Sure.... a state with open records laws decided to forego those to hire a backdoor replacement and are trusting high-school kids to keep it a secret. 

That also assumes the AD isn't feeding information to the local media on a regular basis. There's a reason you see the Herald with articles ready to go after announcements.

UND has a curse of its coaches doing just enough to merit extensions which keeps a program in its perpetual funk. However, pre-season results foreshadow this might have been the best we are going to see for awhile.

I will preface this by saying that I think the summit league is terrible and results should take that into account. However I think this is the best coaching job Sather has done in his 7 years here. This roster is not good (which is on him). Garrett Anderson has been a disappointment. Marley Curtis has been disappointing. Micah Curtis isn’t even on the team. Yet somehow they’ve found a way to maximize every other player. King is doing King things. Kraft, Guga, Greyson, Reggie, Wylee all playing some great basketball in their roles. A3 has his moments.The new defense is perfect for this team. The offense has found ways to score the ball. I’ve been saying all year this team is fun to watch. They are easy to cheer for. I did not expect them to win many games but after seeing this first weekend of Summit League games, I don’t see why they cannot compete for a top 4 spot

I feel the exact same as you. Preseason looking at this roster I just didn’t see many D1 wins. They have definitely proved me wrong, and that’s with Anderson and the Curtis twins being underwhelming. I hadn’t planned on making many more games this year, but I will make it a point to make it back to the Betty multiple more times this year.

Extremely fun to watch. I think you’re accurate in most areas and I think a big part of why they’re playing this way, especially on the defensive end is Ty Danielson. I mean still gave up 80+ points yesterday in OT but the defense is flying and fun. I think it’s extremely important we keep him around. I guess that would probably mean keep Sather around unless we do the bold thing and just give the keys to Danielson, which I’m not necessarily opposed to…..

I really want to believe. I really want this season to end in a top 4 and do well in the tournament. I was at the last 2 games and the SDSU game was awesome. The OR game was a bit of a roller coaster. I do think Ty Danielson has a LOT to do with the success we've seen, and the enjoyment of watching. I also agree with Good Good with the state of the Summit League. I'm not willing to say Sather is doing his best work quite yet. Their have been times in the last few years I jumped on the bandwagon, only to see the wagon turn over and burn. Again, I hope a top half finish in the Summit is on the horizon, but im not convinced. I'll still be cheering, enjoying, and hoping, but it's too soon to know.

Sather is an excellent coach who gets the most out of his roster every year.

Definitely pleased with the 3-1 start and I do agree there’s interesting pieces on this team for this year and hopefully the future. As others have said, it sure seems the Summit is down so we may be able to fight for the top half of the league.

The 1st person to get thanks for a 3-1 record should be coach Ty Danielson. Unlike years prior, our defense is what is causing other teams fits and helping our offense.

Agreed. It’s going to be super important this offseason to retain Ty. Give him the associate HC title or something. If we are looking for a new HC at the end of the year, he should be strongly considered, imo.

Should we praise him for the 82-126 career record at UND as well? How about the 41-63 conference record at UND? Just curious on what should receive praise and what shouldn't so I know moving forward.

The team has definitely come a long ways from the start.  They are fun to watch mainly because how hard they work.  Anderson is finally looking like the player we all thought he could be.

I am curious what others think if this will be enough to save Sathers Job?   I really am looking for a fresh start for this team and hope we move on, but at 3-1 seems a extension will happen.  Especially with Chavez in charge.

Hard to tell, but I agree the team is fun to watch. They have a relatively young team compared to other summit league teams.  They will lose King, Anderson and Reggie but return everyone else, of course pending the portal moves.  Add some additional talented incoming freshman as well

It’s so hard to say with the conference in the shape it’s in this year. I do not think this year’s team would finish in the top 6 of last years conference. This year I think they could realistically finish as high as 3rd. They are fun to watch. I don’t think they have to worry a ton about losing guys to the portal. A really talented freshman class coming in. Year 8 could be the year for Sather

I agree they shouldn’t have to worry a ton about transfers but you never know. I would be pretty surprised if the Curtis twins are back, although they haven’t really been a key. If they’re not back, I do worry that’s a domino effect with AS3 and Jayden Moore. I guess we will see. Micah’s absence from the team just worries me.

I did not factor in the domino effect if Curtis twins and AS3 transfer. I was thinking more along the lines of I don’t know if any impact guys would be moving up levels. As long as Sather is coach, wouldn’t Jayden Moore basically be locked into coming after signing his NLI?

like previously mentioned...i hope this doesn't turn into a bubba thing where he just does enough to get by....if smith is available or anyone with a pulse don't be afraid to go get an "eric".....he did in one year what buba couldn't in 10....don't be afraid to try again...with the portal you can be up and running the same year instead of the past wehre you are building for 4 or 5 years....

I just feel like nothing is truly binding in today’s NCAA but yeah I suppose his NLI would make it pretty locked in, unless coaching change.
