UND needs to come in with the idea they need to get much better especially the front 7 on defense and the oline offensively. I watched the Youngstown-USD game and it was obvious they were very capable, especially offensively. I would have assigned the quickest/fastest LB that can tackle, as a “spy” for their QB the entire game and moved him all over the field pre-snap in a 3-3-5 lineup with that LB as the “wolf “. I would consider the same tactic if the ISU QB is causing our run defense problems. Might be too late to incorporate that if they haven’t worked on it. The 3-4 or 3-3-5 are both utilized by smaller, quicker teams but if you can’t tackle or put pressure on the qb, it doesn’t matter what alignment you use. This game and the remaining games on our schedule are winnable but we need to be at the top of our game. Go Hawks! This ain’t a scheme issue or even a personnel issue as much as it is a culture and accountability issue. Consistently so bad on the road for just too long for it to be anything else. I agree with the great minds of the game on this one (Bill Walsh, Bill Belichick, Nick Saban, etc.). It is what it is. Need a new voice of leadership and accountability in the room for the road woes to change. With that said, despite how bad UND is on the road and on defense, I fully expect UND to win this road game today. Indiana State is just that bad … Quote

UND Football Fan Posted November 2 Posted November 2 If there is a positive it is a noon kickoff, which is similar home games. Seriously it will come down to the trenches. O-Line needs way better push than last week. D-Line need to limit their push up front. Cannot let one dude abuse us like last week, we need someone to stand out in the interior and ILB on D, not just one play a game but at least one play per offensive series. Quote

Schemes are overall adjusted every game as all of these road games are against different teams, yet the culture, mindset, expectations of the team on the road always leads to the same result. It’s a culture issue, and it’s entirely Bubba’s fault (and also to a certain degree Chaves and UND’s blind supporters propagating this over a winning culture). Quote

I agree with you, was just saying there appeared to be obvious scheme issues along with everything else that is typical for them on the road. Quote

To @iramurphy’s point and to your point, yes, some scheme flaws are there on defense. Would a spy have maybe worked last week vs YSU? Possibly. But these games are oftentimes decided well in advance. It’s the message in the room (and unsaid expectations) = culture. The devil is in the details. Good teams run the same schemes as bad teams; the difference is in the details and the mindset. Discipline matters. “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail”, as the great Benny Franklin once said. Quote

There are definitely culture issues on the road, but definitely scheme issues were a problem against YSU. To let them rush for 300 yards when they are a sub par team is just complete crap and should be embarrassed as a DC. We'll see if the scheme is improved today against another running QB. Quote
cowboys5xsbs Posted November 2 Posted November 2 The silver helmets are nice but the hawk is too big Quote
Sioux94 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 Of Romfo is our mobile QB, shouldn't he have been able to skirt around that LB 1 Quote
