Swanson with a great start to his World Jr A Challenge tourney...3 assists, all primary against Slovakia today.
James Reeder got the goals on all three assists...a DU commit...let's get Berry to have him swap his commitment, as those two obviously have chemistry already.  :)

Swanson continues strong play at the World Jr A Challenge:

Quote

UND recruit Mac Swanson is lighting it up at the World Junior A Challenge in Nova Scotia.

The forward, who plays for the Fargo Force, is tied as the tournament's leading scorer with seven points in three games. He had two goals and an assist in a 5-1 win over Canada West on Thursday. Swanson was named the player of the game.

UND defenseman commit Andrew Strathmann and goalie commit Caleb Heil also are on Team USA.

Warroad's Hampton Slukynsky, a goalie committed to Northern Michigan, has been strong for the Americans, posting a .903 save percentage and a 2.00 goals-against average in three starts.

The team is coached by former UND captain Matt Smaby.

Thoughts about our commits so far this season? Is anyone well above or below expectations? I’ll hang up and listen.

I can’t think of anyone exceeding expectations…most are doing fine. There are a couple that seem to be struggling at the junior level again.

From the few USHL games I've watched, I'd say Emery is improving the most quickly. He could be our best defensive D his freshman year. Gap control is really good, doesnt hit but with his size and how the nchc treated kleven that might be a good thing. Other than potentially Strathmann, the 03-05 group doesn't appear likely to have any gamebreakers at any position.

I was more hopeful Boisvert would be an instant impact player going into this year than after watching a few games. Despite his great hands and wristshot, at his size and without notable speed he might be stymied his freshman year like perron has been.

The HS guys seem to have been labeled to have lots of potential, but I don't know enough to be able to tell just how good they are when their competition is so variable.

K McCinnis to the AJHL. Great for his development, USHL seemed to be a bit much for him. He’s young though. Also coming off a bad injury last year. It’s his draft year so heading north and having some success is huge for him.

Hopefully he can get some confidence and get back on track.  I remember he was pretty highly touted when he committed.

UND defenseman commit Keith McInnis will play the rest of this season for the Brooks Bandits in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

McInnis had been playing for Waterloo in the United States Hockey League.

He struggled to get traction after missing almost all of last season with an injury. McInnis had two assists in 24 games this season.

“They were good. I thought they defended well,” Berry said of Emery and Laurila. “They're getting a lot of experience, too, as they go here. They're playing a lot of NCAA teams, a lot of USHL teams. Their growth and development over the last couple of years has been really good.”

At the end of the game in the handshake line, Berry had an extended conversation with Emery.

“He said I played good,” Emery said, “and he's excited to have me next year.”
