2014 Volleyball season

Good deal not to drop a game to the Montana schools. We should be able to beat them at home no problem. Big match next weekend at Idaho st.

The Idaho State game is only given a 30% chance of a UND win by Massey.  The chances of winning the game at the Vandals is only 35%,

Massey Ratings for the Big Sky:

NAU  99

ISU   113

UND   120

Idaho 123

NoCO  152

PSU  262

SUU  266

E Wash 271

Sac St  383

Mont 457

Mont St 481

Weber St 491

Last weeks road trip to Montana should have been the easiest road trip.

Incidentally, USD is up to #59 is the Massey rankings even though they have been beaten by us twice.  They have beat both Creighton and Colorado which are both top 50 teams, to make a move up.

We're 91 and usd is 52. The data when you break it down by team or conference is different than it is if you show everyone together.... Wonder if it is an error or if it just lags

When just DI is counted, then we're 91.  When DII and lower levels are counted, then we drop by like 29 slots.  I looked up Concordia-SP that is highly ranked in DII, and they don't have a player over six foot, so normally they'd get slaughtered to a DI team with height as most of their kills would be blocked and a DI team wouldn't worry much about their blocking ability.  Since DI does not play DII much, the DII teams look severely overrated.  I don't doubt that UMD and ConcordiaSP are good for DII, but they are certainly no high level DI teams.  Probably close to NDSU.  There's only like 330 volleyball teams in DI, so low rated team like the Montana's would climb over 150 slots.

First edition of the season.  UND at 112.  USD amazingly at 56.  With no non-conference games left, I'm guessing our potential to go higher RPI is slim.  Anyway, all that really matters now is conference play, and there is a big match-up on Saturday at Idaho St.  Early in the season, yes, but since we only play them once, a win for a potential tie-breaker could go a long way.  Portland St. gave us some breathing room in the North division by beating Idaho last night, but those South division match-ups are going to be key.

How is USD ranked so highly while we beat them twice and have a pretty good non-conference record?

USD beat Colorado and Creighton, which are top 50 teams.  After that, their rankings ballooned up.  We on the other hand lost to NDSU, which is bad loss.

I hope Dooley doesn't play much tonight or at all, as we need her to be rested against Idaho State.  On back to back nights, especially with the travel, she didn't play to her standard last Saturday against Montana St.  Not that Pocatello is that far Ogden, but it's at elevation so you don't recover so quickly.

Heard some rumbling that even with a superior record, UND isn't allowed to host playoffs, any truth to that?

Sure just some ADs are bitching about coming to GF on short notice.

Just win so we're hosts weeks before and the issue goes away.  ISU, NAU, and PSU can't afford to travel.  They want a bus trip, but not to GF.
