My opinion is Bernhard should go first and I can live another year of Sather in my mind he is still more capable of putting winner together than Bernhard. If they wouldn't have hired Hutter and one of his player/coach we would have been like first year Bernhard couple win season. To me it’s matter priorities women’s basketball is in far worse shape than men’s side if UND hadn’t had Denver, Omaha, St Thomas, (earlier from D3), you could count number of wins in the conference on your hand in last 5 years. I don’t think they are going change coaches for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and soccer in one year.  I believe they could make one more change.
UND fb football  yes we have settled for not winning but I always have thought we have been behind in basketball programs and even compared to football. Basketballl on national level attracts more attention even football especially FCS football or even Hockey and I think it also quickest of sports to rebuild because it only takes couple star athletes to propel you up the ranks. If we had winning program Betty would be full all time plus we would be getting some nationally televised games. Just look at exposure we got from the Alabama game.  I grew up where UND basketball was recognized even at the division 2 level. We had some amazing coaches here of Bill Fitch, Dave Gunther, and Rich Glass go look at their records here we were down right dominating basically playing same. Universities we are now playing. This was major sport here durning that time of more than 30 years of basketball. Same thing when we Gene Roebuck on women’s side of basketball. We need to get back to that level of program. It was time where we won 2/3 of our games over decades and we can do it again if administration demands excellence.

Can you please provide your thoughts on the comment above by @GoodGood where he provided actual stats and facts? You seem to love ignoring facts when those facts don’t fit your argument.

Thanks!

His facts are correct. I don’t ignore them, there is nothing I can do about them other than try to support the University and UND athletics. I don’t fuss over stuff I have no control over.
Those facts have nothing to do with my opinion.  It isn’t based on wins and loses. I think winning is important and it certainly was much more so when I played and coached. I don’t play and coach anymore and don’t pretend I could.
I have stated an opinion that Sather isn’t going anywhere and why I think that. I haven’t said he should be extended. If you want to argue that he will be fired at the end of the season, I have stated I think he “won’t be going anywhere” and I would take that bet.  If your argument is that he hasn’t done enough to stay, the record supports your argument and I get it. If I knew a new coach would turn things around quickly and we would be league champs, I’m with you. Otherwise, I’m interested to see how the end of the season plays out and if we can keep our key players and key recruits.

I could like this one twice!  @iramurphy is a homer and doesnt deal in facts.  Just good vibes.  If Sather brought his record to Creighton he wouldnt have a job there.  So what McDermott thinks of him doesnt matter.  I actually doubt McDermott truly thinks he is doing great, but its politically correct to say.

I am not arguing the facts. You don’t seem to be smart enough to understand my opinion is that I don’t think Sather is going anywhere not whether or not he should.
What McDermott thinks does matter. What you and I think is what doesn’t matter. Deal with that fact then like it twice.

If the athletic department values Greg McDermott’s opinion (who has no idea that Sather wins 33% of his games) over the actual results, we’re in big trouble. Oh wait, our athletic department already is in big trouble 🤦‍♂️

Trust me I am smart enough to understand a 33% win percentage doesnt deserve a extension.  Your opinion is that Chaves has done a great job as AD, I am smart enough to know that almost every team has gone backwards under his leadership.  You are saying because Greg McDermott thinks he is a good coach we should keep him around.  Other then the first year he has not won a tournament game.  I obviously dont know Greg but I almost Guarantee he doesnt feel a coach with a 33% win percentage after 6 years is doing great.  No other big time basketball school would allow this.  I am starting to think maybe you are not smart enough to understand this.

I believe it was pretty clear McDermott understood the team has struggled again and there has been pressure on Chaves.  I think that’s why he made the call.

Your point is well taken regarding results.

I don’t believe we have the experience as either players or coaches (if you have played or coached) to say he doesn’t know anything about coaching so of course his opinion carries weight.

How many years do you think we should allow him to be here before we look for a change then?  Or as long as he wants to carry his 33% win percentage.  Would you have a time frame?   Or as long as he knows basketball according to Gregg its from here to eternity.  I feel at some point a 33% isnt good enough or maybe thats your standard.

I haven’t said he should be extended, nor did I say Chaves has done “a great job”. I have simply brought up points as to why I don’t think either are going anywhere.  You and others bring up reasons why you want them gone. Not much depth to either position but this is a fan forum. Fans understand results.

I’m not sure discussing standards on a fan forum with someone I know little about is worth while. My standard is whether or not I would go into combat with the person. ( probably not you).
However, in answer to your question, when is his contract up?  In the meantime, I would like to see how they finish the season, and which players stay and who are new guys coming in.

Impossible to know. If certain players stayed, certain players would have never come here. If certain players stayed, maybe certain players would’ve transferred. Too many what ifs

He must know something about coaching when UNDs good players are being recruited away

they did develop while they were here

If Omot and Ihenacho are here and healthy, we’d be a top 3 team for sure. No doubt in my mind.

If Omot and Ihenacho are here that means no Mier, and not sure about Woodson and Reggie if they would’ve came.

Just for context, I would rather have BJ and Ihenacho

Also Mara and Mayar would be in much different roles. Who knows if they would’ve stayed. Omot has been hurt the entire year. Too many what ifs

Then you would have to assume NDSU, SDSU and Omaha all kept their stars as well.  This is college sports now with the portal.  We are no different then the other schools in the summit.  Ihenacho has contributed very little to a bad Washington team.  I dont know we are at the top of the league still if we kept our stars.  Bottom line is Sather hasnt been able to keep up with the other teams in the league.

You’re right. And it’s all butterfly effect type talk. I’m still confident they’d be top half of the league. But that’s all hypothetical and doesn’t actually matter.

Agreed. You can’t say what if we still had so and so. What if ndsu was rolling out Moni, Nelson, and Morgan? What if SDSU was rolling out Mayo, Kyle, and Cluff? What if Omaha, the conference champion, still had Frankie?
