Hoping for a better result as we will be heading up to GF shortly for the game tonight What about our goaltending? I can’t recall which one of Duluth’s goals it was but the one where it appeared Homer might have been overly aggressive to the point of taking himself out of the play by overcommitting. Seems like he does that often and then he will make these ten bell saves because he got himself out of position to begin with. 2 Quote

Somebody tell him he is not Gaber, Blake, Parise, Towes, ect. KNOW YOUR ROLE! I agree he needs to clean it up, as do guys like Kaprizov with the Wild, but I don’t know if I would call him absolute trash anymore than I would say that of Kaprizov, as he has had his moments. People said the same thing about Blake 3x3, and he was the last guy back on many occasions when he tried to make that extra play. It’s hard to play totally responsible 3x3 because at some time there are going to be odd man rushes the other way, but it definitely was either hero or bust on that play. Let’s give Liv a little grace and hope he realizes he can still be aggressive and be a bit more responsible, especially since he was the first cornerstone in keeping some semblance of the team together after the coaching change. Could have really gone south without him or James coming back. 2 Quote

Same stuff now for a decade plus with this program. Look at last night....basically 3 guys got a W. 100% I think the problem this group has is the defensive risk you take with Swanson with Zellers and Reschny. I like Rickwood, but he's not skill wise what Reschny is. Once you get into games with Western and Denver that group will get pounded defensively. Unless you say screw it and you guys are a line we have to have to make us successful in the long run this year and next year etc. Duluth has gone all in with the Plantes and Shaugabay, maybe that is the way to go and you live with the growing pains. James-Rickwood-Kernan Swanson-Reschny-Zellers After the way he played last night I think Josephson is figuring life out. I'll hang up and listen.... 1 Quote

Kind of hard not to get out of position when they are allowing the Plante line to have lanes for their patented cross ice passes. 3 Quote

Popular Post Brett0909 Posted 22 hours ago Popular Post Posted 22 hours ago Obviously a tough loss. Couple bad decisions marred an otherwise learn and grow kinda game against a pretty good opponent. Jax tried to prepare us for this, but the early results made many of us forget it would be bumpy at first. Completely new PP and PK (coaches and systems). This showed. Every coach either new or playing a new role. Attempting to implement new expectations, culture, and systems to improve where they needed to from the last decade. Record setting turnover to new players and some tough losses from the core. All of the above makes for an almost total reset and rebuild…but Jax has them in the thick of it, vs. settling for multi-year rebuild. Showed some grit at the end to tie it up and flashes of pretty good play through the night. They recruited the players they need to have success, and they’ll grow into their roles. Faced their best opponent by far this year - didn’t have all the answers early but they were visibly settling in and improving as a team throughout the game and will be a better team for it. And they’re a top 10 team who got 45% of a NPI win against a 8-1 UMD team that no one’s had good answers playing, yet. Just my take…It was definitely frustrating at times, but the mistakes are addressable, the systems are getting closer to clicking, and the team’s in a good spot nationally if they can grind through some wins while continuing to build. Probably in as good of a spot as most of us would’ve hoped for right now, before the season. Now, let’s go out and win big tonight! 6 Quote
brucespook Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Hard to install new culture when your laziest forward of the night and arguably your worst defensive forward is placed in the 3x3. Let him take the face off then pull him 1 Quote

The mantra heading into the season seemed to be getting on our toes more and playing more aggressively. That’s definitely the case. Unfortunately, they’re not generating the expected offensive production and giving up far too many grade-A’s. Lots of stuff on film to work with so hopefully these guys learn appropriate timing as the season goes on. Aggressive mistakes feel better to me than passive mistakes. It’s just maddening at times. 1 Quote

He said something about UND always bringing in more players than they need. Are they supposed to run 2 lines like a peewee team? Ollie will likely be a top 6 center for UND in the future. Is he playing as much as he would in Red Deer? No. Everyone, including Ollie, knew he would be playing in the middle 6 when he committed. That “scout” is a major !@#$%!. 1 Quote

He’s not going to burn past defenders or create a ton on individual efforts. The beauty of his game is that he gets guys the puck in space and in scoring areas better than almost anyone (a lot like what Shaugabay does). If Swanson was playing with the Plantes, you’d see the same numbers out of him). He has shown his best chemistry with Zellers IMO ( when they get together on PP, 6 on 5, etc). I get you probably can’t put those two with Reschny and not be a defensive liability (at least this early), but I do think he needs to play with one of them to best use his skillset. 2 Quote
