nope. that one's taken. but something very similar will do just fine.
-
If the new logo looks like a hawk and not a man with feathers in his hair, we will be fine.
-
I feel the need to point out you are comparing apples and oranges here. Or more like apples and lasagna. William and Mary was told they could keep their name as the Tribe if they got rid of any Native American imagery. They could still be a tribe, just not a Native American tribe. If Fighting Hawks is chosen, UND will have complied by changing their name. And, a fun fact for the kids listening at home, hawks are birds with feathers. The NCAA would not prohibit UND from putting feathers on a bird. No other school that has complied by changing their name to a bird has been prohibited from having birds donning feathers as part of their logos or mascots.

well if ya can't beat 'em, adjoin 'em?
-
your assertion is its a big deal because if that "exact" logo is not usable, people would change their minds and vote Roughriders. Otherwise you wouldn't complain about it. Nobody knows for sure what a Roughriders logo would look like, but I bet Roughriders voters have an idea of what they would like it to be. If they found out the new logo was not going to be exactly what they had pictured, would they change their vote? Of course not.
-
(sigh) because the words "exact", and "similar", have different meanings.
-
exactly. The pressure will be there from the students to design a logo that is similar.
-
...says the guy who just claimed "a solid 50%" are basing their vote on the logo floating around. good one.
-
I haven't seen any of what you claim, either. I just find it funny that Roughriders supporters are the only group of voters going back to the 5 finalists that feel the need to justify and explain away using their own personal opinions, why other people voted the way they did, and why they are wrong.
-
I had 5,000 people tell me they're voting for roughriders based on the unusable logo siouxfan97 has displayed. Otherwise, they think the name roughriders totally sucks ass and would change their minds in a heartbeat and vote fighting hawks if they only knew. if you think this sounds ridiculous, look in the mirror, conspiracy theorists.
-
exactly. It's been quite entertaining to observe the ever changing thoughts and ideas of some in the roughrider crowd.
-
and people that know the results of this poll are irrelevant, so they don't bother. $100 on fighting Hawks. Any takers?
-
What's Kelly smoking. At least it's soon over with. I was in the pool.

Roughriders? It Doesn't Even Really make Sense
-
I'm glad they put this in the paper. I predict this will change somewhere between 1 and 3 people's minds. I also predict people will still whine about students being uninformed, somehow convincing themselves the students would've completely changed their minds and voted for Roughriders if they had only known an exact copy of a certain logo of a hawk could not be used.

Please, not another runoff...

Give him some time- he just ate the cereal.

virtually all the cavalries at the time had that flag, slightly modified. it's the Great Seal of the United States. Too bad there's a bird on it. we could save money on buying merchandise and just hold up and wave our Passports every time we score.
-
haven't you heard that the bird is the word? <cues Peter Griffin>

Nice post. It is fine to think of Roughriders purely in the literal sense as you've mentioned. In fact, I think that's how most voters are viewing it. That is why it only received 27 or 28% in the last round; there's nothing extra special about it to your average voter. Theres nothing exciting about an old western guy on a horse. At least not in the eyes of the younger crowd; they most likely view it as old fashioned and not at all reflective of who they are. That's the problem with a person-based nickname; if people don't relate to it they won't vote for it.
-
so..... You're saying the fighting Sioux history will be lost on students in five years, yet, you expect them to vote for a name of an out of state cavalry from 120 years ago? I see a slight problem with that logic....
-
How in the world would you set that up for a one-time vote? You're going to research the worthiness of 82,000 people, and then grant them varying voting power based a list of criteria generated by? Who decides how many extra votes for those meeting certain criteria? Does Kim Jong Un get a say in this? holy crap batman. My choice isn't on the final ballot. The writing is on the wall. I do feel fortunate my second choice of the three is going to win. But regardless, I would accept the voting process and results. We cannot blame the students who have 20% of the voting power for what the final result will be. let it go......Fighting Hawks will be the new name in a matter of days.... embrace the Hawk......
-
I just told you. and I've explained in innumerable other posts about the nickname.
-
any of these logo ideas are better than to know we are honoring the son of the head veterinarian at the old ag college.
-
no argument here. 27% of voters agree with you. only 26% of voters agreed with me. while nowhere near my list of top names when this whole thing started, I like fighting hawks better than roughriders.
