I just said "reality." Forgive me, but I'm going to go all Augustinian on y'all for a minute. St. Augustine, in the Summa, he sums up TRUTH as "conformity of mind and reality." In logical truth, the mind is conformed (meaning in agreement or alignment) with things outside the mind, either in assenting to what is or in denying what is not. Its opposite is error. The UND nickname today is "Fighting Hawks". That is reality. If your mind aligns with this you know truth. If not, as Augustine would posit, it is in error. If you don't like this, take it up with Augustine. People have tried for a millennia.

First, Iowa's Herky Hawk ... ah, yuck. No birds with teeth. I wonder if part of a mascot they'll comment or make recommendations on the current logo. Or if they'll set the stage for a secondary logo. I'd like to see some things done with the hawk head and the word marks (North Dakota), or even the outline of the state, like they did for Iowa.

The old nickname and logo have become anachronism, something that is not in its correct historical or chronological time, something that belongs to an earlier time. That is reality. You may freely choose to be anachronism as well, or be in the present.

Listen to the Wilson/ZAR call. The first words from Pierre were, " ... ZAR was over stick handling ... ". Translating that from today's polite vernacular to old school: Keep your head up son, it's a man's game.

< looking to the sky and pondering > I wonder what would've happened if "no nickname" had been voted on and won, but with the firm, and enforced, caveat that the old logo/nickname gear was deemed offensive and could not be worn at any UND events. Basically, if "no nickname" happened and was strictly enforced (no defaulting back allowed).

I would go with, "When the Dallas Stars introduce their new head coach."

My only question: Who paid? My guess is there's a "sponsor logo" on each of those giveaways. And the sponsor picks up the bill for the trinkets. My guess as to the Saturday sponsor? Buffalo Wild Wings. (That wasn't too tough of a guess. )

I still say the NCAA system of "thoust shalt sponsor N sports to play at level X, or M to play at level Y, or < yadda yadda >" is a big part of the problem. Those additional sports aren't loss leaders (meaning there to get you in and then get your money); they are dead-red ink.

I guess some of us move through the stages (Kubler-Ross) more quickly than others. Or to take the newer (Bonanno) view, some stay stuck in chronic grief. Personally, I'm experiencing what Bonanno terms 'resilience', described by: “it is not that they don't grieve, or that they didn't care; far from it. Rather, they are able to put the pain aside when they need to and they continue to meet the demands of their life. They work, they take care of loved ones. They even laugh and experience moments of joy. They accept the loss, readjust their sense of what is, and move on.” I sincerely hope you find a way to work through this. If you don't it's going to continue to wear on you and affect daily life for you. And that's not life.

I'm wondering why they don't have the ND Hawks logo on the right bicep so it's facing forward and the mascot can do the ol' muscle beach show off the bicep and tat routine. Or is that too masculine. Here, let me show you where I'd put it on my right bicep.
