jimdahl Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 An old topic, but a new article... FCS expansion on fasttrack It is no longer a matter of if the Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoffs will go to 24 teams. A leading voice in the proposal said Tuesday it’s a matter of when. Quote

JohnboyND7 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 This is a terrible idea. 20 is a good number. If you watched any of the FCS playoffs, it was pretty easy to see that some of those teams really didn't deserve to be there. Make the regular season matter. Quote

This year maybe, but two years ago did the last team in not deserve to be there? 4 Quote
nodakvindy Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I'd rather have a non-deserving team in than leave deserving teams out. And the regular season matters plenty, look at how the seeded teams did. Home field is huge. 1 Quote

Just means more football to watch in the late fall..................... Quote
jodcon Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Maybe they should expand the field to 32 or 48 then they could include all the .500 teams like the FBS does. Quote
jdub27 Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 ***"Friends to the south excuse alert"*** "Well, at least we won it all BEFORE they expanded the field the second time." Fixed it for you. The playoff field was expanded from 16 to 20 in 2010. Quote

geaux_sioux Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I'm sure they will just look at the further expanded playoff feild as more chumps to invite for a Fargo Dome playoff beat down like they did in the 90's...... Quote
forumcrew Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Some pretty good jealousy going on in this thread, I love it. Quote
Cratter Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Some pretty good jealousy going on in this thread, I love it. You think this is jealousy. You should have read Bisonville in the early 2000's. Quote
mg2009 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 only about 90 teams actually participate in playoff-eligible conferences (swac, ivy, pioneer do not) even among those schools, a large portion don't take it seriously. My thought has been the playing for a title is a privilege, not a right. going 4-4 in conference and beating 3 scrubs you paid to come to your home field shouldn't get you in the playoffs. For that matter, I think you should have to win your conference to win a national title. I'd like to see it go back to 12, or better yet, 8. Quote

The Pioneer will probably receive an auto bid with the expansion. Quote
Bison_Kent Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Yes, PFL should get an auto bid. To be honest, the PFL is much better than the NEC, who did get an autobid when the field was converted from 16 to 20. The Big South Conference was the other conference to get an autobid at that time. The PFL and NEC used to have their champions play each other for about 4 years and the PFL champion won 3 of the 4 games. Both conference teams, however, will continue to have tough times against the top FCS teams. But like has been mentioned earlier, the NCAA basketball tournament has #16 seeds that don't have much of a chance against the #1 seeds yet they still get a chance. Quote
