sioux rube Posted December 13 Posted December 13 If Hughes signs an extension with the Wild then this may be a good deal. Even with that I’m still a bit speculative about it as I think Buium is going to be a star in this league. Time will tell Quote

Johnny Five Posted December 14 Posted December 14 I don't think there's any chance Billy pulls off this deal and let's Hughes walk in a year and a half. He's shown to be an aggressive GM. Gave up a haul, I agree, Buium will be a stud....Rossi, meh. IMO it's a great move by the Wild to get a high, high end defenseman. 1 Quote

The problem is if Hughes wants to play with his brothers, Guerin doesn’t have a say in letting him walk. I think it will all depend on whether the Wild show progress to a Stanley Cup run. A power play with Boldy, Kaprizov and Hughes could be devastating, but there are plenty of high end units that don’t perform to their talent level, and the Wild have already been living off of their power play. The reason the Wild struggled early this year even with a potent power play is because they weren’t playing to their defensive identity. The question is will this move do anything to change that identity, or just make it easier to maintain it by playing from the lead? Secondary scoring could still be an issue, but you saw how that changed when Zuccarello came back. I think it could be huge for them, but they surely need to make some postseason strides to show Hughes he should stay. Quote
Johnny Five Posted December 15 Posted December 15 Buium and Hughes both score in their debuts. Fun to watch Hughes with the Wild, paired with Faber. What an elite skating pair of D. Hughes was interviewed post game and stated how much he respected Billy G for sacking up and getting him, also how praised interactions with Billy from last year's 4 Nations experience. Have to believe they will find a way to make it work long-term. Quote

sioux rube Posted December 17 Posted December 17 Since acquiring Hughes the Wild beat the Bruins 6-2 and last night shutout the Caps 5-0. Last 23 games are now 18-3-2. I’m sure they will disappoint me come April or May but going to enjoy this for now Quote

Also third in the Central division. Should be a playoff team, but I don't think they're a Stanley cup contender as of now. Quote

Not sure if he’d be willing to trade either Gus or the Wall but if he did I’d think he’d get a pretty damn good center man for one of them. Would that be enough to contend? Be close but if the standings stay like they are they’d play Dallas and if they got by then then it would be more than likely the Avs. Don’t like their chances with that scenario Quote

I don't like that you can finish 3rd in the west and have to play the 2nd and 1st seed to get to the conference finals. Quote

sioux rube Posted Friday at 05:01 PM Posted Friday at 05:01 PM Since November 1st, the Wild have gone 17-3-2 for 36 points. During that same timeframe, they've only gained one (1) point on DAL (16-4-3) and actually lost a point to COL (17-1-3). That's crazy stuff. Quote
