Popular Post brianvf Posted July 1 Popular Post Posted July 1 Verhoeff officially signed his aid package, so the coaching staff can comment on him now: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/schlossman-how-dane-jackson-became-sold-on-keaton-verhoeff-coming-to-college-at-age-17 I guess we can thank MacDonald leaving early for us landing Verhoeff. Quote UND assistant coach Dillon Simpson first raised the idea to head coach Dane Jackson. Simpson said Keaton Verhoeff, a 16-year-old defenseman in the Western Hockey League, had accelerated his education and could play college hockey in 2025-26. Simpson thought UND could try to recruit Verhoeff to fill the void left by Caleb MacDonald, who signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets after his sophomore season. Quote "When he mentioned to me there was a kid who was an '08 (birthday) and eligible to play college hockey, my mind went right away to. . . 'This does not seem like a very good idea with how hard college hockey is,'" Jackson said. But then Jackson dug in. He watched several games on video. "I was like, 'Wow, this kid physically can do it. He's strong. He's smart. He's not just an athlete. He's smart and he's poised. He's got those qualities,'" Jackson said. Then, Jackson spoke with Verhoeff. "When you talk to him, you realize the presence, sharpness, poise and professionalism," Jackson said. "It reminds you of Jake Sanderson and guys like that. Then it starts to become, 'OK, yep, this kid can do it.'" 3 4 Quote

He makes it clear that he’s in no rush to make the jump to professional hockey until his game is rounded out. Seems pretty mature with a good head on his shoulders. Thankfully it looks like we could have him for at least 2 years, especially since he’s smaller than most guys in the big show. 2 2 Quote

They kind of have to be tbh…their mgmt is getting raked over the coals with their offseason moves so far…including the Marchand move itself. They had all the cap and they’ve basically signed a bunch of 4th liners. They needed scoring and have gotten none. Might as well trade pasta for the future. 2 Quote

If they have another year like last year both Neely and Sweeney are gone, which will likely be the case. Quote

These two haven't lit it up on the free agency pickups yet, either. (Obviously, there's not a lot of big names out there this year, either). Reading comments on X, I think the fanbase, me included is starting to tire with the way the team is going. 1 Quote

Popular Post brianvf Posted July 4 Popular Post Posted July 4 Ha, this is gold. More Tampa magic! The story on the day Reschny and Verhoeff committed: https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/how-unds-staff-learned-about-cole-reschny-and-keaton-verhoeffs-commitments Quote They finally returned to Tampa in May, as tourists, along with some teammates from the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Frozen Four teams. That group gets together every spring. They decided to go to the special destination this year for a couple rounds of golf and camaraderie. New head coach Dane Jackson, who was the associate head coach on the title team, joined them for part of it. They were out at a seaside restaurant one Thursday night when Jackson's phone rang. It was elite prospect Cole Reschny calling. Jackson stepped away from the table to take the call. Chyzyk, now the team's general manager, closely watched Jackson's every movement, waiting for his body language to indicate whether it was a good call or a bad call. Jackson kept a poker face. Quote On the ride home from the restaurant, Jackson got another call. This one was from top defenseman prospect Keaton Verhoeff. Verhoeff, a potential top-five pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, delivered the same news as Reschny. He's coming to UND. The new UND staff, two months into the job, had pulled off perhaps the biggest recruiting day in program history. They landed two potential NHL first-round picks on the same day — players who will impact not only the 2025-26 team but future recruiting as well. When they got back to the rental place, Chyzyk was so excited, he cannonballed into the pool with his clothes on as his old teammates cheered. 3 5 Quote
brianvf Posted July 5 Posted July 5 2027 Draft preview lists commit McKamey: https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/2027-nhl-draft-20-players-you-need-to-know-landon-dupont-alexis-joseph Quote The Royals might have lost Cole Reschny, but McKamey should give them at least some of the offense back next year. He had a decent year with the Penticton Vees of the BCHL, but the WHL is going to be a whole different story. The Univ. of North Dakota commit blends speed, skill and hockey sense to win games. McKamey needs to add some more muscle, but I have no doubt he’ll be a threat every single night in Victoria next year. 1 Quote

brianvf Posted Thursday at 06:20 AM Posted Thursday at 06:20 AM Nice article from the Bruins website with Zellers: https://www.nhl.com/bruins/news/from-the-beginning-zellers-had-eyes-set-on-hockey Quote There is, of course, plenty of work to do if Zellers is to pull the Spoked-B over this chest someday. The first step will come this fall as he kicks off his freshman campaign at the University of North Dakota, a place that holds a special place in the hearts of the Zellers family. “Our family, generations have attended the university and so we’re super excited for him to be there and watch him play,” said Kim Zellers. “It’s been a dream of his since before he could walk. We’re just really excited, super proud and looking forward to this season to see what he can do.” 2 2 Quote
