cberkas Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Other schools fans are very upset with UND right now, and how could they do this. A counter point was made to a SCSU fan, did you go to watch them play, oh no, well why does it bother you. 1 Quote

Emphasizing my thought that it’s insane in the current landscape to have more than the minimum amount of required sports (even if it’s just one). Cut both, it’s clean. Redistribute the $ & scholarships to other programs. Hit reset. Hunt for a W sport to offset potential FBS move. It’s a great plan. We’ll see. Do I think this is likely from Bill Chavez? No. Womens triathlon <- USD already sponsors Beach volleyball <- that was for you @SiouxVolley, RIP Womens nordic skiing (hold the alpine jokes) (NCAA does not sponsor mens triathlon or mens beach.) How many of you can genuinely say you have been to...or know someone that has been to a UND tennis game...or watched one being streamed....ever? I forget how much women’s hockey was bleeding, but most people saw the need to move away from that even though it fit more into the regional sports scene. 1 Quote
tnt Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Cue Schlossman saying that they learned of it while they had a recruit on court at the time of the cut, especially since tennis is Schlossman’s sport. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I know this is crazy-talk, but end the minimum sports requirements and play what your demographics have interest in and will pay to support. 1 Quote

Better yet, they learned it during the final set on match point with a recruit in the stands Quote

Let’s see if this tough decision leads somewhere for future aspirations. Quote

They have made it very necessary to make hard financial decisions. 1 Quote
Fratt Mattin Posted 34 minutes ago Posted 34 minutes ago I really don't understand the reaction to this that I am seeing on social media. Why in the world should colleges keep funding sports that lose boatloads of money and that nobody attends? The school and the community gain nothing by having a tennis team. If the minimum sport requirement and Title IX were not a thing, I would see no reason why we shouldn't cut everything but hockey, football, and men's and women's basketball. Make everything else club sports 2 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted 22 minutes ago Posted 22 minutes ago When college sports were co-curricular, part of the broader college expericence, and run by academics, sport minimums were acceptable. Now that college sports is high-dollar business it needs to be run like a business. Heck, Notre Dame just named a COO for Athletics ... just like a big business has a COO. 1 Quote
