hawksfan12 Posted Saturday at 03:23 AM Posted Saturday at 03:23 AM What are the bucket list college hockey roadtrips for all of you? A couple different dimensions: - Bluebloods: MN, WI, MI, BC, BU, Denver - Rivals: MN, Denver - Venues: Yost (MI), Kohl (WI), Mariucci (MN), Matthews (Northeastern), Compton (ND), Ingalis (Yale), Alfond (Maine) - Cool Cities: Madison (WI), Ann Arbor (MI), Boston (BC/ BU), Tempe (ASU), Duluth (UMD), Denver (DU) - Crowds: Western Michigan, MI, Maine, Cornell, Michigan Tech, Michigan State, Penn State, Minnesota In college hockey, it doesn't seem there are "clear" ones like in NFL (Lambeau) or MLB (Wrigley, Fenway). But wonder what places people wanna see or are worth seeing. 1 Quote
nodakvindy Posted Saturday at 05:13 AM Posted Saturday at 05:13 AM Matthews was a treat, glad I got there and it completed my Beanpot set. Hobey Baker rink at Princeton was an absolute treat, the Wrigley or Fenway of college hockey. Lynch at Cornell was also great. Yost was a bit of a disappointment. Trips id like to do are Alfond Arena in Orono, Lawson in Kalamazoo and Michigan Tech during winter carnival. The Clarkson st Lawrence combo is another that is of interest. 2 Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted Saturday at 06:09 AM Posted Saturday at 06:09 AM Air Force-Army in Springs is mine, if that ever overlaps with UND at CC I'll be there. Quote
atxsioux Posted Saturday at 02:38 PM Posted Saturday at 02:38 PM I think most of us know but if you are dying to get to Matthew’s arena you need to go within the next month or so (they’re demolishing it in December unfortunately, think it has some major structural issues going on) Quote

If you’re into that history aspect I think Matthew’s wins as the coolest spot. It’s hosted just about every event you can think of. I think it’s the oldest sporting arena in the US as well 1 Quote
farce poobah Posted Saturday at 03:01 PM Posted Saturday at 03:01 PM Been to Gutterson in Burlington VT. Quite reminiscent of the original Winter Sports Building at UND. Go in October. The fall colors are spectacular. Quote

I went October 2015 and it’s still my favorite hockey trip I have been on. 1 Quote

I saw the Hobey presentation there when Zane was in the final three. Eichel won it that year. Quote

I was underwhelmed by Yost, it's history isn't hockey related and I don't remember it having the best sightlines. Have heard Munn is similar to the old winter sports center so would like to get there for a game. Would love to see us schedule a series with the Spartans. Quote
Godsmack Posted Sunday at 06:27 PM Posted Sunday at 06:27 PM I got to Lawson Arena last year. It was a huge bucket list barn for me before they relocate to their new one. I saw UND play at Conte in the game that got called due to fog and then saw UND at Matthews Arena against Northeastern and that was such a treat. I’d love to see UND at Yost and Munn but likely will never happen because those teams would never return the favor. Quote

I swear Hak or Berry had a series out there. But I feel like the east coast has so many cool barns (Matthews, ivy schools). 1 Quote

Thanksgiving 2017 or so we played at Munn and pretty sure they came to the Ralph as well. Given that we have them as an opponent for a destination game it seems we have a good relationship with them, hopefully that remains during their resurgency. 1 Quote

We swept the Spartans that weekend. 1 Quote

SIOUXFAN97 Posted Sunday at 07:47 PM Posted Sunday at 07:47 PM what's the oldest collegiate hockey arena still used today? Quote

Does it have the modern amenities of a place like the Ralph? Absolutely not, which is probably why they’re building a new barn but the Lunatics were as advertised. I also walked around to where the Lunatics stand outside a few hours before the Friday game, wearing my UND jersey and BS’d with several of the kids. They hazed me when I was leaving but all in good natured fun. I visited with several Western fans inside as well during the games and they were all cool too. Fun seeing Livanavage and his OT cele near the student section when he scored, that was a lot of fun. 1 Quote

But not for much longer as they have a new arena that will be built as well. It's not just college hockey's oldest rink, it is the oldest multi-purpose athletic building in the world. Opened in 1910 and was a former home of both the Bruins and Celtics. You should have known @Godsmack, you were there! I was on that same trip also. We walked over to Fenway for Game 6 of the ALCS after the game vs Northeastern. 2 Quote
