HoopsFan03
We all may as well stop talking about Jerry at this point because he’s 100% gone We’re never going to get to see him in live action for some reason

Or are reports of Jerry's greatness grossly exaggerated? Agree 100%.. the coaches see what we see.. if they had some much better option he would be out there. I am totally baffled why they don’t give Jerry time when we have a big lead though.. seems like you should want to develop the backups.

Well, I would say zero on defense since we decided to just play prevent defense for the last 35 minutes instead of mixing in personnel and continuing to attack.
Popular Post Dustin
For the people pleading for Jerry - first off, how you can know that Jerry is just flat out better? And if he were, wouldn’t he be starting? Or are our coaches so moronic that they have no idea what they’re doing? Something just doesn’t add up.

Dang, I remember 55 years ago second/third tier and not getting a chance to play. Made it harder to feel good about a big win. Later when I coached, every player on the team got some playing time during the game.
wheelsup
Also.. big win against a team everyone was sweating about. letdown - nope defense - awesome until we let off the gas Kickoffs - better certainly some head scratchers.. but 52-28.. I’ll take it.

Maybe up big in the second halves of the next two games, we’ll all get to see our popular backup quarterback. I agree with this, since our defense let them score on 3 straight drives....I think they kept Romfo out there....plus he obviously needs reps and practice on some of his throws. And this is coming from a guy who wanted to see plenty of Jerry in 2nd half when we were up 38-7 at half. I hope there is still a chance the next two games where Jerry gets more than a kneel down snap.

Siouxperfan7
I want to see Jerry out there as much as the next guy. But everyone needs to chill out. He is still only in his second year with the program. He will have his time. In the meantime, let’s be happy Simon is getting much needed reps before conference play begins. When he is playing in front of 19000 plus fans in the Fargodome in 3 weeks, it will prove to be worth it.
UND Football Fan
The pass that was INT on the tunnel screen, wasn’t totally on him because of the quick timing of it, that pick the OC could also be blamed because earlier ISU blew that play up. I still feel Jerry will get his time either packaged in or if Simon gets dinged up, we are running more things through Simon and having him run more. Coaches would not do that if there is not a quality backup. SDSU has two JR QB’s on roster I believe and they did not leave last year. (SDSU’s success helps), if we make playoffs and make a deep run, Jerry and others will likely stay IMO especially if we have blowout games where he can get meaningful reps. SiouxFanSince1990
Clearly they want to use Romfo for a lot of RPOs, but surprisingly, he hasn’t taken a lot of chances with his legs, when the opportunity is there. I’m not asking for Lamar Jackson, but make some plays.

There are other articles about Romfo being told by the OC hes the starter. Not hard. “He knows how to win, he knows how to control a game, and I think Coach Fruechte saw that and liked that,” Wide Receiver and Team Captain Bo Belquist said. “He played really well this fall camp. He controlled the ball, didn’t have too many turnovers, just played smart.” https://www.valleynewslive.com/2024/08/26/langdon-areas-simon-romfo-ready-lead-und-offense/

Popular Post Nodak78
Time to quit bitching and accept this as a great victory for many reasons. Postgame Notes North Dakota is now 7-3 all-time in the series with Idaho State. NoDak is 46-12 in Potato Bowl USA Games. The Fighting Hawks are on a five-game winning streak in Potato Bowl USA Games. UND has now won 27 of its last 30 games inside the Alerus Center. The Fighting Hawks are now 4-1 all-time in the MVFC/Big Sky Challenge. UND led 38-7 at the break. The 38 points in the opening half were the most UND has scored in a first half in its Division I history against an FCS opponent. The 38 points were also the most points scored by UND in the first half since Aug. 30, 2012, against South Dakota School of Mines – NoDak had 45 points that half. The 52 points are the most North Dakota has ever put up against an opponent from the Big Sky Conference. It is also the third-most points NoDak has scored against an FCS team in its history. With eight receptions, Bo Belquist broke UND's Division I school record for receptions in a career with 224. He broke the record of Greg Hardin (2010-13), who hauled in 216 grabs in his career. Belquist finished with 165 yards receiving, a new career best. He had the most receiving yards by a UND receiver since Greg Hardin put up 179 yards at UC Davis on Nov. 16, 2013. In the opening quarter, Devin Hembry recorded a 92-yard pick-six to put UND up 14-0 early. With the pick, he became the first Hawk to score a pick-six since Ted Mullin had a 33-yard interception return for touchdown in the 49-10 win over Western Illinois last season. Lance Rucker and Riley Gerhardt each had a strip-sack and a fumble recovery. Jonnie Wiltshire also forced a fumble in the fourth quarter that was recovered by Kason Kelley. Devin Hembry also had a 92-yard pick-six in the first quarter.
