Other schools fans are very upset with UND right now, and how could they do this. A counter point was made to a SCSU fan, did you go to watch them play, oh no, well why does it bother you.

I know this is crazy-talk, but end the minimum sports requirements and play what your demographics have interest in and will pay to support.

I guess if people are fine with a one million loss, why not be fine with another million loss and have a sport that many people are interested in, and area girls can aspire to.  Let’s see if this tough decision leads somewhere for future aspirations.

Especially since the NCAA let things get way out of control with NIL and making it easy to transfer for any reason.  They have made it very necessary to make hard financial decisions.

I really don't understand the reaction to this that I am seeing on social media. Why in the world should colleges keep funding sports that lose boatloads of money and that nobody attends? The school and the community gain nothing by having a tennis team. If the minimum sport requirement and Title IX were not a thing, I would see no reason why we shouldn't cut everything but hockey, football, and men's and women's basketball. Make everything else club sports

When college sports were co-curricular, part of the broader college expericence, and run by academics, sport minimums were acceptable. 

Now that college sports is high-dollar business it needs to be run like a business.

 

Heck, Notre Dame just named a COO for Athletics ... just like a big business has a COO.

I see this as the start of a shift towards club teams not affiliated with universities, much like the rest of the world does it. 

There are multiple downsides, including the ability to attract students who normally wouldn't attend UND, attracting international students who bring their experience to the classroom, universities now become a sports minor league that also offers education.

Think we found a winner if another Women's sport is needed down the road. 6 members / 4 meets a year. 

Cutting two sports is bad optics (even more-so when you're the only Dakota school that ever does it), but the "bad press" will pass. I think Chavez might have this one mapped out! I'm as surprised as anyone.

Rodeo is not an NCAA sanctioned sport; it doesn't count. 

It is a great example of support the sports that interest your local demographics.

I've considered this for some time, but keep these 4 and womens soccer, softball and volleyball. Drop golf, tennis and track and field. No one gives a hoot.

I’d be fine with that too. Moot point as long as the 14 sport minimum is in place unfortunately
