Dear any new Bakken Billionaires

Fetch

Recommended Posts

Grand Forks needs a AHL Hockey team http://theahl.com/ & a Junior Hockey team http://www.ushl.com/

We have the Fan base & Facility to support one

Maybe even a Pro Football team like this http://www.wyomingcavalry.com/ for our Alerus Center http://www.goifl.com/

Were tired of having to deal with Colleges & SBOHE & Politicians & Lawyers & private Monopolies & other assorted people who think they are educated & could screw up a two car parade

In fact if these Folks would of been around back in the Pioneer days they never would have found Western ND or ND for that matter

Tax supported sports will someday be a thing of the past

I know it's early to be thinking about boondoggle investments or weird Fun things to do with all that $$$ - your mostly just getting used to the Millionaire stuff but as you become Billionaires keep this in mind

Does this mean that you're not going to support UND any longer? Of course I won't trust your answer, but it might be interesting to see how far you'll push this envelope.

I don't think he ever supported UND in the first Place, just loves the nickname not the college .....

And those of you on the other side of this debate never supported the Fighting Sioux in the first place. You guys just love the college not the nickname.

See, that snotty argument works both ways. :p

Yeah. It's like, "which came first: the chicken or the egg?"

Oops, nevermind, the college definitely came first.

Close but not quite. I support the college regardless of the nickname. Unlike you I will always support the college. You apparently can only support what is secondary in the equation, the nickname. Unfortunately for you, one can survive without the other and you aren't going to like the answer to that one.

No, Fetch and DaveK are just having trouble moving through the stages of the Kubler-Ross theory. What's that?

Kubler-Ross's theory was originally based on the terminally ill, but she realised that the theory could be used for anyone experiencing a loss, ...

The Kubler-Ross model, commonly called the Five Stages of Grief and known by the DABDA acronym, is something that we all go through when we experience a deep emotional loss. I moved though that from 2000 to 2007. When the settlement agreement came, I moved to acceptance because resolution would come one way or another.

What is really sad is how many people on this forum have gone over to the PC side. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

We don't agree with the NCAA policy. We are not on the PC side. We are on the rational, logical, and educated side of those that realize the consequences of keeping the name. Everyone on this site loves the nickname and wanted to keep it. But not at the expense of killing the athletic department.

I know that this is more than you can comprehend, but there are more than the two sides you can see. I won't bother explaining it to you because it has already be done over and over and over again and whether it is by choice or chance, you just don't get it. I just want your assurance when the right thing is done to protect the University that you uphold your promise and not be a fan anymore. Find a new logo/nickname you like since that is what is of most importance to you.

Fetch might fit your diagnosis, but LakesDave is actually delusional. He shows it with almost every post on almost every topic. The nickname just brings out the worst of it.

I think that might be the hold-up with LakesDave.

On another thread he said he was going to become a fan of every team with a Native American nickname. Here's hoping that the Central Michigan Chippewa don't get mad at us for that.

You guys just love the college not the nickname.

Wow.

You know, even if UND officially retires the nickname, you could still to choose to continue to worship the abstract cartoon/moniker that you are so infatuated with. In fact, I'd guess you have so many North Dakota games recorded on DVD and VHS from the last 25 years that you could actually pop in hockey or football game each weekend during the winter and you can probably recreate entire seasons for the next decade or so................. you wouldn't even notice any change.

So, do that, light some candles and create an alter to the abstract cartoon/moniker, re-live the past, and let the University's athletes that actually contribute and shed their blood, sweat, and tears to this storied program continue to thrive.............

Without the nickname, they're still the same student athletes, in the same groups, in the same classes, in the same practices, in the same buildings, with the same coaches.

Without the college, the nickname is just a dead collection of letters and a picture on a hockey jersey hanging in your closet.

Wait! You mean student-athletes will still play in the Alerus, the Betty, and the Ralph? No way....will they also attend the University of North Dakota too?

So the name vote is No & we keep the name - then what ? I bet a yr or several yrs down the road it does not make that much difference

Now your short term memory is going. I already told you what happens next. First, it goes back to the Supreme Court. They are probably forced to make a decision, although it may have to go through District Court first. Most people think the law gets thrown out as unconstitutional. If not, the Legislature has the power to overturn the law and throw it out.

If by some bad fortune it ends up staying the program will slowly be choked. Recruits are already starting to avoid UND in many sports. That will continue and increase in all sports. Quality of play will get worse and teams will start losing more often. We don't know if the Big Sky will throw UND out or not, if they do the program goes down much more quickly. If the Big Sky throws UND out the football program is probably disbanded within 3-4 years. More and more schools will avoid playing UND in all sports. The hockey team will start to suffer as teams avoid playing them, starting with Minnesota and Wisconsin. It wouldn't be surprising if the other Big 10 schools and even East Coast schools also refuse to play UND. And the recruits will even start avoiding the UND hockey team. Oh, all the while attendance will continue to drop because the teams are losing, so the program may start losing money. The amount of damage will depend on how long it takes for sanity to return and people decide to retire the name. After that there will be a rebuilding process that will take longer than it takes to tear things down.

Pretty rosy future, isn't it Fetch? That's what your No vote gets. And you still think it's worth it just to keep a sports nickname.

Hogwash

your still just dreaming this stuff up

Fear mongering at it's worst

I can't help it if you live in some fantasy world where nothing bad happens to the magic Fighting Sioux. Dale Lennon stated that several football recruits that he was also recruiting told him that they would not consider UND because of the sanctions. Are you calling Dale Lennon a liar? If you are you are an even bigger fool than you appear on this board.

There are reports that almost every potential recruit this spring has brought up the issue. Other schools are going to use the issue. Athletes do not want to attend schools that are under sanctions because they are basically playing with 1 arm tied behind their back. If you were a talented athlete that was offered scholarships to 3 schools, 2 of them are not under sanctions and 1 school is under sanctions, what do you think the chances are you would choose the school that is under sanctions? Probably near zero.

What happens if you don't get talented athletes to join your team? You lose. So talented athletes will be scared away because of the sanctions, the teams will lose more often. Losing more means smaller crowds. Smaller crowds means less money. It's a pretty simple chain to follow. If you want to see what UND athletics will look like in 5 years just look at Alcorn State. The football team was 2-8 this year. Men's basketball was 10-22. Women's basketball was 14-20. That's what you aspire to Fetch. Won't you be proud? Of course you don't care about any of those sports. The equivalent hockey record will be about 15-25, so that will be the team you root for, except you'll probably quit paying attention to them since they'll be losing so often. That's quite a future you hope for.
