be aware of nil opportunities? Again, yes, and they should. Not complicated, It’s just business. If I had a semi-local business I’d advertise via my favorite player’s instagram, but instead I’d gladly contribute $400/month to a charitable collective. A kid could afford to be in college and I’d be doing good work. Most collectives allow you to ACH as low as $20/month tax deductible. Now multiply that by thousands, focus it toward hockey, and we are in business
  8. LOL, the NCAA will save us, you are two years behind. For the millionth time, the NCAA is powerless, the Supreme Court > NCAA. Without facing facts and UND getting on board we are the Big 10’s farm team.
  9. This locomotive has been easy to see coming for 3 years and now we seem surprised it ran us over . I don’t think we care enough to use the resources of the biggest and most rabid fan base in the country so welcome to wine and cheese hockey
  10. Part of being the man for the job is being the man to take a hard look at his staff. On the surface it looks as though we have person or persons performing roles they were never, and aren’t, qualified for. We might also have some qualified people who’ve become comfortable. All pro programs (that’s what this is) are either taking a constant hard look or they are getting worse. There’s lots of mid level programs with country club coaching and structure, and wine and cheese fanbases. But there’s almost zero winning programs where most involved are comfortable and safe, and the fan base is highly tolerant. I think coach can win if he really wants to, systems and technology probably haven’t passed him by, so it’s a matter of priorities and resources. He needs more resources but what’s the point if he isn’t maximizing the ones he has.
  11. Every word if this is true. The HC’s prime directive is recruiting, in addition, every resource available to the program should be at the coach’s disposal for that purpose. Every assistant coach should be hired for his ability to recruit. And yes, culture is also an important recruiting tool if used properly.
  12. To be fair, at an elite program it’s not unreasonable for fans to expect high quality succession at every position.
  13. Makes sense this will be next. What’s surprising is it hasn’t happened already
  14. I would like to think it’s not as much about “buying” the talent but providing them with a clear understanding that they will be “coached up” and develop during their time here. It’s both, first they want proven tools to reach the NHL. Second they want a living income It’s not so much directly buying talent in UND’s case for obvious reasons Instead follow the lead of other programs where local businesses pay market price to advertise on the player’s social media. The player of course should consult with an nil firm, CPA, and school about taxes and scholarships, the things other schools facilitate Not complicated but attracts the the best recruits, and can help some of the best current players afford to stay another year.
  15. Well, culture is a key piece of the puzzle if it’s things like brotherhood, not letting your brothers down, hard work, and excellence
  16. To win you only want guys who want the NHL, no one else need apply. They will play for whoever provides the path. Tuscaloosa’s population is 101,000, their players aren’t from Alabama, but they own NCAA FB; that’s exactly what GF can and should be. The school, town, fans, alumni, boosters, businesses, AD, and every staff person have to be all-in, coordinated, and laser focused on championships. Then we can talk about the coach. The AD is the CEO of all that Winning takes resources and lord knows there are UND boosters and fans with resources available to an AD who cultivates them and uses them wisely Our AD cashes the checks but he’s shown no vision, no passion, no ability to lead, and frankly no clue. He is NOT the man for this program. He’d serve better somewhere focusing on the wine and cheese sports We need a HC who knows what needs done, and is given the power and resources to do it. Maybe it’s BB, maybe not. Putting together and running that machine isn’t for everyone.
  17. A kid from Burnaby can afford to live in Denver, Grand Forks not so much. We are in the stone age Cut and past from the Pioneer website, click the links Denver announced partnerships with INFLCR and The Brandr Group to help set student-athletes up for success in the NIL era. In March, Denver expanded its partnership with INFLCR, launching "The Pioneer Exchange", which serves as a central marketplace for NIL information, education, opportunities and reporting.
  18. We should get used to that, both those teams have concisely written nil policies, UND does not. NDSU has a concise policy, UND does not. We won’t keep our best and we won’t get the best. NDSU https://www.scribd.com/document/513854314/North-Dakota-State-NIL UM https://s3.amazonaws.com/gophersports.com/documents/2021/6/30/Name_Image_Likeness_University_of_Minnesota_Athletics_Policy.pdf UND, somewhere around page 166 it lists lots of things athletes can’t do https://s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/sidearm.nextgen.sites/undsports.com/documents/2023/1/12/Athletics_Department_Policy_and_Procedures_7.1.21.pdf
  19. car dealers typically advertise on the athlete’s social media in exchange for a termed lease on a very nice car. The kid gets a nice ride for a year and the dealership gets its car back. Additionally the dealer often comes out ahead via sales.
  20. No downside. Kids get to play hockey and fans get to drink beer. Opt out or not, somebody gets ice time.
  21. As someone who hasn’t lived in ND for decades and has paid minimal attention to BSU, I have no idea the nature of that relationship. Anyone kind enough to explain it?
  22. My apologies for bringing this up again, I’m also not sure this is the correct thread, but the AD for Ohio State sent out this tweet asking alumni to support 3 NIL’s. I assume our AD is still supporting buggy whips. https://twitter.com/GriffinStrom3/status/1600891520772493317?t=3dnQ1P2R_FmZ8FlbMNJ3NQ&s=19
