Shawn-O Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 You also realize Jones was an assistant coach at a Big Ten school before coming to UND. He was director or BB ops, no X's and O's. Quote
Cratter Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Could he have been doing both? I see that was his title on the Iowa site but it also says he was "assistant coach." Who names there director of basketball operations an "assistant coach"? http://www.hawkeyesports.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/jones_brian00.html Quote
siouxfan68 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Is there any news on the volleyball coach position? I believe the posting closed last weekend. Does anyone have an updated list of applicants? Quote
Dustin Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Not that this means anything, but I did see Dan Brown at the men's BB game last week (Thursday, I think), so I'm guessing he's gonna use any chance he can to make an impression on the AD. Quote
dmksioux Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Since the search was opened up nationally, one would think this means that he won't get the job...at least the head coaching job. Quote
zonadub Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Since the search was opened up nationally, one would think this means that he won't get the job...at least the head coaching job. may have said the same about Schweigert in the national football search... Quote
dmksioux Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Technically Schwiegert was a national search. This is more along the lines when Mussman was named Coach. No need to open it up outside of an internal posting. Why go through all the extra work, reviewing apps, point process, etc if you plan to hire internally. Only way I see Brown being hired is if there aren't any other qualified applicants. Quote
siouxgrad Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 At the Fargo luncheon it was mentioned that there were 3 candidates that would be interviewed. No details on who the 3 are. Quote
UND Fan Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 With school back in session, do we know if all the "important" underclass(ladies) are back? Quote
undvbparent Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 With school back in session, do we know if all the "important" underclass(ladies) are back? Individual workouts so far includes ALL starters from the EOY tournament minus one back row player Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 Individual workouts so far includes ALL starters from the EOY tournament minus one back row player Left or recovering from injury? Quote
undvbparent Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Left or recovering from injury? Transferring, that is all information players received. Quote
UND Fan Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Transferring, that is all information players received. Are you preferring not to disclose which player it is? If so, I understand - hope it isn't your daughter! Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted January 21, 2014 Author Posted January 21, 2014 My assumption of back row means its either a libero or a DS. Quote
undvbparent Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Transferring, that is all information players received. Are you preferring not to disclose which player it is? If so, I understand - hope it isn't your daughter! Not my darling daughter ;-) NOt sure if I can disclose the name...but it is a freshman DS. Quote
Dagger Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 What is the vibe around the volleyball team? Are the players excited for a new coach? Quote
UND Fan Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Not my darling daughter ;-) NOt sure if I can disclose the name...but it is a freshman DS. I realize you are in a tough position - we appreciate whatever insight you can provide from time-to-time. Quote
undvbparent Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 What is the vibe around the volleyball team? Are the players excited for a new coach? The girls are all ready for a new coach They are excited for the Spring Season! From my daughters eyes, they all worked hard over break to impress the new regime. Quote
Dustin Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 So, we've been told that the search is down to 3. Who do you think the 3 are? The former Ole Miss coach (Joe Getzin) had some good seasons: 3 NCAA tournament appearences, twice named SEC coach of the year. But his last three seasons were all losing records. Utah State assitant coach (Jeremy Lawson) has been around a winning program at USU, and also was a member of a National Championship BYU men's team in 2001. I don't know who the third choice would be, but upper midwest connections seem to be lacking on that list, which is too bad. Someone mentioned that Dan Brown was not one of the finalists, though I thought he served UND well during his time with Hardee. Quote
MadScout03 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 ^^^While sitting in the airport waiting to find out when my new flight will be, I saw a guy in Utah St garb talking on the phone. Just saw him again...definitely Jeremiah Larsen from USU. Quote
jjensen Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I think Mark Pryor would be a decent hire who would be able to bring in good players to is competitive. I also think J.T. Wenger would be good but he might just use it as a stepping stone. Tami Audia has a lot of experience with some big time teams too. If Jeremiah Larsen does get it we would quickly be one of the top defensive teams in the county. But would are offense struggle a bit is the question. I think there is a lot of great candidates though and it would be hard to make a bad hire Quote
siouxfan68 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Interesting, when I went through the partial list a week or so ago, I wrote down these three names - Mark Pryor, Jeremiah Larsen, and J.T. Wenger. Quote
jjensen Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 There is a solid quality of lesser names coaches that would do well. I just feel one of those three would be the best. Pryor will bring in another level of recruits but also has a good track record with head coaching. Larson will bring in players and we will be very very strong defensively. USU is one of the best last year and it's his responsibility there. Wenger is the most interesting. He is young and played very competitive volleyball in college. Quote
Risky Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I hope it isn't Yager that transferred out. Quote
jjensen Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Both Yager and Hollis still show up in the directories so they both are at und. But that doesn't mean they are still with the team. Quote
