There some unique men’s basketball conference scheduling going on now to increase mid major chances of an at large dance bid. The Sun Belt and CUSA will play about 80% of their conference schedule normally, but the last two weeks will have games again with teams that are in their W-L region. For example, the top three of the Belt will each have a two game series against each other so their RPI goes up by not playing the conference dregs. It is an interesting way for the upper teams to get better RPIs to qualify. Theoretically, the 3rd place team could get as many as four games against the 1st and 2nd place teams and still meet in the tournament. Such a system maximizes conference games but minimizes the top teams playing the bottom ones. But these games will have to be scheduled late in the season. The WCC reduces conference play to minimize Gonzaga’s conference games against weak opponents and hurting their RPI.. https://www.midmajormadness.com/2018/6/4/17426820/sun-belt-conference-mens-basketball-schedule-model-tournament-cusa-change

The lack of a female HC with the women’s golf coach stepping down makes UND an embarrassment to the PC world. Only Arkansas-Pine Bluff has the same issue. In most women’s sports, female coaches predominate. Why is UND an exception? https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4455261-new-ad-chaves-aware-unds-lack-female-coaches

Found the TED talk fascinating. There are five moral foundations, and liberals only mostly recognize two of them. Conservatives mostly recognize all five. Been accused of being stupid by many liberals when clearly they don’t know what their talking about. Jonathon Haidt says the liberals need to expand their Horizon.

There are issues at EWU regarding volleyball and an illegal payment for a freshman player for summer workouts. The head coach and an assistant have been fired. EWU Vb is coming to the Betty in August. Supposedly, under Chaves, that program went haywire. A former coach blames Chaves, but he might just want to get back at him. http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2018/jun/02/investigation-of-eastern-washington-volleyball-unc/

Guess the gobc descended from the KKK of Grand Forks in the 1920’s which were virulently anti Catholic. Mainly Masonic and Shriners as those “organizations” are still so secretive.

Augustana plays for the DII baseball championship tomorrow. They have mowed down the field in both regionals and finals without a loss. Some SDSU fans insist that Augie will get a Summit League invite now, as they won a DII championship in basketball too (can’t remember if it was men’s or women’s ). All this is a bunch of message board malarkey. It’s already too late for a DII to DI invite now. https://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/baseball/d2

Kennedy vs. Engelstad Foundation: GF herald feature

A political party can count on Jacobs to spout what they want. Everything is political to some people, including some posters here. Everything is spiritual to me, as the Supreme leader is on high. -
Forgot that Horner got a DII HC job too. Jones will probably call another Iowa connection.

So Craig Heatherly got a promotion replacing Davidson as assistant coach. Now Jones needs to find another basketball operations person.

Where is The Summit League on the floor? Thought that was supposed to be such a big thing. Many if not all the Summit schools have it. -
WIU is entering into Chicago St range five when it was comparatively healthier. The WIU President has been interviewing for lesser positions elsewhere because he knows it’s a sinking ship. WIU Fb may want the MVFC, but WIU can’t afford to be flying to Summit games when the whole league has been shifting West. Back ten years ago, Douple said the Summit wouldn’t consider Denver when they were given an ultimatum to leave by the Sun Belt. Things change, and WIU has certainly gone downhill and WIU has a pittance of an endowment to tide them over. The OVC is the bus league they need. IPFW (soon PUFW) is in an entirely healthier situation- FW is building a new downtown arena and they want to showcase it in the Horizon. The Missouri schools have benefitted from the mess that Illinois higher education is at the directionals. Mo out state tuition is similar to Illinois in state tuition. UMKC is a much different and healthier situation than at Illinois directionals.

IPFW has been flirting with the Horizon for years and wants out of the Summit like Oakland, Valparaiso, and IUPUI and almost all other Horizon teams before them. It’s extremely naive like most SDSU fans seem to think that IPFW is happy now. WIU is experiencing major budget and enrollment issues. Douple made the stability perception issue even worse by moving the HQ to Sioux Falls.

Incarnate Word and Houston Baptist men’s soccer could be poached from the WAC. The Sun Belt is probably trying to get them too. But they probably would loathe to affiliate with the Summit having WIU and IPFW in it, because their issues with the Summit are well known to AD’s or would be just with phone calls. At least one of the sports need to have a full contingent of six teams from the conference. The other one can have four teams plus two affiliates. Some leagues have more affiliates, but they already meet the autobid need with other sports. The NCAA has issued a ruling on this issue and is rather involved. The Summit will face this if any of IPFW, WIU, Omaha or ORU leave. Wrestling doesn’t qualify as a team sport, but the EWL has four DII Pennsylvania schools that play up in that sport and associate with three other schools that are members of a non-wrestling sponsored conferences.

The entire Sears enterprise will go broke soon, so the closure of the Grand Forks store is no surprise. Amazon is actually opening self checkout stores throughout much of the US. There just have stockers and a security person. They have converted some Whole Food Markets to that too, but still with deli and lunch personnel. http://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-books-seattle-bookstore-review-2016-8#if-you-want-a-book-you-have-to-check-amazon-for-the-most-current-price-if-its-cheaper-on-the-website-its-cheaper-in-the-store-and-if-something-is-on-sale-on-the-website-its-on-sale-in-the-store-too-neat-3 The real estate market isn’t so pricey now. Before they were wondering where big stores would go in GF. Divide the space in SEARS into small sections and have many specialty stores and services fill it, like a mall extension. Home of Econmy should consider the Sears spot, as their current location doesn’t have much drive by traffic.

So the P5 matches are: Texas Tech TCU Clemson Pitt The “high” G5 are: Rice USF Charlotte UAB La Tech Green Bay always provides good competition. The Thursday night games have been historically bad draws. Sunday afternoons will normally be a hit with the high schools gals, as they can’t make most weekday matches. The Saturday morning games were at a bad time, but especially when football had a game. Think avoiding Saturday morning and Thursday matches mean higher attendance.

Don’t think DII or DIII teams count for affiliate members unless DII doesn’t sponsor the sport.. Dallas Baptist baseball is in the MVC, but that league can’t count a DII as an official member for their autobid. Dallas Baptist is a power baseball team in the MVC and increasing recruiting in Texas, but it’s DI status in that sport only doesn’t count for much. Hartwick dropped men’s soccer even though it messed with the Sun Belt because the NCAA doesn’t recognize DII teams playing up a level for conference purposes anymore. Dallas Baptist is the nearly the only DII baseball team playing at a DI level when their used to be many like Hawaii-Hilo, NYIT, LeMoyne and others. The same rules apply differently to hockey, which DII doesn’t sponsor it. Unaffiliated DI baseball and men’s soccer teams are not existent in the Midwest. Have to pry one away from the MVC or Horizon, which won’t happen because the conferences are at the minimum too. The cheapest way is to force USD and UND to start either baseball or men’s soccer and that won’t happen. It’s either sponsor football or bust. Double if he has a functioning brain should know that, but he won’t admit it publically. Moving the MVFC to under the Summit roof too doesn’t do any good, because the autobid rules require at least six FCS members that are full conference members.

Jacobs and the Herald latch on to McGarry’s story as a way to drive Kennedy out of office. Same old political song and dance never change for Jacobs, the time he doesn’t have to worry about flunking out of school. -
The XDSU’s aren’t going anywhere. The MVC throws up when they are brought up and with Loyola’s success this year, they are only considering major upgrades like St Louis or Dayton. Murray St is even an upgrade because they bring fans to St Louis and often make the dance. The XDSU’s don’t have enough fans watching on tv to be worth anything. But the Summit doesn’t need more NCC2.0 schools, but more flagships like the Montanas and Idaho. WIU and IPFW are like overgrown Moorhead St’s with no fanbase. ORU is like Augie with a wider spread alumni base.

Wouldn’t appear that Quebec City will get an expansion team, as the Bruins owner says that city is challenged by its small size and lower income. https://realsport101.com/news/sports/nhl/quebec-citys-expansion-hopes-take-a-hit/ Meanwhile, Houston appears to be garnering favor, but the prospective Houston owner is trying to bargain down the price in the press. https://fansided.com/2018/05/16/nhl-expansion-city-houston-new-team-after-seattle/ A Toronto/Southern Ontario location would get the 34th team. The NHL knows where the money is.

James Madison won the DI women’s lacrosse championship today. Guess even FCS schools can win against the big boy or girls.

Division II members take five years before DI would include them as a core Summit member. The SSummit has historically lost a member every year. It needs existing DI members. May 31st is the DII to DI deadline unless they wait another year. Doesn’t look like Augie, or Mankato, SCSU or Duluth will get an invite before that date.
