  1. Think both those schools could have strong programs. Green Bey, Milwaukee, Toledo, Syracuse and Buffalo are near no brainers too, but AD’s value mbb so much.
  2. Only included those names because those co-ops supply players. Maybe Norman County West ( Halstad-Hendrum-Perley ) co-op with Hillsboro-Central Valley and they can be a Minnesota Class A team and a few more letters get added.
  3. Looks like Mayvllie-Portland-Clifford-Galesburg-Hillsboro-Central Valley-Hatton-Northwood-Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page will get a berth in next years EDC hockey region tournament. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/hockey/4428702-may-port-ice-dawgs-expected-get-region-tourney-opportunity
  4. This is so incredibly anal and myopic that can’t believe there is someone gullible enough to post it. The correct response by an Augie administrator even if they are serious is to deny. The Augie President, a former Congresswoman, didn’t even deny DI is not in the cards. She simply said Augie has not talked to the Summit, but boosters have. There are several videos out by Morton and the President answering questions about DI. If there is a booster offering a school $100 million to go DI, that changes a lot. If Sanford does get Augie votes in the Summit, would suspect that he would start pulling money from the three schools. SDSU would lose out on their arena remodel, USD would lose out on their Dome remodel, and NDSU would not get any Sanford help with an IPF. UND could get the HPC finished without naming rights if they play their cards right.
  5. The Northern Sun would take NDSU. Maybe the WAC. That’s about it. The MVC wouldn’t take such a deadbeat basketball school.
  6. NDSU has no choice but to be nice to UND now. UND and the Montana’s and Idaho are its entry card into an FBS conference.
  7. New Augie AD Josh Morton talks about how a DI conversation is needed on campus. http://www.kdlt.com/2018/04/06/augustana-introduces-new-athletic-director-josh-morton/ Believe Sanford may have already called in his cards at NDSU, SDSU, and USD, where he gave them major gifts. If they don’t vote Augie into the Summit, those schools won’t get any more gifts from Sanford. Can hear the nuts cracking right now. Sanford wants to take Sioux Falls to the next level. He has already made it a major credit card city, has a major arena named after him, has lots of hospitals named after him and his next project is make Augie DI so Sioux Falls has a major college sports team.
  8. Doug Burgum’s example of Arizona State’s massive enrollment via online is noticeable. ASU has decreased its % of revenue from the state down to 9%, which Burgum seems to want ND U’s to do too. UND is much more able to add more online students than say NDSU as those online courses already exist at UND. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4428436-doug-burgum-touts-outside-funding-model-north-dakota-universities Well one of the cheapest ways to advertise is by going FBS. Just saying.
  9. So if Kennedy announces a Big facility gift, the faculty will be outraged because they didn't get squat. IMHO, that's what's going on
  10. Laughable fake news: http://thespun.com/mountain-west/mountain-west-expansion-gonzaga-byu So this author adds two more schools that the MWC should add: Western Kentucky and NDSU. Kids seem so clueless these days.
  11. No. They have stated a desire to get in the WCC ever since they moved back up. Pacific and BYU go in over them. And they have a play at their tiny campus gym until Key Arena is made over so getting out is unlikely for several year. The Summit is considered a black hole to most schools because it doesn’t have potential students, athletes, or current alumna. It defeats the purpose of being DI and a big reason UMKC and Oakland and IUPUI left. No self respecting school would want to be part of it unless that is also true of it (the Montana’s, N Idaho, Wyoming if it had another school further north).
  12. Any new Summit school can not be a DII move up as that would be an enormous risk, as they take at least five years. Have to an existing DI school(s): UMKC, UNC, Chicago St, E Illinois, Drake, UNI, Loyola-Chicago, UWGB, NMSU, UVU etc. And most of those have zero chance of moving down or up. Unless the Summit goes west: Montana, Mt St, Weber St, Idaho and makes fb a sport. And Mbb scheduling is going to be even worse, as most conferences will require 20 conference games. The WCC is one of the few that will go to 16 because of Gonzaga’s demands. Maybe a interlocking schedule with the dregs of the WCC?
  13. More on Gonzaga: https://www.slipperstillfits.com/2018/4/3/17191194/gonzaga-mountain-west-conference-expansion-west-coast-conference-mike-roth
  14. So Gonzaga made it official, as they are staying in the WCC for next year. http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/apr/02/gonzaga-athletic-director-mike-roth-says-zags-stay/#/0 That $7 million that the Zags earned from their Final Four run seems to be a big driver for them to stay. It runs out in four more years, so they need another run near the end of that.
  15. Loyola has brought $8.5 million into the MVC’s coffers, and to think most MVC fans have been b*tching up a storm about adding that mbb school with no support. http://awfulannouncing.com/ncaa/loyolas-final-four-run-means-years-of-increased-revenue-for-missouri-valley-conference-members.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  16. I’d favor giving Kindles out with a large kindle book option availability. That might be cheaper than a library. But again, the internet only offers like 1% of books and periodicals for free, so something has to be done with access. My extended family share books via a Amazon account. Not a GF taxpayer, but I still go a couple times a year to my current city’s library, which is located in a downtown.
  17. Guess Sanford is going to found the Sisters of Sanford as the Sisters of Providence founded the U of Great Falls and St Joseph’s Hospital which both have Providence as part of their name now.
  18. So we have to compare GF library needs with Mayville, Larimore and Cooperstown? May just 4 or 5 in the state are comparable. Perhaps I was too bookish, but knew a lot of kids that would check out four books a week from the library. That simply isn’t possible to do now without a library. Not many families have the means to buy Kindles with that type of reading material weekly. This is more about having eager young readers than measly taxpayers. That’s why Andrew Carnegie stepped up and built libraries all over America.
  19. Three years ago if it was to happen. A Minnie school now has the same problem as Augie: don’t see any of the Dakota wanting a “home” team taking Minnesota recruits. A move up now does nothing for the Summit for five years. If St Thomas was interested, that would have been different, but they aren’t and would take 8 years even to be able as their DIII right now.
  20. Don’t see USD and SDSU propping up a DI Augustana in Sioux Falls. The DI transition will take 5 years, so the Summit would not have a official new team for five years. With Sioux Falls having great hockey attendance for their USHL team (blows out USD and SDSU mbb attendance) Sanford should offer a hockey endowment for Augustana. The WCHA would take them, and the NCHC is possible after a few years. But mbb appears to be what Sanford wants. Probably would rename the Augie as Sanford - similar to Stanford and Samford but actually unique.
  21. Gonzaga was under the impression that they were still negotiating with the MWC. Apparently, MWC Commish tired of their demands. But a deal could still be possible for next year. http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/mar/31/mountain-west-commissioner-craig-thompson-says-gon/
  22. Looks like Gonzaga is staying with the WCC for at least next season. The WCC gave them a bunch of concessions. No dust to settle for lower conferences now. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/sd-sp-gonzaga-mountain-west-wcc-20180331-story.html
  23. Their are now more girls lacrosse players in MN than girls hockey players. Yet MN has 5 DI WIH teams vs 0 DI lax teams. Womens lax should be the next program UND starts, if it needs to start one. So much cheaper and can actually help enrollment much more than WIH. It’s actually growing around the world. https://www.mnlaxhub.com/news_article/show/815030-girls-lacrosse-continues-its-accelerated-growth-across-minnesota
  24. An interesting article on Illinois’s hockey arena, possible program: http://www.smilepolitely.com/opinion/is_division_i_hockey_and_its_multiuse_facility_what_we_need/?platform=hootsuite
  25. Looks like Gonzaga is going to the MWC, even though the WCC gave major concessions on basketball. Some details like around where Gonzaga will play men’s soccer are being ironed out. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/aztecs/sd-sp-gonzaga-mountain-west-wcc-20180326-story.html
