ozahs Posted March 29, 2011 Share Posted March 29, 2011 My humble recommendations - You have to try a Juicy Lucy when in town: Matt's Bar and 5-8 have both been mentioned, good Juicy Lucys can also be found at Blue Door Pub Sham-Rocks - On West 7th in St Paul My favorite restaurant is a tie between: Redstone Axels Other great places include: Broder's Pasta Bar Gasthof - featured on "Man Vs Food", very fun place Fogo de Chao If you are at Mall of America, the best places are: Twin Cities Grill Tucci-Benucch Cossettas is best saved for non-game days, it gets nuts in there. Micky's Diner is close to the venue, and is open late. Good "greasy spoon" type food, no booze. I've not eaten any other meal there and have not eaten at any of the other Key Resturants. If you're looking for a shiny, new Perkins style kitchen, this ain't it. If you willing to spend $20-40 bucks a plate you cant get any better. Usually is a jacket and tie type place but they don't care during the hockey tournaments. I ate there during the final five both this year and last year and I will be doing the same next year every time wearing my black Sioux jersey. You may have noticed all the posts about places to watch games and this is a leader for showing the games when not on regular tv. I can't recall how many Sioux Bison football games I have seen here. PLUS the food is really good. If you like a good steak or prime rib, it is a great place for that. It is a family friendly bar so kids are most definitly welcome. If you are a sioux fan and want to support a place that shows support for us when we are in need of a place to watch the team. Here is the place. Any resturant recommendations with a good menu for both would be greatly appreciated! She's a good sport but usually has little or nothing to eat when we go out. I think I was at Bunkers once, younger crowd place packed tight on weekends with live music? If it's the place I'm thinking about the cops came through while we were there counting people (for capacity I suppose). After 42 years here I would like to offer some options that are cost effective, close by, and good quality. Most if not all within a mile or so of the Xcel. Do not bother eating in Minneapolis unless you have a specific reason to do so. Here are just a sampling of what St Paul has to offer. Joseph's Grill just across river from downtown, breakfast, lunch, dinner, not fancy Mancini's char house just west of Xcel about a mile, great steaks, not fancy Savoy Pizza east of downtown, not if you are in a hurry though Yarusso's previously mentioned Downtowner Woodfire grill just west of Xcel Mo' s Burgers same Forepaugh's (upscale French just west & south of the Xcel, expensive and you will need resv and time) St Paul Grill on Rice park, pricey, but great, resv and time Pazzaluna, upscale Italian downtown walk to Xcel McGoverns Pub The Liffey Tom Reid's Several places around Mears park on downtown east side, but area is torn up for the light rail On Grand Ave west of downtown are: La Cucharacha, Mexican Dixies on Grand, Cajun and southern D'amico and sons, Italian Lexington, upscale supper club Everest, Indian and Tibetan food Salut, plus others On Selby near Cathedral Fabulous Fern's Moscow on the Hill W A Frost plus others Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In St. Paul: Highland Grill on the corner of Ford Parkway and Cleveland Ave is really good the Groveland Tap on Saint Clair Ave is good. Also, if you are in the mood. Snuffy's which is on the corner of Cleveland Ave and Saint Clair Ave has really good handmade malts. Really, that is all that I have because I don't go much further than there. Best Coney Islands, and coldest beer, around. Roughly 6th and Wacouta I believe. Also Kelley's Family Bar and Restaurant. Great hole in the wall. Straight down Kellogg to the east. Past the post office on the opposite side of the road. Another healthy walk, but doable. Also Station 4. 4th and Sibley. Great frozen pizzas and cheap beer. Also, a chance to see a national headbanging act doing their sound check. Ask for Steve. Or Dawn. Tell him DaCook sent you. All three places will be on the outer fringes of the rabid crowds. They make the best char-broiled garlic toast (dark and light bread) that you will ever taste. It's only about a mile down the road from the X Center (going west on SW 7th St).
