ozahs Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 My humble recommendations - You have to try a Juicy Lucy when in town: Matt's Bar and 5-8 have both been mentioned, good Juicy Lucys can also be found at Blue Door Pub Sham-Rocks - On West 7th in St Paul My favorite restaurant is a tie between: Redstone Axels Other great places include: Broder's Pasta Bar Gasthof - featured on "Man Vs Food", very fun place Fogo de Chao If you are at Mall of America, the best places are: Twin Cities Grill Tucci-Benucch Cossettas is best saved for non-game days, it gets nuts in there. Micky's Diner is close to the venue, and is open late. Good "greasy spoon" type food, no booze. Alery's is down the street from Micky's, the local cop bar, great fun especially after 9:00PM but no food worth mentioning. Quote
CAS4127 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Well, it looks as though you can each have your very own place to eat if you spread out! Quote
Sioux-cia Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Keys Resturant on Roberts St. in St. Paul has a fantastic breakfast, large portions and reasonable prices. I've not eaten any other meal there and have not eaten at any of the other Key Resturants. If you're looking for a shiny, new Perkins style kitchen, this ain't it. It's actually dumpy looking but I wouldn't miss it! Quote
bisonh8er Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 By far the best restaurant I've eaten at in St. Paul is Kincaid's. Mabey a block away from the X. If you willing to spend $20-40 bucks a plate you cant get any better. But be ready it fills up pretty quick. map- http://www.kincaids.com/Shared/Controls/LocationBasedControls/page/location menu- http://www.kincaids.com/page/menu/74973#menu!74973!Beef!ctl00_PageContent_MyMenu_rptMenu_ctl02_rptMenuCategory_ctl03_liControl I strongly suggest the Char-Grilled Sirloin Chateau if you like steak. And the best appetizer you will ever have is definitely the grilled beef tenderloins. Melt in your mouth type food. Little pricey but well worth it if your looking for a really good meal. Usually is a jacket and tie type place but they don't care during the hockey tournaments. I ate there during the final five both this year and last year and I will be doing the same next year every time wearing my black Sioux jersey. Quote
ringneck28 Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 One place that I personally am going to visit because of the Sioux games they show is Joe Sensor's. You may have noticed all the posts about places to watch games and this is a leader for showing the games when not on regular tv. I can't recall how many Sioux Bison football games I have seen here. PLUS the food is really good. If you like a good steak or prime rib, it is a great place for that. It is a family friendly bar so kids are most definitly welcome. If you are a sioux fan and want to support a place that shows support for us when we are in need of a place to watch the team. Here is the place. Quote
Sioux-cia Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 My daughtet in law is a vegan. The rest of us are carnivors. Any resturant recommendations with a good menu for both would be greatly appreciated! She's a good sport but usually has little or nothing to eat when we go out. They live in Mpls and have taken me to an Indian resturant but I'm not a fan of Indian food. Quote

jodcon Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Bunkers Music Bar and Grill in Minneapolis is fun, good food and stiff drinks. I think I was at Bunkers once, younger crowd place packed tight on weekends with live music? If it's the place I'm thinking about the cops came through while we were there counting people (for capacity I suppose). Didn't know they had food but it was a hopping place, college crowd would love it. Quote

I've never been there, but I understand it caters to vegan and natural food crowds. Quote

jimdahl Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Hard Times Cafe - www.hardtimes.com - 1821 Riverside Avenue, Minneapolis - (612) 341-9261 I was baffled by this for a second, not having thought that Hard Times Cafe had spread outside DC... but apparently it hasn't. There is a Hard Times Café in Minneapolis, unrelated to the popular D.C.-area chili parlor linked above. Quote

Ole in MSP Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 After reading some of the posts on here it is obvious most of you are not familiar with St Paul or the restaurant scene here. After 42 years here I would like to offer some options that are cost effective, close by, and good quality. Most if not all within a mile or so of the Xcel. Do not bother eating in Minneapolis unless you have a specific reason to do so. Here are just a sampling of what St Paul has to offer. Joseph's Grill just across river from downtown, breakfast, lunch, dinner, not fancy Mancini's char house just west of Xcel about a mile, great steaks, not fancy Savoy Pizza east of downtown, not if you are in a hurry though Yarusso's previously mentioned Downtowner Woodfire grill just west of Xcel Mo' s Burgers same Forepaugh's (upscale French just west & south of the Xcel, expensive and you will need resv and time) St Paul Grill on Rice park, pricey, but great, resv and time Pazzaluna, upscale Italian downtown walk to Xcel McGoverns Pub The Liffey Tom Reid's Several places around Mears park on downtown east side, but area is torn up for the light rail On Grand Ave west of downtown are: La Cucharacha, Mexican Dixies on Grand, Cajun and southern D'amico and sons, Italian Lexington, upscale supper club Everest, Indian and Tibetan food Salut, plus others On Selby near Cathedral Fabulous Fern's Moscow on the Hill W A Frost plus others Quote

Common Roots is really good and NOT a vegan restaurant, just has options for everyone. French Meadow is right next door. It is really close to my work so if you guys want to go there Friday I'll meet you! For drunk food, I like the Uptowner, which is not too far from the X. The Cajun Breakfast is subliiiiiiiiiiiime. siouxforeverbaby Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Also at the MOA: Crave has had fairly good reviews lately. In St. Paul: Highland Grill on the corner of Ford Parkway and Cleveland Ave is really good the Groveland Tap on Saint Clair Ave is good. Also, if you are in the mood. Snuffy's which is on the corner of Cleveland Ave and Saint Clair Ave has really good handmade malts. Really, that is all that I have because I don't go much further than there. All of the restaurants in St. Paul are within fifteen minutes driving of the X. Quote

That sounds good. Karen just replied to my PM about the other resturant and she said she loved it but all the veggies were not good for Rob's digestive system. Damn, who would have thought I'd have a kid old enough to worry about his digestive system. Go figure!! Quote
NorthDakotaHockey Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 The Gopher Bar. Not to be confused as a Gophers bar. Lowertown Saint Paul. I healthy, but doable walk, from the arena. Best Coney Islands, and coldest beer, around. Roughly 6th and Wacouta I believe. Also Kelley's Family Bar and Restaurant. Great hole in the wall. Straight down Kellogg to the east. Past the post office on the opposite side of the road. Another healthy walk, but doable. Also Station 4. 4th and Sibley. Great frozen pizzas and cheap beer. Also, a chance to see a national headbanging act doing their sound check. Ask for Steve. Or Dawn. Tell him DaCook sent you. All three places will be on the outer fringes of the rabid crowds. Finally, in Roseville, just north, The Ol' Mexico. O Quote
Old Barn Guy at Home Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Mancini's Char House on SW 7th St. is a great place to have a steak or sea food. They make the best char-broiled garlic toast (dark and light bread) that you will ever taste. It's only about a mile down the road from the X Center (going west on SW 7th St). A filet mignon meal will go for about $25. Quote
SooToo Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Since a lot of people are going to the games and are not really familiar with the metro and where to eat here are some suggestions. Bar La Grassa (make reservations today for that weekend) http://www.barlagrassa.com/ Al Vento http://www.alventorestaurant.com/ Saigon (University Ave. St. Paul) http://www.yelp.com/biz/saigon-restaurant-and-bakery-st-paul (try the bahn mi which are Vietnamese subs and pho with meatballs) Lucia's (tried and true) http://www.lucias.com http://www.photaubay.us/ Rinata http://www.rinatarestaurant.com D'Amico's http://www.damicoandsons.com/ Luci Ancora http://www.ristoranteluci.com/ Taqueria Los Ocampo http://www.losocampo.com/ (not the Red Pepper or Paradiso) Taqueria La Hacienda http://www.taqueriaslahacienda.com/ Pineda Tacos 311 E Lake St (real dive but great food) Adelita's http://www.adelitasmexicanrestaurant.com/ (pork in adobo sauce yum. They also have a bakery up the street about 20 blocks that is really good) Remember one thing about these places. They are not the Olive Garden, Red Pepper, or Paradiso. Gee I wonder what three types of food I like best? PS If any questions PM me. Stay away from Cossetas. thanks for the suggestions. Quote
