SiouxVolley
http://www.baseballa...13/2614637.html The Horizon League is down to five members in baseball this year. It needs six soon. Maybe UND can get an invite there. Guess Oakland has baseball, so the Summit might have to take in UND baseball to survive. The Horizon finds itself in jeopardy of losing its NCAA playoff bid because it is one team short of the six required for automatic-qualifying status. Butler left for the Atlantic-10 a year earlier than expected, reacting to news that the Horizon didn't plan on allowing the Bulldogs to compete in any conference tournaments or for any league championships in their final year. Oakland, currently part of the Summit League, has expressed interested in joining the Horizon, which has two more seasons to add another team before losing its automatic bid. As for UND they should join the Summit. No point in playing NJIT or Chicago State. Lets play teams closer to home than the east coast. The Sicatoka
Is this important to UND Baseball? DENVER—The Western Athletic Conference announced today that an invitation for affiliate membership has been issued to and accepted by North Dakota to join the conference in baseball starting with the 2013-14 academic year. http://www.wacsports...TCLID=206351462

UNDvince97-01
Great news. WAC, no Summit. I commented on this in the Conference Realignment thread also, but in the short term, I think this is a good thing. UND has a conference home for baseball finally. In the long term, The Summit would have been the better option IMO because of travel expenses, rivalries and budgets etc. It's too bad The Summit has a totally inept commissioner running their conference, otherwise an invite to UNC and UND for baseball would have happened 2 years ago. Douple is a total fail.

Bad deal for the Summit baseball teams to not add some stability to the baseball league.

Bad deal for the Summit baseball teams to not add some stability to the baseball league. They are stuck with 5 DI teams (until Omaha becomes a full DI member). So hello WAC!!!! bincitysioux
Is this important to UND Baseball? http://www.wacsports...TCLID=206351462 Well, I'm happy that the baseball team will now have access to the NCAA tournament. But I still think they'd be far better off diverting all those resources to football and basketball. Sorry, baseball fans...................

Bad deal for the Summit baseball teams to not add some stability to the baseball league. All the Dakota's were lobbying to get UND into the Summit baseball league. I don't know if it was UND officials or Summit officials that weren't receptive. Hugh travel cost for your baseball team in the WAC.

GeauxSioux
UND accepted into WAC for baseball The Summit League, which includes North Dakota State and South Dakota State, was one option for UND baseball. But that option never materialized. “We had applied for the Summit but I never heard anything personally from them,” Dodson said.
UND-1
I see Douple is up to his old tricks again: Asked about UND and baseball affiliation with the Summit, Douple said it was “discussed among some members” but “(UND) hadn’t indicated anything.” It has been proven in articles that UND formally applied to the Summit but never heard back or were unformally told that they were not getting in. It is pretty obvious to all that UND wanted in the Summit for baseball due to geography and that SDSU, NDSU and Omaha also wanted them in badly. We play in the Great West? No autobid whatsoever. Either Douple is a total moron (which I think he is) or he sucks at his job at communicating that UND will need a home for baseball and the SL would be attractive with regional competition and an AQ bid. Or C....A &B.
homer
He must be fairly confident Oakland is sticking around. The AQ for those other teams hinges on a college that has not hid the fact that they want to leave the conference. The Summit would have been nice for baseball, but we have a conference with a AQ. You know it could be that Dodson meant he applied to the Summit for baseball affiliation a short time after UND accepted the Big Sky invitation. That would make sense. In October of 2010, UND was about to accept membership in the Summit, which would have solved baseball's conference problem. UND cancelled the visit at the last minute, and joined the Big Sky, leaving baseball in limbo. Dodson could have applied for affiliate membership with the SL, the most logical option, shortly thereafter. We all know about the flame war that took place in the media between Kelley, Faison, and Douple after UND dumped the Summit. Of course the Summit probably wasn't going to respond to Dodson and UND at that point. When Douple made his collusion allegations against UND a year later, Faison said in his rebuttal that he hadn't spoken with Douple in months.
