He's got a comment for everything. My favorite one was when they had a kid with diabetes that had a service dog with him that was trained to let the kid know when his blood sugar reached a dangerous level. The kid was a senior and it was getting towards the end of the year, and in true Ole form, "yeah that kid graduates this year.....man am I gonna miss the dog." 3 1 Quote

PHE Posted May 24 Posted May 24 This post isn't about 2067-27 HS hockey but rather several years earlier...I was looking at some old North Dakota high school athletic info from 1976-77 and noticed that there were co-champions in hockey. Apparently there were several OTs and they decided to name co-champs (Central and Red River, I believe). Anyone remember the details? Anyone attend the game? Anyone play in the game? 😀 Quote

Goalies absolutely stood on their heads. 8 overtime’s and they said that’s enough. Even made a mention in Sports Illustrated Quote

Even made a mention in Sports Illustrated I believe Neil Whalen, who was the goalie for Central is the father of Lindsay Whalen. I imagine being competitive, a lot of the players from each team wanted to keep playing, but in retrospect, it is, and will probably remain the most memorable state championship game because of circumstances which will probably never happen again. I’m sure it is a talking point if any of the guys from the opposing teams see each other. Quote
Brim006 Posted Thursday at 09:10 PM Posted Thursday at 09:10 PM What's the word on next year's lineups? Any big names confirmed leaving early yet? I've heard the same old normal rumblings of a handful of Century and Legacy kids leaving early but nothing catastrophic...yet. The names rumored so far are Frykman from CHS and Raschke from Legacy, and 2 others I can't remember. Anyone know about the GF, Minot or Fargo teams? I've heard Stromme from DL plans to stay for his SR season, and no others have been rumored to be leaving from there or GPR early as far as I know so far. All-State Returners only - listed below Bennet Benson Jr. West Fargo Sheyenne Nolan Marto So. Grand Forks Central Easton Richardson Jr. Bismarck High Weston Stromme Jr. Devils Lake Caden Ulmer Jr. Grand Forks Red River Logan Bina So. Grand Forks Central Braxton Burkett Jr. Jamestown Beau Raschke So. Bismarck Legacy Cruz Fitzpatrick So. West Fargo Sheyenne Luke Richeson So. Minot United Quote

How do they look next year with him returning? Would like to see them sneak into State one of these years. Pretty tough to do if they stay in the EDC. Quote

Maybe slightly better if they can stay healthy and don’t lose anyone early. 1 Quote
Johnny Five Posted Saturday at 11:48 AM Posted Saturday at 11:48 AM Frykman graduated from CHS but he's so young he can give Sioux Falls Power a run this year. Legacy is also allegedly losing McKay-Pressley, whom the SRs had to beg to play last season. Bismarck had a pretty good Bantam AA team last year (or maybe the state was down, I don't know) and a few of them are jumping ship before even playing a second of Varsity. Quote
Wilbur Posted Saturday at 11:44 PM Author Posted Saturday at 11:44 PM The 5 in 5 rule could be a mighty blow for high school hockey. Instead of kids sticking around and playing through their senior years they'll be pressed to make a decision on high school hockey vs. junior hockey. I'll use a kid like Benson from Sheyenne as an example as he lead the state in scoring. If that rule goes into place he'd have one full year of potential junior hockey after this year. His dad being the head coach he likely sticks around and plays before and after the year in Watertown where he is tendered, but after that he'd just have the one full year. ACHA teams may be licking their chops with this one as it doesn't apply to them at all. Stay tuned. Quote

Frozen4sioux Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I'm hearing there are roving semi trucks with Manitoba plates running around the Western North Dakota circuit collecting bantam players gear and family's cash and heading across the border to Pilot Mound. Sounds like they sent a couple trucks just to Bismarck. These type programs across Norh America are just preying on these kids... er... Dads.... with "fear" about the new 5 in 5 rule. Don't dare mention to these folks the 5in5 rule is a NCAA D1 rule... as the obvious reality is lost on them. Quote
