SDSU doesn't take transfers. Coach commits to his recruits and hopes they reciprocate. It's worked very well for him, obviously.

Helps to keep players when you can pitch the Summit League home court advance and make the tournament just about every year.

It's a NIL world. What someone is willing to pay for a player is anyone's guess. An Alston award is about $6k; that's not hard to overmatch. Who needed a freshman of the year women's point guard?

Even if next few seasons are rebuilding from the ground up we would have been looking at the same records if they would have stayed status quo - at least there is path forward. I wonder about the future of most mid major basketball teams for support. If you watch the road games their gyms are empty, when the older generation fans are gone there is no one to replace them.

Think I read that every player on SDSUs women's team is from within 500 miles of Brookings - just sayin.

Hutter did the same thing at Mayville. Most of the roster was ND or MN.

Just giving folks a visual comparison. Didn't say it was right or wrong.

Hutter may have to adjust to recruiting in Summit.  His last roster had 12 players at 5'10" or less.

Just providing context.  In the end, Hutter will do what we he thinks is best to try to make the team successful.

My guess is it will be local focus with a couple portal additions to supplement. I’m guessing Demers will still be on roster and he will probably have to go get another big. I’ll also be curious to see if he runs a similar style as he did in Mayville.

Anything is more.

What is she going to get in NIL? A box of donuts and some free coffee for the year?

Unless you’re the elite of the elite and at a top of the top school, there is no money in women’s basketball.

Unfortunately sometimes scorched earth is a good way to get rid of blight. Turning over the roster, even a good one, if not totally bought in to your system, means it’s time to move on. New coach has been successful at each level. Let him bring in his team. Next couple yrs might be tough. But let’s see what he can do. Change usually brings energy..

Possibly but the last few years have been rough, now we need to sit back and expect a couple more tough years on the hope that after that maybe basketball will be better? I don’t see anything within this athletic department that gives me hope changes in coaching will help. None of Chaves hires have been good. If we are going to have a rough few years Armacost needs to find a leader that can energize the entire athletic department and create some excitement across the board.

Every great coach at the top started in the lower classifications, seem to remember Mayville had a pretty good men's basketball coach that is now in the big leagues. There has been much discussion about grabbing an up and comer - Hutton could be the one.

You cannot compare recruiting at Mayville St to what is done at UND. Rural ND/Minn. has kids everywhere that can play NAIA basketball. UND can maybe find 1 or 2 players in state that are DI players. When you get to Minnesota, DI, DII, and DIII schools exist everywhere and the competition for recruiting is nuts. UND needs to be in both states as well all states between Illinois to Colorado recruiting. Just my 2 cents but recruiting is hard 🙂

If you have losing teams with a majority of area players, you will probably get fired just same as a coach with losing teams that have players from all over the country.  I used to think in that situation with area players, a coach would get a couple of years more.  In today's environment, it will probably get you fired quicker.

I do think Winnipeg and Regina are within the 500 mile radius.

I don't expect a call from Hutter tonight.  I am comfortable with that.

Wasn’t saying that is what he should do here. Obviously you have to expand it at the D1 level.

Do we know where she’ll land?

So did the ladies leave because Mal was coaching or because she was being let go, how did the ladies know Mal would step down ?

Dad of player Is quoted as saying they filed the paperwork before the coaching change was announced. Having eight players leave was probably the reason Mal stepped down. Hoping there is a chance some change their mind. Several on that list have played their last D1 basketball game.

I’m not sure but you were the one claiming NIL was why she was leaving

No, I said it's a NIL world and not to be surprised when low tier good players are called.

THE reason? I have no idea.
Part of A reason? How could money not be.
