Have to keep our local curmudgeon happy with his seemingly endless stream of negative thoughts.

Cal State Bakersfield is starting an ACHA Div 2 team. Bakersfield has an AHL team that has an average attendance of over 5000. The club team will play in the same arena as the AHL team, Rabobank Arena. http://www.bakersfield.com/sports/new-csub-club-ice-hockey-team-a-natural-progression/article_48763958-8635-11e8-9201-23338f3fbde7.html Bakersfield could be an outside shot of starting college hockey, especially if they get to play PAC12 teams. Bake doesn’t have football, so it is one of those schools outside of the P5 where it is more financially feasible, especially with a useable and available rink.

You’ve talked to Kennedy so you know you got your facts right?

Schottenstein is a mighty vacant arena with tons of personality during Ohio St games. Columbus fans can’t get enough.

Looks like the Louisville hockey group was trying to get a meeting with U of Louisville for six months. Their old AD Jurich and others had bigger, even criminal cases, to be concerned with. The Iceland arena complex, where is current club team plays, has had serious money problems due to an embezzlement case. http://www.wave3.com/story/37527462/goal-oriented-uofl-ice-hockey-aims-to-reach-division-i-status

Academically and from a research standpoint, adding the Montanas and Idaho would be huge, and would be the best conference that a President could dream of. But been told many time repeatedly by the bisonville bozos that is not possible.

The only DII schools that could possibly move to the Summit is Concordia-St Paul, but they have less than a $50 million endowment and weren’t welcomed academically by the exclusive snobs of the MIAC. Having lax and hockey and dropping football would make them a much higher profile school, but it won’t be happening. Saint Thomas has had many chance to upgrade, but refused because they were part of the MIAC snobs. They could have been the Marquette of the Twin Cities. The Summit doesn’t have enough pizazz to satisfy them anyway. Too many Dakota hicks and rednecks.
-
Why do the ding-dongs at bozoville keep touting St Thomas as the Summit League’s savior? Apparently, they don’t read NCAA regs that now limit DI moveups come from only DII schools. A DIII school would require 13 years to move up to DI. Cal Baptist was an NAIA school, then stayed in DII for eight years and was a power, and only now can transition to DI and the WAC.

Here’s a story that says the Croatia trip to the World Cup Final is the greatest fairy tale in World Cup history. https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2018/07/croatia-england-world-cup/564992/

As discussed before, wouldn’t be surprised if the Summit eventually schedules like CUSA and the Sun Belt this coming year. The Horizon and MVC are talking about it too, but for later. https://deadspin.com/a-college-basketball-insider-is-uniting-mid-majors-to-b-1826990796

On a NHL board, someone said there was a group that badly wanted an NHL team in Louisville. College hockey would be much less expensive, even if they have to build an arena. YUM Arena is way too big for college hockey.

France was embarrassed for so many years before they won their first World Cup. Decades ago to remedy that, they sunk a lot of dollars into an academy system that produced 50 World Cup players this year, their own plus it was responsible for much of Tunisia’s, Morocco’s and Senegal’s teams and many from a number of nations before. France might be the world leader for incubating soccer talent. Brazil second in World Cup player production, way behind France. https://www.vox.com/videos/2018/7/10/17548670/france-world-cup-mbappe-immigration Most odds give France a 60% chance. Still like Croatia. Funny how England was so dominating to begin with, but Croatia had an extra gear and England just ran out of gas. Sunday is the final and that should give Croatia time to recover.

Cal Poly is a STEM school, which the favored minority classes like Hispanics and blacks tend to avoid. But Asian-Americans seem to revel in hard sciences and math because that’s what their parents know will yield a great career. The Ivy League and other highly selective schools don’t want more Asians so they have methods to keep them out. Asians are just too high achieving for the social justice types so they are ignored because it shatters their stereotypes that minorities are all so discriminated against. By grades and academic success, Cal Poly should be vast majority Asian, but that doesn’t jive with the leftists, who want equality of outcomes regardless of input. Kids are not raised in a vacuum as social justice warriors want to believe. Asians have immense parental involvement in their education, which is rare for Hispanics, blacks and many whites. Parental involvement, encouragement and discipline makes a difference, and those factors are unknown today.

Sort of hope Croatia wins against England tomorrow. They have arguably the best midfielders in the world, but from a country of only a little more than 4 million. Many of their players experienced the Yugoslav civil war growing up. The Real Madrid star, Luka Modric was a child refugee after his grandfather, who boarded him while his parents worked elsewhere, was viciously shot and killed. https://www.thesun.co.uk/world-cup-2018/6730206/luka-modric-croatia-granddad-shot-dead-refugee/ Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic’s family escaped to Switzerland to avoid the violence. https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/ivan-rakitic-barcelona-and-croatia-world-cup-star-made-in-bundesliga-507414.jsp Croatia has some crooked club teams, like Dinamo Zagreb, which has caused the country a ton of grief, but that doesn’t take away what these players have overcome. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/croatia-football-team-inspired-nations-12885673

I like it but nothing can be permanent. The Betty is designed for four courts east to west. Higher bleachers would have to be unless the entire thing was retractable. Could knock out the north wall and expand somehow. Have more suites or bars. The

Bozoville has its share of absolute idiotics, but the USD board actually one upped them. http://usdcoyotesports.proboards.com/thread/2163/summit-league-expansion?page=8 A poster there says UND can’t hang with the MVFC, so we should get a bunch of Northern Sun schools and Indiana St to form a non-scholarship league.

The Brainerd area has a Costco, so this rumor might have legs.

SWAC teams are notoriously bad as their budgets are rock bottom. They had glory days when the SEC wouldn't take black athletes. The SWAC has been fading for 50 years. Their bands are worth the price of admission though.

UND Athletics, Hornbacher's introduce new relationship
SiouxVolley replied to nodak651's topic in Community
There are UND fans in West Fargo and Fargo too. Hornbachers is building a new store in West Fargo. -
Costco would be the biggest retail addition ever. The Sears store will be vacant soon too. It would take more than an hour to deliver from Fargo.

https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/sports/lsu/article_4c91b0a2-71a5-11e8-98fe-6ffc7050fbc3.html This article says that the CFP payout would go increase by $2.8 billion if the playoff is expanded from four to eight teams. High level FCS schools should be welcoming the change and move up to FBS as FCS is a money pit. The FBS payouts will go up even if your in a low level FBS league.
