Like this quote:

"I honestly did not think I'd like (UND) when I visited", she said, "but the coach is great and I love hockey."

Her original plans involved heading to an East Coast school because she didn't want to deal with cold weather, but UND surprised her.

We need more power attackers and blockers!

Welcome and congrats, Ashley.

I would guess recruiting for 2015 is done or close to done.  Pryor has all the tools he needs now to fill the gaps.

Fraase - Plays middle at Shanley, but I think Pryor will move her to outside since I read a year ago that she has been working on all facets of the game, which means she should be able to dig.

Mattson - Plays setter at Grand Rapids.  She will back up Griffin.

Spacek - Plays middle for Orono, and I think Pryor keeps her there.

Dominguez - Plays defensive specialist

Place - She will play OH.

These freshmen (though probably not Mattson) should be able to push for playing time right away.  I see some very good competition amongst teammates for regular spots in the lineup.  But that also means we should have very competent back-ups, too.  The key to success next year will be setting.  Nikki Husfeldt will go down as a legend in this program.

Found this article in the Worthington Daily Globe regarding a recent letter of intent signee Courtney Place.

http://www.dglobe.com/content/signing-day-place-chooses-und

Here's a Youtube video of a radio station interview with Courtney.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6qJc6i6pRo

At the 7:30 mark, she talks about why she chose UND.  She just loved it when she visited and felt it was the right fit.

She could have played basketball, or gone to some higher majors for volleyball like Ole Miss,

She must know a number of her future teammates, especially Griffin who is from Marshall.

In the newspaper article, it states she's a senior, but in the video, it states she's a junior. I wonder which is correct?

That interview was in March 2014, when she was a junior.  We missed knowing about her commitment for over 8 months.

That's astonishing in this day and age.

Looks like we've really been able recruit some height in the last two classes.

Agree on that, haven't seen a OH/MB that has been under 6'.  It will be nice to have when we have to deal with some of the taller teams in the conference.

The Place girl is really good, one of the better player to come out of Heron Lake-Okabena (for any of the older posters from or used to be from the SW Minnesota area, the former Southwest Star Concept).  Strong volleyball program, but always in one of the toughest sections of the state in their class (section 3A, which perennial powers Minneota, historically strong programs in Tracy-Milroy-Balaton and Central Minnesota Christian.)

I do agree that next season will depend on the setter... fortunately, I think Griffin will step in and fill Nikki's shoes just fine.

Looks like UND got a commit from Chloe Dousette out of St. Paul for 2016.  6'2" Outside hitter from Cretin-Derham.

Ashley Brueggeman a 2016 recruit from San Antonio, TX.  6'1" MH/OH from Warren High School

Brueggeman moved from San Antonio to Eden Prairie - see posts 101 and 102 of this thread.

Agree about Courtney Place. Also Fraase from Shanley will likely be a significant freshman contributor.

Signing class announced.  Per UNDSports.com

University of North Dakota head volleyball coach Mark Pryor announced six student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent for Fall 2015. Grace Bettenga (Edina, Minn.), Ashley Denae Dominguez (San Antonio, Texas), Alivia Fraase (Fargo, N.D.), Sidney Mattson (Grand Rapids, Minn.), Courtney Place (Okabena, Minn.) and Julia Spacek (Long Lake, Minn.) have all committed to UND and will enroll in the Fall of 2015.

I just realized how young the team will be next year.  By my count: 4 seniors, 1 junior, 4 sophomores, and 6 freshmen.  2 of the seniors have hardly played.  We also lost would-be upperclassmen in Pioske and Thompson.  Good back row ball control, though.  If Griffin can set to all those (tall) hitters, it should be fun to watch.

Are all of these girls solid commitments? Eight new players coming in? Seems high? Any other current players leaving that were not previously listed here? Do coaches have to honor previous coaches commitments? Lot of questions - sorry.
