ND High School Hockey 2017-18
SiouxVolley replied to OgieOgilthorpe's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Is Legacy HS ever going to fieId a team? Sheyenne did and the oId West Fargo program was not nearly as strong. Understand that Bismarck needs more ice, but 1/3 rd of Century and Bismarck HS should be Legacy. -
Crandall and Stewart are phenomenal at this level. But we need more muscle inside besides Avant. Next year Jal is aboard, but Jones doesnt seem to emphasize forward or center play.
-
NdSU shot 59% from the field and that includes 3's. UND needs more depath on the inside. Can't expact Avant's to do everything.

There is an awful lot of nostalgic fans, including here, that want a Whalers team back. It won't happen unless some billionaire also is nostalgic. Hartford is losing people and is almost bankrupt, so an owner would have to build an arena and pay for the team all out of his own pocket. Hartford now has a UConn hockey team so the market has changed. The NHL wants Houston and Seattle as those are huge markets which would help TV ratings. A market like Atlanta, with a new arena in suburban Cobb or Gwinnett counties, would be much preferred to Hartford or even a second Toronto team.

Here is an article on how Coastal Carolina will qualify for FBS by meeting the 15k attendance mark. Coastal didn't even have a 10k stadium when it was FCS. This season they had a 15.4k stadium with expansion. They plan to further expand it to 20k. http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/sports/college/sun-belt/coastal-carolina-university/article186539223.html

NCAA volleyball isn't the spectacle of the Big Dance. Not even close. Winning in post-season can build a program more than an annual beat down by the Gophers.
-
USC swept the Gophers in the round of 16.
-
Peter Karmanos Jr has signed a Letter of intent to sell the Carolina Hurricanes to a former Texas Rangers owner for $500 mill and keeping them in Raleigh. This removes talk of that franchise moving from Raleigh at least for seven years as the rink has a contract that long. Hartford and Quebec City need expansion teams or must wait on the Panthers, which are tied to a rink contract in Sunrise, Fl, for five years.
-
More unease in the MVC. Some of their mbb coaches are insisting on having 20 conferences games. That means MVC expansion. The MVC has inserted a clause in the Arch Madness arena contract that a four game first day must be hosted, which would make 12 teams. Murray St is likely and someone else like Milwaukee, UIC or ORU. The Horizon seems set to go to 12 too with IPFW and Robert Morris. If Milwaukee or UIC are grabbed, they would have to add someone else like SIUE or Lipcomb. WIU could go to the OVC when the fear of the Summit moving West becomes great.
-
Some surprises so far: The Big Sky is ranked as the 15th strongest conference The Summit League is 14th The Horizon League is plain awful, falling to 30th best, but still ahead of the MEAC and SWAC Weber lost by 27 to UVU after we took them to OT Portland St leads the BSC in RPI and they have beaten Stanford

Waiting for Dale Jones to have a breakout game. He isn't the inside player so far that we could use and his 3 pt % has been weak.
-
$650 mil for an expansion team is pricey. Houston and QC must be waiting for a relocation, as the NHL has said only Seattle's app will be accepted.
-
Is Jones against playing games in the Ralph or is it because changing the Ralph to a basketball setup doesn't generate enough revenue to compensate for that cost? Maybe Faisson put the kabobs on it.

The Suites are a major upgrade especially for corporate accounts.

Stony Brook has an avowed goal to be FBS, making hockey a back burner item. Stony Brook should have a DI hockey team, but that is probably way off in the future as preparations for FBS are expensive like an enlarged stadium. Can't find how much LIU Post has for an endowment, although it was started by the Post cereal owner.
-
There is a report that LIU Post will be adding a DII women's hockey program. A DII program doesn't make much sense unless it is for Title IX to match a men's scholarship program. Long Island or NYC doesn't have a DI program for either men or women. LIU Post (formerly known as C W Post) is DII, but it has a club program for men that could move up and they are advertizing for a coach of a women's program, which will be added. The AHA needs another school. Nassau County Coliseum has been massively downsized in seating from its Islander days, so that may be a hosting venue. The men's club team plays at Parkwood arena now in Great Neck, NY.

At Bozoville, Tony posted his list of grievances that he has against people and events that harmed his football team. What a totally ungracious and unthankful fan base, even after five FCS championships. Listing grievances instead of reasons for thankfulness. That collection of derelict fans south of us has got to be the most pagan and self serving collection of fans anywhere west of the the child sodomist approving Penn St gang and north of Tuscaloosa serial cheaters.

The earliest the Key Arena renovation can be done and accomodate an NHL team is `20-'21. The TV Producer Jarry Bruckheimer wants a Seattle NHL team as does Wall Street mogul, David Bonderman. The NHL is talking $700 million now for an expansion team as they got $500 mil for Vegas. The Seattle city council may have kissed goodbye to the NBA. A new Seattle NBA team likely can't own the remodeled arena, so much of the value of an NBA franchise is gained by owning the arena too as an arena and franchise owner need not share in the high price suites and seats, If the NBA expands, it might get $2 Billion for another seat at the table.

So footballscoop says the Kent St job has been offered to Bob Nielson of USD. Kent Nielsen is the AD at Kent St, who was at USD through its transition. Nelson won't have Strevelor any more, so they could go way down in performance.
-
Facilities must surpass too. The HPC started it, but phase II is needed and a new stadium will to it off.
-
Minnesota in VB is like Alabama in FB. Going there is almost impossible to win. Going to Lincoln would be just as rough. UND needs to be at least a three seed in their regionals in order to win one match. Recruits follow this much more than the general population. Minneapolis doesn't mean much to recruits, but winning does.
-
http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/hockey/inside-sports-business-nhls-interest-in-houston-doesnt-mean-seattle-quest-for-a-team-is-on-thin-ice/ As stated before, think the NHL wants teams in Houston, Seattle and Quebec City, but the timing has to be right.
-
The fans can get to see postseason games in the NIVC. Just like the NIT. That can spawn more attendance down the road, and gaining better recruits. That's all I saying. I'm sure the team would not trade their BSC championship for it.
-
Two teams we've beaten, Ole Miss and Green Bay, have made it to the round of eight in the NIVC. Meanwhile, only P5 teams plus BYU continue on in the NCAA. This despite Creighton and Wichita St hosting. The P5 gets almost all the vb talent so even some P5 schools hardly try. Dooley, Griffin, Merseli and Julia K and Tepavac can't be replaced by mere freshman at our level. Denver is losing seniors too but haven't researched it that much. The NIVC would be more of a program builder as we could host several matches.

Minny advance to Gainesville and Florida with a 3-1 victory over UNI.
