DU can expose deficiencies of very good teams.

And they’re doing it again tonight.

Those sweeps of Union and Long Island University kinda show we haven’t exactly beaten world beaters. CC’s showing improvement from the dreaded Haviland years but Kris Mayotte still has a ways to go.

Spicer and Costantini with good starts to their seasons.
Going head to head with Spicer next weekend at Duluth.
If UND can contain him and Steeves, I like our chances.

The gophers should've swept that series.  Thiessen saved Duluth from being swept.

On another note, Snuggerud is a better player than Celebrini from what we've seen.

A huge chunk of the non-conference season is in the books. Here's how the conferences have done so far, ranked by winning percentage:

  1. Big 10--.700 (30-12-3)
  2. Hockey East--.685 (31-14-1)
  3. NCHC--.653 (28-13-8)
  4. ECAC--.415 (16-23-2)
  5. CCHA--.347 (13-28-8)
  6. Atlantic Hockey--.300 (12-28-0)

There's definitely a top-three/bottom-three situation. The top three conferences are getting wins from everyone: Neither the Big 10 nor the NCHC currently has a team with an overall record of below .500 (Duluth and Ohio State are both 3-3-3), and Hockey East's "worst" teams are only a game under .500.

Just watched UND@BU highlights (Fri and Sat). What I learned:

  • UND's goalie is Peterson
  • UND's 28 is Johanson
  • Tim Hennessy is nowhere near the biggest broadcasting homer out there

And Livanavage is "Luh-VAN-oh-vitch". Seriously, all weekend, Peter Griffin could not be bothered to check the pronunciation guide.

I'm curious what the bench minor was that gave Wisconsin the power play with time running out in the 3rd.

With 1:40 left in regulation, Michigan challenged a no-goal call, despite already having used its timeout. Michigan contended that it had scored a goal, saying that a shot by Rutger McGroarty from the right circle had gone in before the whistle for a net coming off. A Wisconsin player pushed Michigan's Dylan Duke into the net, causing it to dislodge just as McGroarty was shooting. The puck seemed to go in, but officials ruled that it only went in because the net came off.

Michigan lost the challenge, and because it had already used its timeout, was called for a bench penalty for delay of game.
