cberkas Posted April 15 Posted April 15 It is sounding like the NCHC and CBS are not close on their negotiations for a new TV deal. The league is rumored to be looking into what equipment it will take to have games on ESPN+. I expect NCHC to sign a deal with ESPN that would have games on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU when not on ESPN+ if a new deal with CBS isn't reached. The amount of games on CBSSN has been less and less and sounds to be an issue, league wanting more. Midco is defiantly going to want the NCHC but the league needs "national" exposure, and with ESPN Alex might do NCAA Regionals and hopefully replace Bucci at the Frozen Four. 3 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted April 15 Posted April 15 What do I want? Midco. What's begrudgingly best for NCHC? ESPN. 3 Quote

AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted April 15 Posted April 15 ESPN+ is the hockey streaming app, go where the eyeballs are. NCHC.tv/CBSSN revenue isn't enough to justify a solo approach for the conference. Make it easy for everyone to watch the NCHC. Added bonus with ASU/CC/DU home games starting around/after when Eastern time zone games are ending. 2 Quote

ND_Texan Posted April 15 Posted April 15 I'm hoping for ESPN so East Coasters learn that the best hockey in the country is played out west. Even with NCHC winning all the natty's it seems they still haven't learned. Certainly their announcers haven't. 2 Quote
AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Midco produces and broadcasts locally while ESPN+ picks up the feed for their app, just like NESN. Get it done! 1 3 Quote
NoDak Hockey Nation Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Every team in the conference should be required to have the same level of cameras as UND. Denver is a joke. 4 Quote
siouxfan512 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 ESPN would be fantastic. I already have the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN bundle for kids and to watch UND football games. Toss hockey on there as well! 4 Quote

It easier said than done. It costs roughly $2 million (or more) to get all the equipment needed to match what Midco does and a team of individuals to produce it. I highly doubt many schools in the NCHC will want to fork over that kind of money themselves. UND is very fortunate to have MIDCO (and previously Forum Communications) in their backyard and willing to do it. 3 Quote
ND_Texan Posted April 15 Posted April 15 If it goes to ESPN it likely means Starman is out of a job. Quote

fightingsioux4life Posted April 15 Posted April 15 It's time for a change in NCHC television rights. CBSSN cares only about basketball. Let's stop wasting their time and sign a deal with ESPN. The national exposure is crucial to have for our conference. 3 Quote

nodakgirl93 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Just get rid of nchc.tv and have all games stream on espn+. We don't need a few games to be televised nationally. It's a joke when you pay for a yearly subscription to watch your team but you can't on the few nights when it's on the CBS crap. Not to mention the low quality some of the schools put on. Nchc.tv is very overpriced for what you get. There were some issues during the tourney when a few games were not working on espn+ so that is a bit concerning though. 4 Quote

St. Cloud, Duluth, CC, Miami Ohio and Western aren't going to drop all that money themselves just to air hockey. Yes, all the schools should have good production of their games but again this just shows how low of a priority hockey is around the country compared to other sports. The money just does not add up for the schools to justify dropping a huge amount of money on equipment and then hiring a full-time crew for one sport. Quote

siouxfan512 Posted April 15 Posted April 15 Also going to throw it out that with ESPN, you would get to watch ALL NCHC games, whereas through the NCHC app you have to pay extra for the full subscription rather than the UND only one ..... Unless the NCHC maintains their app and only select games get shown on the ESPN channels. 1 Quote
