On that note, sounds like another Johannes in that he's a late bloomer who grew up dreaming of playing for UND. The picture of him with a Sioux jersey with the trophy in Tampa is encouraging.

Get him in! I’d take 20 Hunter Johannes type players. Loved his passion and compete.

A quick thought. This is not mean to be critical of your post. Maybe give it another look. It seems most sioux fans know,…local media censor und athletics news. Been common knowledge for many yrs. It’s an injustice. That said, sioux sports forums, have alot of cutting edge news and tips. No need to worry about missing out. Go sioux

Fair enough, I only lived in GF for education. Everything that happened when I was there was reported in the news. Maybe spotlight is the correct word rather than scrutiny.

Heard in the latter days of Gino, that the players weren’t doing that, and recruits didn’t feel very welcome.  That, and the loss of passion that just naturally diminishes when you have gone through that grind for so many years, and they didn’t have as many built in recruiting opportunities like the elite league where the best talent comes together.  

Need all facets of our recruiting to come back together, and having a younger guy like Chyzyk will certainly pay dividends.

Perhaps Berry had a sense of honor that is being systematically removed from college hockey, and from society in general.  Hearing that potential players had been told "sorry, we are full" makes me think that Berry commits to a recruit  and will honor that commitment no matter the consequences.  People that left early under him, were they shown the door, or was it more the player deciding to move elsewhere?

Hope this UMD player works out, a new facet of being a fan that I will struggle with is my dislike of an opposing player, mostly due to his play, but now I am supposed to be happy and welcoming....   Does Jax have a class on "how not to dive", seems prudent at this point.

Seriously, in reading Schlossman’s article, seeing all the pictures of Menghini as a kid decked out in Sioux gear and his quotes about being a life long fan, just makes you wonder why Berry passed on him the first time around. 

Found this piece from Jason Feldman back in 2022 when Menghini committed to UMD, and taking a quick look at his EP page, he hadn't played much in the USHL at that point, so you had to do a ton of projection from his Northstar Christian Academy and NAHL days. I've given Berry plenty of !@#$ for things he's done with recruiting, but I'll cut him a little slack here.

I’m looking at Menghini’s numbers….he must be more of a culture guy or something? Good at pk? We’re not talking about a big time offensive player here. I’m still waiting for some F’s

I would be very interested in learning about the responsibilities in regard to recruiting.  How much is done by the asst coaches and how much by the head coach?  Lots of rumors about recruiting going around?

Culture/PK/depth scoring. Could see Menghini's numbers bump up as an upperclassmen

There have been rumors for the last 6 months that BC and BU have been offering $300,000 or more for McKenna to come there. Since he's from Quebec it will surprise me if he comes to UND just like I was surprised Boisvert came here.

McKenna is not from Quebec. He’s from Whitehorse, Yukon.

If a First Nation enrollee, ask one of the area tribes regarding an NIL contract. Could work with Native American youth and promote hockey. The Nike exec coming to campus should be approached. (Gotta think outside the box).

Id rather take a guy who is young and has gotten better each year, knows the conference (and is a goal scorer btw), then some 30 point senior from the Atlantic conference. Menghini is a great pick up for what is available.

May i? Sense of honor? Ummm maybe. However, we know he was lacking in other areas of sense. Most importantly….common sense. I was a fan of berrys. It was a balloon popper when previous & existing issues came to the surface. Made me realize i/we never really knew him. In retrospect,  How did this team win so many games? It was only the lack of responsible reporting by people in the know. That kept these issues out of the spotlight. Censoring news never bodes well for those involved. Writers/media become a laughing stock. Just my 2 cents. Go sioux!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, I believe NIL for Canadians would have to be earned through Canadian groups. Of course, that doesn't mean money handshakes and bags of cash aren't being given to NCAA athletes under the table.
