southpaw Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago I'm not saying this is the case, but he could go to another ncaa school and still come here in 27, 28, or 29. Quote

He just doesn’t want to play junior hockey anymore I guess. It isn’t for everyone. Agree though…probably needs another year unless he’s purely a bottom 6 player. He’s not a pp guy on EDM even after playing two year NTDP. Quote

atxsioux Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago The bottom 6 is quite a log jamb so it was going to be pretty damn hard to slide him in to next year's class. The main openings are a top 6 center and top 6 winger. (Extras would be Brock, Klee, and Andrew) Mac (JR) Reschny Simpson Zellers Ollie Kernan Croal (JR) Menghini (SR) Littler (JR) Zakreski Quote

Losing Pilgrim and O’Neill so close together makes me think we recently picked up a silent commitment or two from some CHLers. Guessing our commits were told whether they’d be coming in this year or next and these decommits are a reaction to that Quote

Strathmann is a good example of someone who agreed to delay coming to UND; worked out fine for him & he's a Chicago boy. There are other examples. Could understand O'Neill not wanting to wait another year if he was committed to a place like Ferris St. or Bemidji, but if you're on target for a big-boy school like UND & your last name isn't Reschny or you're not burning out the scoring light, maybe best to wait until you're actually needed. In the era of the CHL, NCAA schools hold all the cards when it comes to when/if they bring in a mid-level recruit. He's an average-sized fish in a huge pond full of similar-sized fish & bigger. A guy who really wants to play at UND & bleeds green will have no issue going back another year if that's what's asked of him. The fact that he didn't want to wait *may* be a good indicator that he *may* not have been agreeable to other coaching decisions (ie, being healthy-scratched) once he arrived on campus. A good way to test a commit's loyalty before he dons a UND jersey is to see how patient he is. Besides, if no forwards leave early or enter the portal this year, there would only be 4 openings: Simpson, B. Schultz are locks; & the latest Sabres piece on A. Schultz made it sound like he's arriving next year, as well. That would leave room for only 1 more forward if the current roster limits don't change. Am guessing that last spot will be reserved for a top-shelf player. 4 Quote

.357 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Plus Pilgrim & O'Neill would have been bottom-6 role players, & there simply wasn't enough room there with both B. & A. Schultz likely arriving. There's a logjam currently in the bottom-six. The pressing need for 26-27 is to fill Rickwood's big shoes in the center spot with a guy like Suvanto or a portal transfer; although Suvanto's very young (barely 18 yo once next season starts) & wouldn't have Rickwood's maturity & experience. BU is a good example of wanting to avoid an overabundance of youth on your team. 1 Quote

BU is a good example of wanting to avoid an overabundance of youth on your team. Specifically youth that isn't dominant all star talent right away. All of Amico (so underwhelming that he's back in junior), Murtagh, Fondrk, Trethewey, Vass have been disappointing in major part because they aren't elite & thus getting exposed. Boston University got so desperate that they had to bring Lawrence in early, and he's just been ok. While some of the recent Michigan teams obviously didn't win the National Championship, a lot of their young talent was elite enough to come in as young freshmen and succeed to large degrees. Same goes for Celebrini, Cooley, Sanderson, etc. Non elite junior players aren't good enough to come into the NCAA as 18 or even 19 year olds the vast majority of the time. 1 Quote

But his numbers aren’t terrible considering his size, work ethic and faceoff ability. He does have twice as many goals as fellow 2007 Denver recruit Sam Spehar, who I don’t think has as many intangibles. I think someone will be getting a good character guy, but as someone said, excited to see what Chyzyk and the staff have up their sleeve. Kind of hope O’Neill and Pilgrim go to another league so we don’t have to see them possibly play well against us. 1 Quote
