I suggest you go read the court order dismissing the charges before perpetuating the perception that Hoffner has "baggage." I refuse to say the guy has "baggage" when he was falsely accused of one of the most heinous crimes imaginable that ruined his life. Even if there is a perception of "baggage" amongst the uninformed simply because he was accused, I don't think we should play into it. The bottom line is that he's not the most qualified from a football standpoint to be named head coach, but I'd have no problem with him as an offensive coordinator if the head coach so chose.

Never said it was fair or justified...it's his reality though and it is "baggage". If it wasn't to some extent he would have been reinstated at Mankato at some point.

The egos of most higher education presidents and athletic directors don't allow them to admit mistakes.

You don't have to feed it either with statements like "talk about baggage!" Anyone who learns the backstory of what happened is appalled.

The key difference between "baggage" associated with Pflugrad and Hoffner is that Pflugrad actually was guilty of something, even if we all agree that the infraction was very minor and he ended up being the scapegoat. Hoffner was innocent of the charges and was falsely accused, even though the charges were extremely serious. One was guilty. One was innocent. It's not the same thing.

With that said, I have no problem with Pflugrad. I believe that if there is an NCAA investigation of any program in this country, the NCAA will find an infraction. Not reporting that a teammate's mom bailed out another player on the team is an extremely thin reason to fire someone. It was an infraction that needs to be addressed and considered, but in my opinion, it should not prevent him from getting this job.

It should also be mentioned that Dan Hammer was just on 740 The Fan and when asked of the candidates that have applied who would you give the job to, he said Pflugrad. He continued to say Faison will work his network, which not many ND people are in, and chances are the next HC will be someone not formally mentioned yet.

Again not disagreeing but trying to shake the stigma of "child porn" isn't an easy one. That is reality... and it is "baggage" in today's society...right, wrong or indifferent. Pflu was "guilty" of what...when was he in a court of law?? He committed some NCAA infractions...not murder.

Hoffner and his family have been thru way too much and I agree he deserves another shot at coaching.

The bad thing about both these deals is 90% of the people don't care enough about the situations to know the final outcome, to the average person on the street all they hear is Hoffner had child porn and Pflugrad protected a rapist and had violations, and that's what they remember. They won't take the time to follow the story and see where it went, they'll assume they were guilty or got out of it somehow. People take notice of the sensational headline but don't care enough to follow it through to the truth, it's not fair for the accused but that's the way it is in today's world.

Honestly I had totally forgot about the Hoffner deal until it was brought up here this week, if someone would have asked me that name I would have said he was the coach who got arrested for child porn, and not knowing how it turned out wouldn't have been able to clear his name, unfair to him but being ignorant of the outcome that's what you remember.

Innocent until proven guilty is justice but unfortunately isn't necessarily true on the street.

It is very possible that they could be. Pflugard and Montana were found in violation. Major difference. That is the reality. Pflugard has been punished by the NCAA and that will be an issue he has to overcome if he is going to get the job. I'm sure that he realizes it.

I'll let you continue to live in your own world. I'll stand by my statement that NDSU and UND would be found in violation of these same things.

This seems to be your issue. The rest of us are discussing Mr. Pflugrad and whether his sanctions by the NCAA will affect his opportunity to be the new head football coach at UND. As someone stated earlier, the NCAA could probably find violations at pretty much every school if it wanted to do so. The fact that they actually did go and find violations at Montana, and the fact that they attributed part of the blame to Pflugrad, are what is at issue in regards to Pflugrad's potential employment. Potential violations at NDSUAAS and UND are a completely different topic.

The NCAA found enough issues to suspend him from coaching at game while employed at Weber St, forced Montana to forfeit four scholarships for three years and vacate five wins.

The same NCAA that found the nickname Fighting Sioux to be hostile and abusive? Yeah, I've always agreed with that "organization" …

Definitely not an NCAA apologist, not a fan of them at all. But they have a long memory. I'm just pointing out that Pflugard has been on the NCAA's radar before as has UND. Not realizing that Pflu's past will play a part into Faison's decision could leave a lot of his supporters disappointed.

Also, the poll has no #ChuckThePigskin option. Automatically invalidates it.

He is on 970WDAY with Jay Thomas right now.

After this whole McComas deal, UND football is gonna be better known nationally as the program some video game player applied to rather than a nationally competitive FCS program. I guess we've never been competitive in the FCS, so just as well be the butt of a big joke.

It's funny. If it had been to Alabama it'd still be funny. What's wrong with this guy having one hell of a sense of humor and taking advantage of the ND laws that make this possible. Might as well enjoy a good laugh while Faison does his thing.

Anyone see Mussman's comments about the #chuckthepigskin guy, or his comment to Tom Miller?

Lighten up. Don't take everything so seriously, it's a joke in the middle of a drawn out search. Treat it as such.

Nobody is looking down on UND for this, they have nothing to do with him sending in an app for a joke. If anything it's media exposure for the university. Anybody can send one in and the University has to accept it.

Is any publicity good publicity?

But at least we have a great new head coa....nevermind.

No what was did he say?

Heard he was talking about how embarrassing this was, and Kotelnicki (sp?) said some stuff. Anyone follow Mussman so they can post it?

Ironically, if Mussman and staff had done anything over the past 5+ years, we wouldn't be in a position to have an "embarrassing" article written by Schloss (who is a top notch reporter/writer and doesn't SUCK at his job)

He's all pissed of at Schlossman for publishing the article. W.T.F.

Q: What is the difference between the McComas and Mussman regimes?

A: The side of the Alerus scoreboard to add a third digit to.
