Friedman confirmed on 32 thoughts that the Maple Leaf's have been in contact already with David Carle during their coaching search. Will be interesting to watch play out

ASU adds another older ex-pro after they added Beck last season.
He's already 23yo, so with the NCAA new rules, I'm assuming he only has 1 or 2 years of eligibility?
Played two full seasons in the Coast.  It's a weird new NCAA world, folks.

Technically he would be a junior this year (going by last years rules on pros/USports)

As good of a non-Schloss article about college hockey as I've read in a while. Normally when an NHL or NYT/Post/etc. journalist writes about college hockey there are a few things in it that aren't correct, but not the case here.

I'm not sure whether to have the ultimate respect for Carle or think he's the biggest idiot on the planet, lol.  On one hand, he's the best of the best, making a hell of a living doing what he loves, at a school he loves and his family must love it as well.

On the other hand, he's gotta work 10 years to make what he would in one (ballparking, based on a few sleuths) in the NHL.  So even if he went to the Leafs and it went south as hell after 2 years and got whacked, he's set and would get begged for any college job he wanted after that anyway.  

Boy its it good to be Carle at the moment.

The biggest problem with the NHL is they recycle coaches and dump them in two seasons if a season goes bad. Carle should talk to Hak about how it has gone for him. Toronto is a place with relentless media that will magnify every coaching decision he makes, but he has to take the job first. If Colorado or Utah were open, I see him going to those two teams.

In his defense time does have its own value. 
 

So the NHL team has to make the jump worth while and suit him so he doesn’t view it as wasting his own time. If he doesn’t get some portion of control of the roster making I think he views too much risk of it going wrong. (Then he has in fact wasted his time)

Until this year Hak was the most recent coach to help both the Flyers and the Kraken both make the playoffs. Tells ya something about the teams he was handed by his GMs haha (not counting the Covid flyers playoff year)

He overachieved with a dumpster fire of a team and when they actually played like the team that was built, they missed the playoffs. Toronto is a different animal than Philly and Seattle. 

Francis should have been fired after the expansion draft. The more I hear Shane Wright mentioned, I don't see why Seattle drafted him.

Hak got ripped for not playing Shane Wright early in his career, but he hasn’t exactly ripped it up since.  You have to wonder if what Seattle did to Colorado in the playoffs under Hak played a role in him getting an assistant job with Colorado.

Its hard to tell what he is thinking, but different people value different things.  Seems to me like he loves coaching college kids and living and Denver.  NHL coaching you either need to uproot your family and move, or leave the family.  Probably doesn't want to do either.  Can always try to coach in the NHL once the kids are graduated.

Tricky part is I think Chayka might be willing to sell Carle on giving him the roster control (But at the same time not sure I would trust Chayka to follow through haha)
