GeauxSioux
University of North Dakota pres asks respect for athletes "Some folks who have been strident opponents of the nickname say if we just get rid of the name, racism and insensitive behavior goes away," Kupchella told KNOX radio in Grand Forks. "Well, here's a case where a university did change its name 30 years ago and they're apparently having more problems that we ever had." Go get 'em Pres. UNDintheNHL
he did some crappy stupid things when i was there 04-06. just seemd like a dumb guy who only cared about the money his school recieved. im glad he is turning a new leaf and is starting to care abou things other than that. we called him "Kupcake" for a reason when i was there. not sure what the campus feels about him now, and its tough tryin to determine his effectiveness from 1600 miles away now, but no one really seemed to like him then. maybe he figured that out and turned things around. on another topic, one more specific to this thread......i cant believe some of the things that writer for the dartmouth review said. he doesnt even know anything outside of his little dartmouth community, and has no right to say that "the modern american doesnt say howdy", or however he said it.....he is wrong. lets all pay for him to get qa trip to texas and see what its like down there. what an idiot. HockeyMom
Kupchella wasn't someone that I thought would last very long at UND, and in 2001, I was ready for him to leave. I believe many people were excited for him to leave when he was a finalist for the Marshall job two years ago. When the NCAA listed North Dakota as one of the 18 'Hostile and Abusive' schools, I thought to myself- uh oh, what's he going to do now......and he surprized the living daylights out of me with his response to the NCAA. "Most of what I will be able to accomplish here has been accomplished." I have to disagree, Doc. It hadn't really even started when you said that. HockeyMom
I still think he should have asked Buning to offer to accept Dartmouth's forfeiture of the game It would probably be a better game if they put their women's team on the ice. Sioux-cia
I read the DS 'editorial' last night and was going to write a comment. But after considerable thought, I realized that sometimes stupid just can't be helped.

HeidiSioux62
I went to my nephew's mite game last night at the olympic arena and there were two little girls about 11 or 12 running around the rink yelling "Let's go Dartmouth" *clap* *clap* *clapclapclap* - Now I found this incredibly "hostile and abusive"

Let'sGoHawks!
Kupchella Letter to Dartmouth President That is quite a letter. Like someone said earlier, I like this guy more and more as time goes on. I'd like to see a response to that letter, but don't expect one. Sioux-cia
Kupchella Letter to Dartmouth President Great letter!! I especially like, 'Whatever her state of ignorance.....' farce poobah
Great letter!! I especially like, 'Whatever her state of ignorance.....' Kupchella is showing us he is a force to be reckoned with! As the case throughout, Kupchella articulates a firm position while giving the recipient a fair chance to change their mind. I'd like to see the higher-ups at Dartmouth get some education from UND. Well done, Mr President.
dumbpeoplesuk
Oh, really? Based on what study, poll, survey, etc.? I think this idiot is channeling "Dr. Stephanie". Why is it that any time an American Indian states a FACT, they have to provide the white guys with a study, poll, or (inconsistent) survey to back it up? Perhaps this woman is "channeling "Dr. Stephanie!"" I have a feeling she would be proud of that fact. Also, where is your poll, study or survey that backs up your calling this woman an "idiot." I suggest you and all the IDIOTS in this forum look in the mirror. There is no bravery, intelligence or other type of showing that supports talking about people in forums when they do not have the ability to defend themselves. I see it all the time in here. That is why I finally signed up to respond to some of this bogus poo you are all dealing out in here. I see sports fanatics just like you guys -- closed minded, simple, personally attacking statements, from people with their own agendas. It does no good, I realize, to even write this, as you will all call me an "idiot." Maybe, what is really on the tip of your tongues is ......"Indian Lover." So what? Why is it not ok to love Indians but it IS OK to love the white supremacy that is the overwhelming representing group in this here forum? I'd like to see the higher-ups at Dartmouth get some education from UND. Well done, Mr President. Horrible quote you mean. Where does Kupchella (aka KUPCAKE) get off trying to criticize a prestigious school like Dartmouth? He has tried to discredit his own graduate students before, so this idiotic statement does nothing for me, except prove just how blind North Dakota and its University System really is. What a load of garbage. I suggest NONE OF YOU have a clue!

I'd like to see the higher-ups at Dartmouth get some education from UND. Well done, Mr President. I also think that, when Kupchella was entertaining the idea to change the name based on tribal resolutions, he had a different take on things and may have, for once in his life, been thinking clearly. Each and everyone of you know darn well that, when he said he was considering it and "how can we ignore the tribes' requests?" was unacceptable to you and he, in your meager opinions, was NOT A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH during that time. DOUBLE STUPID STANDARDS ONCE AGAIN!@

Florida State University, whose teams are called the Seminoles, decided they had to have a secret meeting to determine an alternative team name in case politically correct pressures forced them to change the name. The university trustees met one afternoon and argued different choices half the night.
