gsiouxo Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Wonder how many of these folks willing to dish out bucks for tickets are hunters.....the type of hunter that gets pissed when they have to pay to hunt!!! I refuse to pay to hunt so hard to pay extra just to get a chance to purchase tickets... Can't believe they didn't think they could sell out or close at T Mobile.....UND vs MN ....reasonable hotel rates....reasonable flights .... Someone mentioned be fun if they line up someplace for Sioux fans to watch game in Vegas....especially if their NHL team would be home over this weekend....fun get together and could also catch an NHL game 1 Quote

I mean when you can sell out the Orleans with only tickets sold to the Champions club, I would think that would be a hint that you'd probably sell a few more. I get they can't afford to lose money, but they also can't afford leaving a potential million dollars of ticket sales on the table (10,000 more seats at T-Mobile). They didn't do enough research obviously, because they were flat out wrong having it at the Orleans. Did UND lose money at MSG when 12000 fans were there? Honest question. Quote

No but that mainly has to do with UND not being the "host" of the game. The NCHC teamed up with MSG to put on the game and invited UND and BC. UND didn't really have much invested in that game. UND also didn't make money off of the game as there wasn't really the opportunity for that. Quote

Would have been a pretty cheap investment this year when $135 would have gotten you an easy way to get 2 regional tickets and 4 Vegas tickets. While I agree with the premise here, 135 would not have gotten you regional tickets. I've donated more than that over the past couple years since moving back to Grand Forks, and I'm only around 1100 in the priority points list. Regional tickets did not make it to that level, although apparently I could have bought Vegas tickets. 2 Quote

I get that Vegas is a destination trip but let's look at some facts: MSG was half-full this year, a year after winning a national championship UND hasn't sold out games as consistently in the past, they're only playing one game so you have to assume fewer people are going to make that trip for just the single game. In hindsight you can believe that UND would sell out an NHL arena (although I don't believe they would for this game), but the costs go up even with more people in the stands. Weird....They announced it was sold out and I heard it. Quote

Champions Club members all had a chance. The higher priority numbers had a better chance. Everyone over 800 had a chance at tickets. We were like 1200 and got 2. Quote

Another 3,000 at $99 is another $300,000. So we're already $150,000 short of the million you suggested. A school never gets 100% of the ticket price. In addition to having to rent the arena (way more than $100,000), Orleans also gets a cut of tickets. What other math are you missing? That money goes away fast. In your infinite wisdom please tell me why renting this building would be way more then $100,000? I can rent the Ralph for less then $200 an hour and it is bigger. Granted that doesn't include ushers and other employees but lets do the math...for $100,000 you can employ 2500 people for 4 hours at $10/hour. I don't think there will be that many staff needed! Also, lets consider that this arena is attached to a hotel, a hotel that they are booking rooms for with this game. Oh, lets also remember this place has casino...a casino that the 7500 in attendance may gamble in. Good thing you are not negotiating this deal...they should comp this arena to UND, not charge them $100,000 + (which they most certainly are not) I love these non business folks that just throw out these obsurd numbers without doing the math or thinking in a business manner! 1 2 Quote
Cratter Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 Good luck getting Minnesota to be a pawn in UNDs game ever again. Quote

I apologize for understanding how large NHL arenas are rented for events like this. Unfortunately, I'm not a "business folk" in that I don't sign the contract. I have spent the last 10 years working in college and professional athletics. The T-Mobile arena was built to make money for itself, not to be a comped arena. The attached hotel and casino will have no trouble making boatloads of money on Halloween weekend without UND fans. Unfortunately, a hockey arena in Las Vegas costs more than one in Grand Forks. T-Mobile can instead have a concert that will sell out and make more money. That's why the cost is and can be so high. 3 1 Quote
MissSioux85 Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 This might be an unpopular opnion, but given the smaller venue, I wish UND had only allowed Champions Club members to purchase 6, 4, and 2 tickets maximum instead of 8, 6, and 4. I've seen many comments on Facebook from club members who bought the maximum because they could, not because they needed them. 8, 6, 4 makes sense for a place like MSG with 17,000+ seats, but Orleans? Did CC members have the same options for the West Regional at Scheels Arena? 2 Quote

If you want to talk about renting T-Mobile...the extra 10,000 tickets sold at $80 equals $800,000 in lost revenue. Sure there are extra expenses involved in T-Mobile but if you can't agree that there is a lot of opportunity lost then I am sorry 2 Quote
cberkas Posted February 10, 2017 Posted February 10, 2017 UNLV's club team played in T-Mobile Arena this season, so it must not cost too much. Rick Arpin, the entertainment executive at MGM Resorts International, is a hockey fan and donated $10,000 for UNLV to go to the ACHA National Tournament. This would be the guy to talk to if anyone wants the game at T-Mobile Arena or to see if they want the game there. 2 Quote

Agree, the more people you can keep involved, the less likely you are to have apathy in your fan base should you encounter a down year. Nobody will want to jump off the bandwagon for fear of missing out on opportunities like this in the future. Quote
