SiouxVolley Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 Apparently, even winning four Big Sky titles, for the first time in Big Sky history that the the Big 4 titles have been swept, did not do much for UND as UND finished seventh overall. Have not found a press release, but this was posted on another board. Big Sky Overall men's and women's 1. NAU 8.71 2. Sac St 6.63 3. Weber St 6.33 4. Eastern Washington 6.07 5. Montana State 5.96 6. Montana 5.22 7. North Dakota 5.14 8. Northern Colorado 4.56 9. Southern Utah 4.31 10. Idaho St 4.20 11. Portland St 3.95 Apparently, NAU wins based on m&w cross country, ( they were men's national champs), m&w indoor track, m&w outdoor track, m&w tennis, and women's golf. Quote
Smoggy Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I think they did combine the indoor outdoor tracks for this award which makes sense. But always found these awards strange. How the olympic sports are considered on par with revenue sports doesn't make sense to me. Quote
Siouxperfan7 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 We all know who was the King of the Big Sky last year!! 3 Quote
nodak651 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 This award is meaningless if Sac came in at 2nd place. Quote

Would you have rather been NAU, Sac St, Weber, EWU, MSU or Montana last school year in the Big Sky?..... Or UND? 4 Quote
darell1976 Posted June 23, 2017 Posted June 23, 2017 I would rather have trophies, banners and a sweet dance trip over being in top of these standings. 2 Quote

Agreed. Being nationally ranked in sports like badminton, billiards and ping-pong may help you on lists like this, but it sure doesn't do much for the fan base and alums. I know Gopher fans like to point to lists like this when they are struggling in MBB, WBB, MH and FB. 3 Quote
geaux_sioux Posted June 26, 2017 Posted June 26, 2017 Clearly they didn't factor in number of Olympians.... Total joke if you ask me 1 Quote
Smoggy Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 Well it seems we did win the President's Cup from the league after all. We finished 5th in athletics, but they have an academic portion that we won due to our high APR. 1 Quote
jdub27 Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 NORTH DAKOTA CAPTURES FIRST BIG SKY PRESIDENTS' CUP Quote North Dakota secured its first Presidents’ Cup victory and became the sixth Big Sky program to win the cup since the award’s implementation in 2002-03. The Fighting Hawks placed fifth overall in the athletic standings, winning titles in volleyball and men’s basketball, while also finishing as co-champions in football and women’s basketball. Furthermore, UND is the first-ever Big Sky school to win regular-season titles in volleyball, football and men’s and women’s basketball. However, it was North Dakota’s performance in the classroom that clinched the Presidents’ Cup victory. UND had the best APR rating for the fifth consecutive since joining the Big Sky, scoring a 991.1. They also finished third in team GPA (3.31), with its women’s golf team recording a program-best 3.57 GPA. Schools are awarded points based on five criteria: - Individual Team Grade Point Averages - APRs. - Number of All-Conference performers with a grade point average above 3.0- - Women’s All-Sports Trophy Points - Men’s All-Sports Trophy Points 2 Quote
The Sicatoka Posted July 17, 2017 Posted July 17, 2017 It would be mind-boggling to win the conference's four premiere spectator sport titles and not win the President's Cup. 3 Quote
