absolutely. Or even take it a step further and from the very get go eliminate names that didn't meet criteria and talk about why some names do meet the criteria so all would understand. You know, actually have a discussion rather than raising their hand every once in awhile for a name they personally liked.

those without internet were given other options- I don't recall how it was planned, but accommodations were made.

120 continuous hours to click a mouse 3 times to register a vote....and yet some didn't have time??? we need to get a preposterous statement tournament started on this website. furthermore, if they don't have that " much time"or they are "too removed" as you say, then that answers the question- They don't care enough to vote, those that cared, voted, and the results are what they are.

Yes, it does seem extremely unfair and unreasonable to have age discrimination based voting. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. And as I stated, the numbers don't lie.

students are roughly 20% of the eligible voters. Giving 80% of the eligible voters potential "extra" votes would've been viewed as grossly unfair. The frustration with the students for the outcome doesn't add up. Literally.

I agree. I don't see any giddyness. I see either acceptance, or the early stages of grief. Just like the no nicknamers were told to move on, the Roughriders diehards will need to do the same. But it will take some time. Go Hawks!!

I don't think a couple of students panicking while asked questions in front of thousands is a fair representation of the entire student body's intelligence. I'm just glad they know their North Dakota history, given their voting tendencies. current students are I'm guessing about 20% of the eligible voting pool. blame your fellow alumni if you feel the need to complain about the results.

I heard Stenehjem is already on the phone, talking to the two closest flocks of hawks....seeing when they can schedule a vote to hopefully get their approval.

i think the problem is there weren't any choices that met all those criteria. Plus, a lot of those points the committee came up with are purely opinions or silly. That's why I voted Nodaks in the hopes something representative of UND and ND could've evolved. Let's try the same exercise for Roughriders: Representative of state/region (Nope, Roughriders are either horseback riders from anywhere on earth, or else Teddy's southwestern US cavalry)Honor past/look to future (Nope, Roughriders were not from here. Unless we want to honor an award started in the 1960s. exactly. And I'm welcoming the choice of Hawks with open arms, instead of coming up with asinine ideas of why Hawks received more votes than my choice, I would encourage everyone else to do the same, as it will be our new name.

IMO yes. i see hawks all over the place, every day in North Dakota. I'm confused; wouldn't the men be the Lady Riders?

I feel there has to be more to it than just being unique. Roughriders may be unique to college sports but that doesn't automatically make it a great choice in my mind. I voted Nodaks. I felt it was the only choice remaining that, depending on how they used the name and what the logo was, could be linked to a source of pride at UND and the state. Roughriders would be a contrived name and would not create any extra enthusiasm on campus compared to Hawks IMO. there's nothing Roughrider about UND. the only time I saw a 10 gallon hat and (ass)chaps on campus was at a Halloween party years ago... to me, if we were to go with a human-based mascot/logo , it would have to fit into the atmosphere and culture of the campus. Roughriders just doesn't fit the bill IMO. this is UND, not Bonanzaville. I don't care how many times I hear "we are the Roughrider state", it's a silly, inaccurate nickname for the state that no one I know takes seriously. So for those reasons, and for the much less important reasons of it's a condom, it's two guys doing it as described by urban dictionary, it will be shortened to "Ridas" which IMO sounds asinine, and lastly it's the name of the local high school, i choose not to vote for roughriders. Yes, Hawks is popular. But fighting hawks, with a great logo design and strong support from the student body will be successful IMO.
