  1. Grand Forks and Fargo keep upping the ante by going with a Minnesota bantam league. Maybe West Fargo Sheyenne can keep up but the Bismarck schools are too far. Going forward, Central, Red River, Davies and Sheyenne could withdraw and form their own league, and Wahpeton, MayPort, Watford City can join a depleted ND hockey tournament. The Bismarck schools could own that league then.
  2. So the FBI taped Sean Miller of Arizona pledging $100 k to a recruit. Have to give Jones more money. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/22559284/sean-miller-arizona-christian-dawkins-discussed-payment-ensure-deandre-ayton-signing-according-fbi-investigation Very much doubt this will be sorted out before the Big Dance starts.
  3. Umkc doesn’t sponsor a baseball team and left for the WAC instead of starting one. A baseball team is needed so that means a second school is needed, and they just aren’t many DI baseball playing schools around that would be open to the Summit.
  4. SIU borrowed $30 mill from SIU-E just to keep the doors open. The directionals in Illinois, except SIU-E, are doing poorly. The $26 million deficit athletic funding threatens the entire U. Neighboring U’s in other states are seeing big increases in enrollment from Illinois kids as their tuition for out of state is almost equivalent to the directional Illinois in state tuition. I’ll St, U Ill, IllChicago, and SIUE seem to be the only Illinois U’s that have not had major cutbacks, so parents feel confident that they won’t close before their child graduates.
  5. Next week during Arch Madness, the MVC Presidents will have a periodic meeting. Some Murray State posters on their board say they will be voted in shortly as one of two schools next year. On another MVC board, the rumor is St Louis has been told to prepare for 12 teams next year. Presumably, one of those teams will have exited the Horizon. The Horizon will be forced to add then, and IPFW badly wants out of the Summit and into the Horizon. Losing IPFW, which has men’s soccer and baseball, could unravel the Summit as it wouldn’t have enough schools sponsoring two key sports to retain its auto bid, unless it has a plan. DII teams don’t count for five years, so if the Summit doesn’t invite existing DI schools, it may be SOL. Time is quickly approaching that will tell if Kennedy moved to the Summit as a strategic move, or merely a short sighted cost cutting one.
  6. Some names on the FBI probe of payments to college players have been revealed. Maybe North Carolina will finally get probation. This may effect many top programs, as they all should be probation. https://sports.yahoo.com/exclusive-federal-documents-detail-sweeping-potential-ncaa-violations-involving-high-profile-players-schools-103338484.html
  7. It rarely freezes the ice on canals in the Netherlands. But when it does, every one is out. Ice skating is a national obsession that they don’t get to do outdoors very often.
  8. Let Finland, Germany, Sweden, Norway etc pay for roster spots and a few hundred thousand each, and we might be talking real money.
  9. When those were built, there was clear land all the way to Larimore. Now they look like low income projects that one sees in the South. They just aren’t a good use for much more valuable real estate property.
  10. Always thought 3rd St needed at least one block that imitated Bergen, Norway architecture. https://goo.gl/images/Sxs3BP
  11. When the water plant is demolished, there is no reason that a ten story condo doesn’t go up in its place. Put a new library near there, with external balconies overlooking the Greenway. Think much of 3rd street could see development, as shown by the apartments replacing the old Simonsons Lumber Yard. The St Anne’s area / Gateway should see some high rises too.
  12. One link which can’t find now says next fall it should be completed. Existing pipelines will be used and the NGLs will be mixed with oil incoming and separated. The NGLs mostly come from gas plants by Watford City so there is a lot of up front work already done.
  13. Andeavor Logistics is building a $150 million NGL separation plant in Belfield, which will produce propane, butane and natural gasoline. The story has not been picked up in the North Dakota press yet, but has been picked up by a San Antonio paper, where Andeavor is based. NGL’s will be sent off in rail cars.
  14. Money is a small segment of Kennedy's personal drivers IMHO. Power and increasing responsibility are what drive him. Politics says you go for a bigger job, like running for the Senate when you are already in the House, which he did. UCF would be a much more challenging job with at least four times the potential impact.
  15. Feel strongly that a downtown needs a main library. Fine with library branches in strip malls etc, but GF made a big mistake 4 years ago. Urban renewal tore down blocks of downtown and some of that still hasn't been rebuilt.
  16. Maybe he knows what is coming down the pike better than this board. UCF would be a great job. It is not as if he were applying to an XDSU. In the upper world that Kennedy is in, if you don't move on you are a loser. Kelley never was considered for another job for very good reasons.
  17. Too bad that UND doesn't play these teams twice. Guess that's reserved for Weber, the Montana's, Idaho and EWU.
  18. He makes final decisions and doesnt look back. That is a rare characteristic of U President types.
  19. Grand Forks' problem is that it doesn't have a significant corporate presence. Fargo is the distribution center for the state, has major ag and wind related manufacturing, and had a major corporate breakthrough with Great Plains Software. Bismarck doesn't have much corporate presence either, except MonDak and Basin Electric, but state government has grown much over 40 years. Grand Forks badly needs a homegrown Polaris, Arctic Cat, Marvin Windows, or DigiKey.
  20. Maybe he is preferred walk on for next year without a scholarship and will be redshirting. Next year will have several scholarship openings. But it probably means someone is leaving. Jones seems to use redshirt scholarships on personnel with questional skills. IMHO redshirt scholarships should only be given to players with strong skills but needing more physical maturity.
  21. Since UND moved to DI, am batting .750. Your at what, .000? Stated well before Penn St added hockey that the P1G would add hockey. I was laughed at by self appointed experts like Goon. UND and Denver will run through burning hoops to protect their hockey programs. Got the Great West right. Got the Big Sky whan all the trolls and "experts" said it will never happen and mocked me for years. Never considered that NDSU wouId actually let us in the Summit but the price was two Fargo fb games for admission. Presidents get an orgasm if they get like schools together and The Great Northern remake of the Summit is coming. Idaho wants FBS badly and they will get a Summit fb league to form once IPFW is gone. The WAC FBS statement were nearly home run but foul.
  22. Your writeup on why you would advise Arizona State not be invited to the NCHC is appropriate for a clueless Hall of Fame, or rather infamous.
  23. Didn't realize Tylee Irwin of SDSU was Gene Roebuck's niece. We really missed out on a special player. Here's the story.http://gojacks.com/news/2018/2/1/womens-basketball-crossing-state-lines.aspx
  24. Some predictions have oil going to $80 / barrel by summer, as almost the entire world economy is growing fast. Harold Hamm addressed students in Leonard Hall last week and told them Continental wanted more UND grads. Kennedy was there at an unveiling and Hamm dropped the first puck at Friday's game against DU. Maybe he'll give more if the stock goes up. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-01/north-dakota-bakken-oil-rises-again-in-the-shadow-of-mighty-permian
  25. By UConn's schedule, they never played in Wichita this year, but she did play iin Peoria. The Midwest crowds, Wichita St drew over 7000 for its NCAA games on its home floor, seem to be enticing for eastern girls that won't get crowds except Penn St.
