  1. Isn’t it a $35 mill renovation of their old Quonset hut? But bisonville still complains about not having enough room for their stomachs, and not nearly enough leg space.
  2. Sioux Falls is better at giving free office space. The Ramkota Inn may still have the old NCC office space empty. But in all fairness, Midco has its corporate HQ in Sioux Falls. And they have a top notch B.B. arena that makes it easy for the Summit to man the tournament.
  3. Seven are the minimum needed if the conference has football. Conference want more than that for having enough conference games and to give a margin of safety if one leaves. Seven are still needed without football, but two more male team sports need to be sponsored with at least six each. UND and others would have to add baseball and men’s soccer to keep the Summit League autobid. WIU, IPFW, ORU, and Omaha are the key players, as they have both sports. That is back*ss stupid, as those four schools are the least valuable. The Dakotas and Denver are fb and hockey centered schools - which is where most of their revenue comes in. Hockey could be used, but NDSU, SDSU, and USD would all have to add it and UND, Omaha and Denver would have to drop out of the NCHC. That is not happening to say the least. It also would not work to incorporate the MVFC under the Summit umbrella. UNI and Mo St must be added as core members and that is not happening either.
  4. Only a good sign if the Summit League is abandoning everything East of the Mississippi. IPFW and Western Illinois should be getting jumpy. But the Summit needs the Montana’s, Idaho and Weber St desperately. There is no one else to continue to meet the autobid criteria. Other schools don’t want in a Dakota-based league unless they are also in a remote region to population centers. Not talking Black Hill St or MSU-Billing, but flagships. Have to get the Midwest label off the Summit and make it a Plains label.
  5. The Bronson acreage, where the REA stands, was originally gifted as a spot where intramural fields could be located. The REA was built there just to piss off the Bronson’s.
  6. Ten acres south of the Alerus sold for over $3 million. $8 million is a pittance for 70 acres for prime urban commercial development. The Herald is speculating, not reporting. A new stadium on half that land would cause any outparcels to skyrocket in price. https://www.prairiebusinessmagazine.com/business/3968883-alerus-center-makes-3-million-land-purchase
  7. The situation at the Illinois directionals is getting more serious, if that is possible. Western Illinois has a projected freshman enrollment of 815, which will be down more than 30%. Budget cuts could be massive and further tuition costs rising even more. The Summit could have another Chicago St on its hands. There is talk that WIU will drop to DII to cut costs. Under the current Summit League sports system, WIU has both baseball and men’s soccer, which are critical to keep tSL’s autobid. The Summit League needs new schools, preferably that play football. https://capitolfax.com/2018/05/22/wiu-looking-at-drastic-enrollment-declines-deficit-spending-increases/ Illinois residents are sending their kids out of state for college education, as out-of-state tuition is often cheaper than instate Illinois tuition. Iowa St and others has seen a massive rise in Illinois residents that are students. http://www.mcdonoughvoice.com/news/20180522/declining-enrollment-deficit-prompt-concerns-about-reserves
  8. http://www.thesummitleague.org/general/2017-18/releases/20180522mvqj3e One item I don’t like from tSL relocation release is Kelby Krabbenhoft is prominently mentioned. As a former Augie athlete and now booster, he has major influence. Augie has until June 1st to get a Summit bid.
  9. The Kennedy-McGarry ruckus got the attention of the AP and ABC News now. https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/dispute-highlights-north-dakotas-tough-sell-nickname-55393733
  10. Any Bowling Green President won’t like tying themselves in with DII schools. That lowers the legitimacy of their program and demeans it academically. Think like a President, not a coach wanting closer games.
  11. Not expansion per se, but Bergeron at Bowling Green wants to pull out of the WCHA. Two years notice is needed. http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=35222 If Oakland hits the ice, a new CCHA can be formed with Atlantic Hockey teams near Lake Erie.
  12. The NBA owner should own the arena also to make more profits or at least have first rights. The Scottrade arena in SL would need a major renovation job before an NBA team. http://www.stltoday.com/sports/nba-in-st-louis/article_44f62e9b-abb5-5f56-89f9-f7b9a7bf5d05.html KC doesn’t have as much corporate support there is in SL, but it has the Sprint Center, which is ready right now and is highly thought of. Don’t think KC could handle four big league teams, like MSP. It’s either NBA or NHL and more potential owners are lined up for the NBA. SL doesn’t have the NFL now, so it has more potential demand for tickets and.interest, but it probably needs a new arena. SL couldn’t get an MLS team due to stadium squabbles, and SL is nearly the most natural soccer city. KC has MLS, but SL can’t seem to get one. SL city is not very big, as the suburbs are 90% of the population, and that poses a problem for stadium building. The state of Missouri isn’t going to fork over money like Minnie has done. Dont think the NBA wants a Las Vegas team as it is too small especially when the Raiders move in.
  13. UND plays California Baptist U in the initial WAC-Summit Challenge. https://happeninghoops.com/2018/05/18/summit-league-wac-challenge/
  14. Fb was included in the REA’s take to help pay for the Betty bonds, IMHO, to make that work. Now if UND is being gifted a new fb stadium at Ray Richards, Kennedy would be negligent not to demand less fb take by the REA. But I’m just an idiot according to posters here.
  15. Kansas City may get an NBA team to go with Seattle. Have to balance the conferences. https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-executive-kansas-city-will-get-nba-team-point-233932993.html That probably takes them out of any NHL discussion.
  16. If the HPC2 includes a double facility for CVIC, McGarry would be more likely to support it. That Foundation has given money to the CVIC in Grand Forks more recently than UND.
  17. UND just signed two setters. Not expecting that. The Finnish gal was talked about, but thought she would be a hitter or blocker. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=211716019
  18. The SBoHE hired Kelly to kill the nickname. Two tribal signatures were required by the NCAA, because that was impossible to get with His Horse is Thunder as tribal chief. Kelly never set a foot on Standing Rock and probably called their leadership just to show solidarity. When Kelly retired, Standing Rock leadership found it in their hearts to bestow honors on him, which dishonored their grand parents who had a peace pice ceremony with UND leadership over the name. A peace pipe ceremony represents eternity.
  19. There is an effort ongoing to expand the NCAA tournament to 72 teams, from 68 with a western site like Salt Lake City or Albuquerque. A First Four in Dayton and a First Four out west. This would likely increase the number of mid-major at-large teams. The ACC has endorsed and sponsored it so it may pass. https://collegebasketball.ap.org/article/acc-seeks-expand-ncaa-tourney-4-teams-change-rules Also, proposals to move back the three-pt line, widen the lane, and reset the possision clock to only 20 sec after an offensive rebound. https://www.nunesmagician.com/2018/5/17/17365546/acc-expand-ncaa-tournament-72-teams-first-four-college-basketball-expansion
  20. So tweets from NMSU sources say there will be upcoming basketball games between the WAC and Summit as part of a WAC-Summit Challenge. NDSU apparently gets NMSU as part of that challenge, which will be for several years.
  21. The tax returns don’t show that the REA Foundation is getting a charitable donation from the REA arena. One has to accuse all those boards of tax evasion or charitable fraud for that to be happening. An agreement between McGarry and Kennedy should be easy. No Fighting Hawk logo on the REA ice for the remaineder of the contract with a stipulation that the Betty court will be changed to include a Fighting Hawk. Also reduce the REA’s share of football ticket money to just the handling fee.
  22. The Liberty move to the A Sun is official. http://asunsports.org/general/2017-18/releases/20180516hf2r4k A Liberty board says more moves to the A Sun are in the offing.

What was the other top objective?
  24. Liberty is moving to the Atlantic Sun. http://www.aseaofred.com/liberty-to-make-major-conference-affiliation-announcement/ Followed by James Madison, Delaware, Stony Brook and Jacksonville St and maybe Youngstown St, UNH, Chattanooga. The A Sun already has Kennesaw St and UNF and FGCU would want FBS someday. By July 1st this will all get sorted out, as will the Summit and WAC.
  25. Denver U has a logo, but their few fans hate it. The Boone mascot was changed by DU admin as its too male, white and non inclusive, so they changed it to a bird.
