OK, now the next fun game. I don't think I've seen this, but if it's already in the thread, I apologize. But, who are the ones wearing letters?

My guesses:

Croal - C
Emery - A
Josephson - A
Reschny - A

Looks good.  Wonder if Swanson is another one with an “A” or possibly replace Josephson, although both are worthy.

Pretty much my exact prediction as well, but maybe swap Mac for Ollie.

Swanson and Verhoeff are easy honorable mentions lol. Would be completely fine with either of them.

Has the team ever had 5 players wearing a letter?

For sure. The 2015-2016 team had 6: Ausmus, Chyzyk, Stecher, LaDue, Caggiula, and St. Clair.

That’s way too many in my opinion. I wish they’d do it like the NHL where you just have one C and two As. Then again it sure worked out well in 2016 lol.

Looking at that group, though.... hard to leave any of those boys off the list if we had to do it again.

2016 😁

So you’re saying…!

2016 was a special year for a lot of reasons- hindsight there’s a reason the coaches supported & recognized so many captains, but I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time. Those players led that team and it’s no coincidence they won it all (and certainly made Berry’s transition look good).

Regardless of how the captain selection lands, or if they win at all this year, I love that Jax and staff are intentionally bringing in great leaders. How to keep the number reasonable is a great problem to have.

Ps, I’m a big fan of Croal but was a bit surprised he’s so many people‘s clear number one selection for captain. I know he’s a rare non-transfer upperclassman and captained Muskegon for a couple years, but I might’ve guessed someone like Reschny ahead of him. Any particular reason or inside info on why he stands out amongst the other proven leaders? Curious to learn more.

Let’s call that getting the worst part of the season out of the way. Smooth sailing from here on out

Article on Schloss from today, with coaching staff now getting some work in with the players:

https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/und-hockey-staff-getting-first-looks-at-the-team

Brock Schultz was injured over the summer but has been back fully participating in practices.
Swanson is getting closer too after his offseason shoulder surgery.

Quote

Junior forward Mac Swanson, who had offseason shoulder surgery, has been one of UND's best players this fall.

Swanson still hasn't been fully cleared for contact, but he's started to participate in all drills.

UND is hopeful he'll be ready for Game 1.

"Mac looks really good," Jackson said. "He looks fast, smart, competitive, ahead of the play. He looks like he's done an outstanding job on the rehab and conditioning. We're very happy with where Mac is at after having that big surgery."

And a couple other tidbits on bubbles and captains:

Quote
  • Last season was the first time in 10 years that a UND player wore a full visor instead of a cage on his helmet. In fact, two of them did — Ellis Rickwood and Will Zellers. Rickwood has graduated, but UND might have two wearing "bubbles" again. Freshman defenseman Ethan MacKenzie has been wearing one at practice.
  • UND hasn't voted for captains yet but is expected to do so as soon as this week.
